Here are my thoughts on this personally:

 

• Three months is way too short of a time span for me. I am about as far as you can possibly be from Ohio without actually leaving the country. I also have stuff planned in the coming months and there is no way this fits with that because I won't be able to get the time off and Bee would never be able to get the time off. I also have no idea how that is going to change in the next few months as my position is changing.
• I hate flying and it'd be expensive. It'd be a couple of thousand just for Bee and I to get there and stay.
• I also hate flying. Especially far. So I don't even know if I'd want to do that.
• There's also no way I could ever drive that far without taking weeks off of work (and spending a lot of money staying at places just to get there).
• I don't even know what country I'm going to be in in a few months.

Here is the other thing I was thinking. If you guys are willing to wait, and do it either this time next year or maybe even late winter/early spring but move it closer to where I am (farthest being like Colorado/Kansas). I'm willing to pay for everything that isn't transportation costs. There's some damn fine places in Oregon/Washington/California. :P

 

But yeah, no way in the world can I go if it happened this year. August is too soon, and winter will be coming. Also it gets really busy towards the end of the year (and like I said, I have no idea what is happening with me at work).

that's a totally different animal than the ohio wilderness. what types of places would you be looking at?

I haven't looked into it though. I'm sure there is a lot of crazy weird places in Oregon/Washington/Northern California.

What do you say to maybe a September Con MD?

As long as we plan it now it'll happen. Especially if I pay for everything. :P

 

I think it's a bit unfair to just expect it to happen in Ohio, at least if you want me to be there. Ohio for most of you is just a short car ride. I couldn't even get out of the state of California in the time it'd take you to go to Ohio.

I'm fine with waiting until next year. And as the most centrally located member, anywhere is fine with me. :p

i originally suggested ohio only because the place i found was right between a big forest, and cedar point.

Well, I do plan to get my own place sometime next year, and I wouldn't charge you guys anything. Dunno that I could "accommodate 10 people" comfortably though.

My sister's family is usually here in July. I'm good for most of June though.

I'm good for either June or July. I should be out of class by then, and with this being planned far enough ahead of time, I don't see anything getting in the way.

I think that as long as we pick a month/date set, no matter how far out it is, we'll go through with it. As in, specifically pick that time frame now and just go with it, because the farther out we do it, the longer everyone has to confirm that they can go, and make preparations. 

 

I have no problem with waiting till next year, and I have no idea whether June or July is better but as long as it doesn't fall right around a holiday (assuming I'm still working at the same place, which...a year is a long time to say that. However! Getting a new job and already knowing when something is just means I can put in for it upon applying :p ) I should be fine. 

 

And not gonna lie, I totally get that Ohio is far for some of the California folks like Monkey, but if it's a centralized location for most of the forum, it makes more sense... (Of course, even the places we're looking at in Ohio are 4 hours from me; I'm just fine making that drive.) I will say that it may be a long drive for Monkey to get to Ohio, but it's an equally long one for me to get to the place you linked in Mt Hood. :p And since there's no way I'd drive 37 hours to get to this, and I, too, would prefer not to have to fly.

 

But hey! I'm sure we'll be able to figure out something if we start working on it now.

Well if most of you are from the East and you all just drive it could be MP-con road trip too :P

 

I honestly think Colorado/Nebraska/Wyoming/Kansas would be best. But the closer it is to me the more willing I'll be to pay for it all/most of it. If it's still in Ohio next year that's okay too, it gives me a longer time to prepare.

 

It really is more of just finding the best fit for everyone I think.

I'm cool with it being next year, I travel so much I tend to need like 6 months advance warning to be able to commit to anything. Saying that I am going back to uni in September so June/July would probably work best as I should be on holidays by then. Psyched.

MD - if you don't mind sharing, what is your price range? If I go looking at hotels, houses, castles, or shacks I don't want to suggest something over what you can afford.

Another thing, just to keep everyone updated, VP and I have decided to take the girls with us. After milling it over it seemed far more economical and less stress with getting a babysitter for a week or so. I wanted it known so if anyone else does any looking they have the information that small children will be present.

One more thing: Does anyone want to do anything specific? As in going to an amusement park, going hiking, fishing, biking, shopping, or just plain laying around? Obviously there won't be the perfect place for everyone. If I can find a place that has the majority of what we're looking for it will make this MP-Con far more enjoyable.
