One more thing: Does anyone want to do anything specific? As in going to an amusement park, going hiking, fishing, biking, shopping, or just plain laying around? Obviously there won't be the perfect place for everyone. If I can find a place that has the majority of what we're looking for it will make this MP-Con far more enjoyable.

An amusement park would be pretty fun (but I know some people may not be into that- *cough*StarsandKamau*cough*), so I'd also be up for someplace more nature-y where we could go hiking.

I was thinking the same since Kasper suggested places with more vegitation and everyone seemed to be down with that.

I'd be super down for an amusement park buuuut, July would be the worst possible time to go to an amusement park and it'd cost a lot more for everyone.

Depends on the park really. I've found a few already that are smaller than a typical park. It's not the only thing I'm looking for either.

There are a ton of options for national parks. Those are far cheaper, but about the only outside attraction.

I'll be sure to give multiple options.

im not a fun person in hot crowded enclosed spaces with lots of other people. last time i went to six flags, i really wanted to leave after 2 rides after the harness on this stupid ride was waaaay too tight and i couldn't breathe.

 

hiking is fun, especially in big groups. hiking means woods, lepidoptry, paintball, trust falls campfires, marshmallows and all that stuff.

Carnivals are more fun in some ways. Not so big on the thrills, but the atmosphere is nicer. Though, we may not find out when or where there's going to be any carnivals until that year, since they do tend to move around.

Scratch what I was saying about that. I asked about it, and I had forgotten that they won't in Wichita the whole time they're visiting America. It's a wonky schedule that will be hard to plan around in advance, so ignore it. xp

Okay, mind you this is very minimal research, nothing extensive. I only include attractions and activities as extras. This doesn't mean we have to do anything suggested here. So far I have been researching under the assumption that this will be 5-7 days long. While I bet the majority of the time will be all of us simply staring at each other in awe, but having a few things nearby helps.

 

I have broken this up by state.

 

Kansas:

Lodging A
While a little pricer side it has enough beds and is spacious. Downside is that I ahve no reviews to go off of.

 

Attractions for Lodging A:

Amusment Park

The group rates start at 15+. I'm not certain we'll break those numbers, but it's only 35 minutes from the lodging.

Free Activities

Since we are all less than billionaires I found a list of activites that cost nothing more than time. Quick summary - Art Museum, Brewing Co. (beer), Penguin Park etc.

Lodging B

Has a bit more privacy from neighbors. Lots to do outside the house, there's a lake that we'd have free reign over! Price is right, but even though it may accommodate 11 people, there is only 3 bedrooms. The pictures to make it seem too crowded.

 

Attractions for Lodging B:

Salt Mine

We'd be going underground, not for everyone I know, but still neat.

Cosmosphere

Fancy planetarium.

 

Colorado:

Lodging A

The most expensive one out of all the lodgings (I did not do this on purpose). This has it all, space, rooms, beds, and privacy.

Lodging B

A far more reasonable price, 9 beds ( I do know a few will be sleeping in the same bed), nice area, public transportation close, and closed backyard. no parties though, we would be too close to the neighbors for too much noise.

Lodging C

Extremely open spaces - perfect for a group setting! Sadly that means less individual space, only 3 bedrooms.

 

Attractions for Lodging A-C:

Amusement Park - Again need 15 + for group pricing, but it's well within a short drive for the lodgings listed above.

More brewing (Beer) - Need I say more?

Zoo - ANIMALS

The Great Outdoors - Several trails extend across this state. You could pretty much place a mp in from of you, randomly point, and there's a trail nearby.

Price is right, enough beds and rooms for all. Fenced backyard for privacy with public transport nearby.

Quiant County nearby

Nature Center - Here is your outdoor activity, plus it has a cool name.

Bring your fishing rod, if you have one. A fairly price house for a group such as us.

Lodging B

The owners of this one are full of eneergy. i can tell from the description.

Lodging C

Overall a cute house. Nice deck and open spaces. Easy to move around in.

 

Attractions for Lodging A-C:

Zoo - ANIMALS

Old Market - it's a small town with small shops, entertainment, and cozy scenes.

Children's Museum - Totally for adults.

A tour around and about!

 

Wyoming:

Open and inviting. (Christmas Tree not included - see photos)

Lodging B

Has a nice view, but few photos leaves me wondering if this is spacious enough.

Yellowstone National Park

Square Dancing - It's so cheap how can we not learn to dance like a square!

 

Utah:

We'd be cutting it close with space, but we don't have exact numbers just yet. this is a mini-mansion, owners would likely be in lower levels during trip.

Lodging B

Enough room, stunning view, and great sitting rooms for group gathering. It is a bit pricer.

Lodging C

The backyard for this place is a forest!

 

Activities for Lodging A-C:

Grand Canyon - This is only a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from any of the lodgings listed above.

National Parks - Zion or Duck Creek Village - plus a ton of open wilderness to simply explore around the lodging areas. Remember to go in pairs, dont' want people vanishing now do we?

 

Phew, sorry that took so long! Even though I did light research, I didn't want to half ass any information. These are just suggestions. Now let's converse about any qustions, comments or concerns.

I agree. the Cosmosphere looks great, but Colorado is a beautiful state!

Stars said it perfectly - I'm more than content watching you all risk your necks on casual thrills that freak me out! XD I enjoy plenty of other things at amusement parks. :p

 

 

Looking at those different places... not looking too deeply because bed but! I support most places with some form of pool/water/hot tub amenities.

Kansas, lodging A is roughly a 14-hour drive for me. Not gonna lie, I find it a little weird that this guy randomly has a huge house that he can rent out to a ton of people? 

 

Lodging B is kind of neat, though 3 bedrooms would be....interesting, to say the least. I'm sure people would take the couch and such, but I don't see 3 bedrooms comfortably fitting everyone. B is a 16 hour drive for me.

 

Colorado, A. No rowdy parties? How rude. :p Colorado is a 22-hour drive... Liking these less and less. XD 

 

B. I guess renting entire houses really is a thing, haha. Denver is 21 hours...but I guess if there's an airport close enough I could suck it up. No matter where we put it, chances are good someone's gonna have to fly. 

 

C comes with air mattresses? Cool. Still not sure how 3 bedrooms would work out, but you're right that people will be sharing beds either way.

 

I like the patio that's with D. I'm pretty sure you're working your way West though. XD 

 

Nebraska, A. I spy a hot tub! The beds are pretty small though - it'd be hard for people to share. 

 

B. Wow, cheap! And only 14 hours away from me. XD C also has a hot tub, and is basically in the same place, apparently.

 

Wyoming. I've never been there! Warning: take me square dancing and I'll never want to leave.

 

Didn't look too closely, but if it's not within 4/5 hours I probably wouldn't drive anyway (there's a chance of it if I have someone else in the car, but that'll depend on whether it's cheaper for Puffin to come to me and then travel together, or just fly straight there...) so I guess it wouldn't matter as long as it's far enough out that I can book cheap flights. However, if we go back to that 4/5 hour mark, I totally wouldn't complain.

 

As for attractions, I kind of feel like if we can narrow it down to a part of the US we can work from there. Everywhere has something going for it, even if we have to hunt for it. :p 

 

Also, I'll add that I have zero problems paying for whatever my share would end up being. I mean, if there are 13 of us and the place is 300  night, that's $161 a person to spend a week, plus whatever transportation ends up costing. That's reasonable.

Out of all those I most prefer Colorado Lodging B. I'd also be willing to pay for all of it at that price.
