I prefer Lugia and the color silver over Ho-oh and gold, but I like the exclusives from HeartGold better that SoulSilver's (yay Kyogre). =/

This. Silver was my first Pokemon game, so it would make sense for me to get SoulSilver, but I really want an Arcanine and Ariados without having to trade. :/ Maybe I'll flip a coin to decide.I am at a loss as to which version to get.

Heh, I look forward to fighting blaine's torkoal, as underleveled as it is compared to the rest of the team.

And... I felt like I should stop filling up the what are you playing topic with stuff that should rightfully go here.
Gotta say, the new game corner game is addicting. It took me a while to understand everything about it, but now I definitely love it better than the old slots, though I hate how you can't just buy coins anymore. The game's a mix between sudoku and mine sweeper. There are four different symbols that could be under the cards you flip. 1, 2, 3, and a voltorb. If you uncover a voltorb, you lose any coins you might have been able to win that round. On the side of each row and at the bottom of each column are your hints. The first number is the total amount each hidden number in that that row/column is worth added together. The number next to the voltorb is the number of voltorbs hidden in that row. You beat a level of the flip game if you can uncover all the 2's and 3's that are hidden. Then you go to higher levels of the game where there are more 2's and 3's than before and a higher base multiplier (for lvl 3 or higher), but there may also be more voltorbs.
seeing the grid of cards here will help you understand what I'm explaining
The way the coins add up is by multiplying. the 2's and 3's are coin multipliers, multiplying the total coins you have. so... any number of 1's turned over is 1 coin... with two 2's uncovered is 4 coins. uncover a 3 and it goes up to 12 coins. If you uncover all the non-1 multipliers, the game stops and gives you your coins from that game then it starts a new game on the new level. If you want to keep all the coins you've amassed before you've uncovered all the 2's and 3's, then simply quit and it'll stop that game. Generally, you get quite a few tries at beating/keeping a good number of coins at the new levels, but enough losses without a decent number of 2's, 3's uncovered will drop you down a level or perhaps two. The only way to drop down levels immediately (and right back to lvl 1) is if your first pick of the game is a voltorb.
using the row/colum totals for voltorbs and numbers can often help you figure out which card is definitely a voltorb, but even so, it still comes down to dumb chance a lot of the times, especially in the beginning flips, and sometimes even at the last few multipliers left, so you really have to give the Quit option a serious thought when you've racked up some coins. There's a memo pad you can use to make unflipped cards to remind yourself that a card could be a voltorb or another number card, which is really helpful.
I've been all the way up to level four so far, and it's been my experience that the first level gives out 24 to 32 coins or so, and level 2 will give out from around 40+ to 80+ coins... I think.
I think i spent 4 hours just playing it the first time I got to it and forgot about the whole playing the rest of the game and got at least 1,200+ coins after getting the knack of it. Still, the prizes are expensive as hell, at least the tm's are, with things like ice beam and such priced at 10k. Dratini's at 2,100 or so (abra and some other pokemon are cheaper), but I think I'd hold off on that one for that Extreme Speed Dratini that dragon gym leader or someone is supposed to give you.
Pokeathalon is fun too, but a touch screen minigame fun instead of this chancey brain teaser. The Pokeathelon lets you rack up points faster and lets you trade for useful things, like pp ups and heart scales at around 1k pts (i usually get 350 or more from each power event session I do). other items are things you can buy like full restores, or are evolutions stones/items for 2.5k each. Oh, apricorns are available too. what you can trade for points at the exchange counter changes from day to day. Me, I like trading in 50 points for fresh waters at the vending machines when i'm not saving up for pp ups. =D
But that reminds me of yet another topic. Custom balls still take a day for Kurt to make them for you, but now you can give him as many apricorns you want of a single apricorn color per day. So, one could buy a lot of apricorns one would need to make fastballs for those legendary dogs and have kurt spend a single day making your arsenal. or you can use them to make juice to improve your pokemon's pokeathelon stats, but apparently they also decrease some stat while raising one or two other stats. No one mentioned this before... the juice i bought from the machine raised some stats on my fearow while lowering it's Speed. Don't know how it all works yet, or if there's a limit to how many can be givin as with poffins and such, but here's hoping there isn't a limit.
You can still grow berries, but there aren't any soft soil sqaures to find. you get a set of berry pots (5) later in the game to plant, water, and fertilize them in. yay.
Btw, I hate goal roll. it sucks because all the pokemon always end up in the middle as a clusterfuck, making it hard to get a shot just to take a ball from one side to another, as it will bounce and ricochet off any pokemon in the way. plus others can steal points by hitting the ball into any goal after you've worked hard to get a ball close to a net. That being said... I've somehow been winning with a pretty good sized margin.

I think in honor of the remake of my favorite games and generation, I'm going to go with all Generation II Pokemon. Off the top of my head I'm thinking:
Typhlosion
Ampharos
Scizor
Espeon
Crobat
Kingdra
If only I didn't have tests and essays to work on, then I could play HeartGold foreeeeeeeever

Anyways... trick is to mark off all the cards that can only be 1s or voltorbs. They're not even worth guessing at, even to help make sure where that voltorb is in that crossing line/column. Simple, but try it. Especially if you've only got like a 3 uncovered, that usually lets you cross out that entire set of crossing lines.
Eh... my weepinbell really isn't doing anything except falling behind in levels. So my sixth slot is still open, save when my hm slave machop is there. I'll either use the red gyarados from the lake of rage, or raise that evee I just got from bill. And I'm leaning towards the gyarados.
BTW, i've gleefully annihilated every mareep and flaafy i've come up against. And i'm still on spring break. =P

I'm running HeartGold so I can't catch one. Uh, I don't really have much to offer for trade, but I did get a bit far in Platinum. Perhaps anything catchable in there? Or if you're running a SoulSilver, perhaps when I play into the game a bit further, I can trade you an exclusive HeartGold Pokemon of choice.

