So what do you guys think? Sell the 3DS back to GameStop, let them fix it, and put the credit toward a new unit (I would feel bad about suggesting this if I had done something to break it, but it's just been sitting in its box); or try sending this one to Nintendo for repairs?
EDIT:
Do you need the touch screen for it?
I have no idea, and I worry at the prospect of starting the game only to discover that I do need it.
And just on the system itself, there are a bunch of menu options that can only be navigated by touch.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

A proper exchange is out since I bought it more than 30 days ago. =/
I got through to Nintendo last night and already arranged a repair. They'll either fix it or send me a new unit. And I've barely played any games for several months, so not having my 3DS for a while isn't going to change my routine.

I don't think you need to use the touch screen. I haven't played much but I don't ever use the touch screen unless I'm forced (and I have yet to be forced).
I'm really behind on what I've been playing, but I guess it hasn't been much.
I was really into The Binding of Isaac Rebirth and Final Fantasy IX on my Vita until a week or two ago. I'd play it at work during my lunch.
I started up Bayonetta for my Wii U, and then I got stuck somewhere, and I haven't touched it again because busy. But it's pretty awesome thus far.
I started Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire. It's nice, but I'm not in as big of a Pokemon mood as I was before it came out. But I'm pretty excited, the stuff I've heard about it sounds awesome and will probably appeal to me more than X/Y did (even if those games were great, I just never got sucked into them).
I unlocked everything in Super Smash Bros: Wii U. I wish there was someone I could really play with though. :/
AND the most important thing, I got Persona Q last night. So that. Probably forever from now on.

Got The Banner Saga for $5 and then proceeded to actually play it. Didn't get very far since I was interrupted and distracted after just the first couple of tutorial battles, but it seems promising so far.

I've been very much enjoying The Banner Saga. The combat is fairly straightforward but requires a good bit of strategy to get through unscathed. There is no perma-death, but fallen allies do take time to recover to full strength. This plays nicely into the "Oregon Trail" gameplay in between battles, similar to injured family members needing time to recover.
There are also dialogue trees that crop up in conversations between characters or during encounters on the road. I've yet to figure just how much your choices impact the game, but so far they have had some effects on my numbers (supplies, morale, and so forth) at the very least. I did come to one point that seemed like it could branch a bit based on my decisions, but then the game switched viewpoints to the other side of the continent, so I don't know yet. xp

I upgraded to PS4, so what's the first thing I pop in?
MLB 14: The Show
So pretty.
Dropping down a well that time forgot
With scars that show that we care a lot
In the sky we dreamt like a juggernaut
Of the things we'd do and what we saught

Lots and lots of Payday 2. I stole over 30 million dollars just yesterday. This game... Despite it's occasional connectivity issues and a rare crash, it's a fantastic game.
We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Tara and I are co-oping on Diablo III. We're playing on Normal because why not..... Massacring everything in sight is entertaining.
I was a little upset that my female character started out basically in underwear while her male character started with a full set of clothes, but at least I'm starting to collect things to wear.

Playing World of Tanks still. I've also begun naming my favorites with the pre-approved names provided in-game to paint on the hull.
So we have "Gorgeous Joe" the M10 Wolverine, a beautiful monstrosity that has worn its name well and annihilated more than its share of tanks. "Wrath of Heaven," the Valentine AT with a howitzer barrel, which is still responsible for much mad cackling as each ludicrously overpowered HE shot one-shots a new target. Then there's "The Princess," the stubborn old Churchill Mk. I that refuses to give up. And finally the latest addition to the tank-killing arsenal, "Damn Yankee," the M18 Hellcat that's short on armor and big on guts. Also speed. Because that thing is like the Ferrari of tank destroyers.
My T40 and AT-2 TDs have yet to earn an appropriate name for themselves, despite performing largely admirably in battle.

I saw that on the 3DS store. It looks awesome but I've never played a game in the series and that $50 price point. How is it so far?
I played the alpha ruby/sapphire demo a bit. It seems too similar to X/Y and I haven't played the original so it's a bit hard for me to get into.

A) You should seek out and play Persona 3/4 if you haven't. They're pretty great RPGs.
B) It's awesome. I'd hold on if the $50 price point is a problem though and you don't have immediate need to play it, as it'll drop eventually (look at Shin Megami Tensei IV).
C) Judging how much you'd like Persona Q is less based on if you like Persona and more if you like Etrian Odyssey. Since it's just Etrian Odyssey with a Persona makeover. It does some things different...but I don't have time to really talk in lengths about Persona Q right now. And if you've never played Etrain Odyssey...it's very similar to classic Shin Megami Tensei and the very first Persona.
D) I think for an Etrain Odyssey game, it's pretty good. I didn't get sucked into EOIV but I am enjoying this game very much. Maybe because it's all Persona-y, but I think that really helps the EO games. One of the reasons I didn't get too much into any of the Etrain Odyssey games is because it kind of lacks character, in my opinion. It's still fun, but none of the games could hold my interest for too long (although I haven't played the Untold games).

I've been playing a few games on my new system recently.
Bravely Default and Pokemon, Omega Ruby as well as Y.
I also bought The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds but haven't played that one much at this point.
