I've been playing some Wizorb lately for some reason. It's fun enough in small chunks (one world takes about 30 minutes or so), although I've hit a couple of difficulty spikes and actually had to give up temporarily.

Also tried The Fall from a recent Humble Bundle. I like the premise and the aesthetic (at first it reminded me a bit of LIMBO), though it was rather jarring when I glitched the game into an unplayable state twice in a row by jumping in a way that it apparently didn't like. The controls for interacting with things are a bit eugh, but I'm loving (parts of) the execution of the story. To summarize, you play as the support AI in a military exo suit. Your human pilot is unconscious and badly injured, so you are controlling the suit and trying to find a way to save your pilot. That said,

I actually started playing Dragon Fantasy Book 1. It's very short, and not all that great. But I got it for free (with its sequel) so whatever.

Makes me wonder how people can get away with selling games that were made with RPG Maker and aren't all that good/don't add anything innovative. Feels wrong. I wouldn't be able to charge 5 bucks for a game I made with RPG Maker.

There are a lot more missions like that in Enemy Within. One in particular is incredibly stressful, but I'm not going to spoil it. If you manage to complete it well, you will feel like a badass, though.

Gave Skyborn a try since I'm still struggling with Wizorb. It's an RPG Maker game I got in a Humble Bundle, and it's actually quite good so far. The setting has a kind of steampunk fantasy vibe going on, with a spunky female protagonist. Battles are mostly standard fare, but the inclusion of a "Threat" system freshens things up a bit. Dealing damage raises a character's Threat level, and enemies always focus their attacks on whoever has the most Threat. There also seems to be a lot of stuff to collect, what with item crafting, equipment augments, and general collectibles.

I beat Dragon Fantasy Book 1 100%, and beat Dragon Fantasy Book 2 to the point where I only have a few more things to do for 100% and the platinum.

If you have 20 bucks to spare, and want some ok, but not excellent RPGs, then this is an ok 24 hour experience (the two games combined took me 24 hours to 100% basically, they are really short.)

The first game is inspired by 8 bit RPGs Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy I/II, and Rogue. Very simple combat, with very little change to the formula over the three plus one chapters.

The second game is inspired by 16 bit RPGs Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger. The latter is readily apparent in the battle system, which more or less plays the same way. It can be a bit slow at times, but the game is fun.

In a way, I'm glad the games were short, because had they gone longer, they would have gotten boring.

Now, I finish the second game 100%, and get to take a break before I start something more interesting.

Picked up Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask for $10 thanks to Monkey. I am absolutely loving it. It's doing a good job of offering different kind of puzzles game mechanic wise. While most are still in the same format, sometimes there is a puzzle in a cutscene or there was a bit where it was all top-down adventure with maze and sliding puzzles. The only thing I am sad about is that I may have predicted the identity of the villain an hour into the game, but don't know that yet since this is a looooooooong game.

Just finished Skyborn. It wasn't very long (14 hours with thorough exploration), but the story and characters were top notch.

Yeah, I heard. Sucks what happened to them. In spite of my complaints, I can tell that a lot of heart went in to the game. It's a shame they will never get to expand on their ideas.

they were being investigated for fraud at one point over an mmo that ran way over budget.

still stuck on the smelter demon in dark souls. my fire defense is non existing so this whole area is worse than frankenstein or dr no.

edit: awwwwww yisss bosses went downtown fucktown and im totally lost now.

Been sick this weekend and monday-Theusday.
I needed something thats good in single player so I went back to Divinity : Original Sin.

It's a really nice game, puts you back in the original quest setup without markers or help. all you get is what people has told you from your questions, and it's up to you o figure out what leads you should follow.

Also a new version of RimWorld Alpha is out. and it has some nice improvements. I have good hopes for this game

thanks! I beat the last boss, who was disappointingly easy. i have to start a whole new game though, because the last area is stuck at NG+20, while the rest of the game is just NG+. i thought i'd be a smart guy, and super power the last really hard normal enemies to grind with. it worked, but now it's going to be impossible with the huge discrepancy in level. i did it after i cleared the area too, so i fought the boss on standard difficulty.

Been playing the Long War mod for XCOM. It's crazy difficult, but it makes so many fun changes. It turns XCOM into the game I wanted it to be.

I've been very curious to try that mod. Maybe I should give Civ 5 a rest for a while to see how that goes...

Nah, Civ 5 is pretty awesome. I should probably be playing more of that. When are we going to multiplayer that bitch up?

Oh, with XCOM I'm assuming you mean the mission where you find the boat infested with Chrysalids. I've done that mission before, but with Long War chrysalids have lightening reflexes, which I'm guessing will make it pretty impossible.

The boat mission becomes surprisingly easy when you realize that you just need to hit the switch and book it the hell out of there. If you stop and try to kill all the chrysalids, you very easily become overwhelmed and slaughtered. I was actually referring to the...

Nope, haven't gotten that far. I kinda struggled with the boat mission, but I managed to get everyone out alive.

I've just spent an hour or so messing around with ini files. I've edited the Long War mod so that Chryssalids aren't so ridiculously fast (they're faster in Long War) and they don't have lightning reflexes. Should get me through the boat mission. Can you just outrun them normally?

Not quite. My usual strategy on that mission is to start by killing everything I can found hanging out outside of the boat. Then, send a single solider to the top of the boat to hit the switch. You can get there really quickly if you have the right armor/meld upgrades/MEC upgrades. Or you can just climb the pipe on the side of the boat (don't bother with the stairs inside, they're too far away and too close to danger).

While that person is heading for the switch, take everyone else down below to destroy any Chrysallids that pop out of the whale. When you first approach this area, they shouldn't be coming out more than one or two at a time. After you press the switch, move the person on top out off of the boat ASAP, and once they're down, move everybody away. Use both turns to RUN AWAY, unless a chrysallid gets too close, then you obviously have to kill it. You need to use both turns to run, anyway, because if you only make one movement per turn, you wouldn't even make it out without the Chrysallids.

I like to keep my MEC toward the back, since they usually have higher health and can't be infected (and can either kill a chrysallid in one hit, or cause it to panic with fire). Using this strategy, I've been 100% succesful every time. The only time I lost everyone to this mission was my first try, when I kept everyone in the boat, trying to fend off the stupid aliens.

Of course, this only applies to the normal game. The chrysallids from Long War sound absolutely terrifying.

Finally starting my playthrough of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

I don't expect much. I didn't expect much out of XIII-2 and liked it.

By not getting hyped, I hope that this game is similarly good.
