Is that quotation meant to be humerus? Do you wish the game gave you a foramen magnum to fend off the alien so you can pretend tibia space marine?

Or are you just saying you're boned if the alien catches you?

I packed up my PS3/Wii U so all I have for the next few weeks are my Vita and 3DS.

I packed up all my 3DS games except for Super Smash Bros and Bravely Default. All my Vita games fit inside my Vita game container which fits inside my Vita pouch, so I have access to all of them.

And all I am playing is Final Fantasy IX because it is the best.

Final Fantasy IX is most definitely the best.

I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins! The gf got it for me for my birthday (aka "This was $7 at Gamestop and I've heard really good things about it. Here. It's RPG-ish.") I'm playing as a Dwarven noble and I'm really enjoying myself, though it'd be nice if the game loaded new screens a little faster.

I was hoping to get to seduce Morrigan but alas, I cannot.

I've never understood the love affair with Final Fantasy IX. Outside of Final Fantasy XI and XIII, I haven't ever enjoyed a numbered Final Fantasy game as little as I enjoyed IX.

I mean, I tried playing it the other day, I was bored, and the only game I hadn't played 100% on my PS3's hard drive was IX (I didn't feel like downloading something else)

I got about halfway through disk 2 this time, and just couldn't power through.

Glad you're enjoying DA: O! It's such a good game. Are you playing male or female? Males can seduce Morrigan. The only female who swings both ways is Leliana, though. Ah awkward video game romance subplots. Bioware, you are the master of them.

I've never understood the love affair with Final Fantasy IX.

It came after VIII, so it was bound to look good regardless.

I could go on and on about why I like it but I'm lazy. So just bullet points.

Basics:

  • Story is good without being too cliched
  • Cute and humorous.
  • A really good love story between Garnet/Zidane that really grows as the story goes on
  • Garnet is awesome and a really strong female protagonist (at least for most of the game)
  • Every character is unique (which also makes FFVI awesome). Also I actually enjoy them and even if they come off as annoying/lame they eventually grow out of it and change (Except Quina I guess?)
  • Really rewards exploration throughout the game.
  • Lots of minigames (even if not everyone is great)
  • Active Time Events really help build the characters and the world
  • This is really random, and FFVI does this too (also VIII at one point), but I really like that the game forces you to stick with characters and cycles through them. I don't think you get to pick your party until the third disc, and I enjoy it. It kind of balances out the game and forces you to do things differently. Also it's just so much more interesting than having all the characters together (one of my favorite parts of FFVI is the Locke/Sabin/Terra split after the first battle with Ultros on Lethe River)
  • Alien Monkeys
  • Spider transportation
  • Kuja/Garland are my favorite baddies in Final Fantasy besides Kefka
  • Vivi

The game does have issues but it and VI are just my favorites of the Final Fantasy series, because I think they just get it on so many more levels than any of the other games ever did.

Also it's set in a fantasy setting, so, you know, the name makes sense. Cyberpunk stories about whiny babies are terrible.

I don't particularly hate any Final Fantasy, besides maybe XIII, but this always bugged me.

It's not even because it's modern or cyberpunk or anything, it's also because they never really ever stick with the setting. Both FFVII/VIII do this (less so VIII), and it just feels kind of half assed.

I'm playing as a female. I'm aware that I could romance Leliana if I wanted to, but...I don't like her at all. XD She's not very exciting as a character (whereas Alistar and Morrigan are hilarious to listen to when they banter, she doesn't seem to add much to the converastion) and she's been kind of useless in battle, but I haven't swapped her out of my party for some reason. I plan on doing that soon.

Also, man, have I been getting my butt kicked. (I was getting kicked 3x harder until I realized I could change all my party's equipment.)

What class are you playing? If you're a rogue, she's less useful. But man, rogues can deal some amazing damage when you get their dual wielding and backstabbing leveled up.

But outside of battle... Yeah. She sings. I don't know what else to say about her.

VIII was fantastic, I thought. Much better than VII, that's for sure.

IX always rubbed me the wrong way. I don't even know specifically how to explain it these days. It just wasn't "fun" anymore. It kind of depresses me to not have fun with a genre I really like.

Yeah, I don't get why people hate on VIII so much. It was one off my favorites and i happened to really enjoy the management aspect of the weapons and materia. I really liked Final Fantasy VIII

I am not a fan of VIII. I don't particularly like any of the characters, the plot twist is ugh (same with the villains), and the junctioning/draw system are my most hated systems in any Final Fantasy.

VIII does have some interesting moments in it, and I do (for the most part) like the setting and the world. Also the GF system is pretty cool. But there's just so many negatives to the game that just irritate me and make it not that fun to play.

I'm probably going to play that after IX though, if I feel like it. Because I have just been in the mood to play all of the Final Fantasys lately.

I bought the Bioshock Trilogy a while back and I've finally started Bioshock. My first thought when starting the game was: I can't tell if this is an Ayn Rand themed game, Anti-Objectivist themed, or I'm grasping at straws. Still don't know. All I know is that it pounds that jump scare button.

I bought Ryse today and will probably get to that soon. I've been on a bit of a Roman everything stint recently and buying Ryse at full price was a part of that.

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

I think part of why I really liked VIII was because they tried something different with it, and it somewhat worked. It's not popular, and I'm not going to say the draw/junction system is excellent, but it was different, and unique. And it was relatively simple. I mean, I was able to figure it out.

Once you learn to refine magic and use the abilities you are given, it's actually a fairly simple game with a weird story. (I really like the story, because it's more open to interpretation than other FF, which are clear and to the point. Clear and to the point is good, but I appreciate something that's not so easy to figure out)

i loved the junctioning and draw systems. that gimmick could have gone on for more than one game. the sphere grid in ffx was the ant's ankles too.

edit: i have no doubt anymore that alien isolation is a puzzle game dressed as a horror game. the triggers and switches are all becomming very obvious. even though i'm still dying, i'm dying as a way to get the game to expose its mechanisms to me.

So, uh, I think I'm in a romance with Leliana now? Or...at least headed towards one? Haha oops.

I'm playing as a rogue. I've kind of been working her towards being my archer, so that's doing well - and for some reason, ever since we entered potential romance, I haven't been able to open, like, anything. Or disarm traps. And then she flits in from behind and is like "I can help you with that if you'd like ;) " Jerk.

She's actually got a pretty cool backstory now that I'm giving her the time of day. (That, and I like the fact that unlike my two male counterparts, I don't have to constantly agree with her or remind her that she's useful to get approval points.)