I haven't even battled Falkner yet and I'm already in 4 hours O.o It's due to me talking to everyone ingame and just.....wandering I guess. I like taking the games slow. So far I have some opinions:
Things I Like:
Running Shoes - You can turn them on. Not like my thumb was stressed in the past having to hold down the B button, but it's cool you can just turn them on. Hilarious how the Gent in Cherrygrove runs super fast with them.
Touch Screen Menu - Nice having it always down there with all the options. Again, it wasn't an inconvenience to click a button to bring up the menu, but I like it better than the applications that are there in DPPt. Plus, you can click a button on the screen to talk and interact with things. You can basically plat the game using only the touch screen and direction pad, no buttons required.
Bubbly Feel - Just how everything is rounded and smooth, from the graphics in the world to the menu buttons and everything else. It all just feels so friendly.
Sprout Tower - Now I forgot to test this so I don't know how it works, but I believe that Sprout Tower is required to play through. I'll have to look it up but I think you can't battle Falkner until you beat it. In the original games I would usually forget to play through it half the time.
Walking Pokemon - So. Freaking. Awesome! And better yet, the incorporate it into the story really, with how Elm is studying the effects of letting a Pokemon follow you. So bizarre when I switched Zubat to my lead slot and to see it flying behind me. This is far better than Pikachu in Yellow.
Pokemon Dialogue - I mean the things your Pokemon say that follow you, or at least the description of what they are doing. What's great is that it is customized. When it became nighttime my Pokemon started to yawn, when it was paralyzed it struggled to keep up, around the companion character's Marill it said it wanted to play, and best of all was when it said it was "nervous about how the tower was swaying." So great to see that it's not just random text but fitted to the situation, place, and time. Except my Pokemon was holding something but it wouldn't give it to me. That was mean.
NPC World Sprites - A lot of them have changed how they look in the overworld and what I like is how they are dynamic. Their features really stand out even at that size and they all look like unique characters instead of generic NPCs.
Things I Don't Like:
Route 32 - They moved some of the grass on it so you can reach it before beating Falkner. Now it only has two new Pokemon, Wooper and Mareep, but it's the latter that makes me kind of miffed. Yeah I caught one and I'm training it, but I feel like I'm cheating. Part of the appeal to Falkner was you had now Electric type to be Super Effective with, but now you can just Thundershock his ass if you really want to. You can just not use Mareep but it just doesn't feel the same as the old games.
PokeWalker Level - There is no way to tell what level a Pokemon in the PokeWalker is. Now it can only gain 1 level max while it is in there, but I'd still like to see what it is. This early on I can easily level up a Pokemon, but down the road I'd like to know if it leveled up to level 60 before I take it out. I'm fine with it not learning moves or evolving in the PokeWalker, since the former can actually be an issue at the DayCare. Just wish I could monitor that along with Happiness. Also, I didn't think you COULD level Pokemon in the PokeWalker for a while. Bulbapedia, Serebii, and the Instruction Manual mention it little to none. It will mention that you gain Experience from walking, but not how or when or how you level or the limits or anything. It has only been through various sources I have learned about the single level limit and that it is 1 Experience for 1 Step.
Kangaskhan - I just caught one on the PokeWalker. It felt....wrong. In the Safari Zones of past it was extremely rare to find one and even more rare to actually catch it. Now, first Pokemon I find is a Kangaskhan and I manage to catch it on my first try. It's great that I can catch one, it just felt too easy is all.
Those are my feelings at the moment with what I have done so far in the game.
Not "conspiracies". Conspiracy. Singular.

I can probably trade you a vulpix. I don't think I need anything in particular for it, but I'll check when I get home from work in a few hours.
Yay, thank you. AIM me whenever you get the chance to trade :)

Btw... did you want it straight trade? It'd be at lvl 12 or 13, but I got me a ditto early in the game in the grass right by the old couple's place. I could trade you an egg if you prefer.
Btw... pokemon in a pokewalker can only go up one level per outing, no matting how long and how manny steps you take, so no worries. Just lots of back and forth between the game and the walker. I think it mentioned something about not learning moves in the walker if it levels up.
You also get to battle and catch a lot of traditional safari zone pokemon. For instance: eggxecute, tauros, scyther, pinsir.
Lol, when your pokemon likeyou more, they'll be happy to give up the accessory they picked up. Or else, they throw a temper tantrum as they did with you. xD
Anyways, just beat Clair for my 8th badge and got myself that special extreme speed dratini. And now I've decided to name pokemon after MGS characters. Onix is Solid Snake, my red gyarados is Liquid Snake, a steelix will be Solidus, and my dratini is Big Boss. =D
Btw, Clair's Kingdra was havoc on my team and had more spc attack that anything else i'd seen up to that time... and yeah, my team isn't terrible big on special def, what with at least two of 'em being Naughty natures. Also.... the kimono girls are really tough this time around, and they only challenge you after you beat clair.
I also imported a lot of my raised battlers from pearl and pt, when i had the spare pokedex fodder. I've used 'em mostly for getting first place medals in all five events. Gotta experiment with my ditto to discover how blending apricorns and such will affect my pokemon, since they are indeed limited in the amount you can give each pokemon. And gotta figure out who I can use to actually get all 5 medals on one pokemon...
