Survivor Finale!

There is no way anyone would be guaranteed Final 3, special powers or no. Guys, don’t be ridiculous and believe that.

 

A boat? What’s going on? Oh hey! Loved ones! Haha, that’s awesome. This season’s been pretty anti-climactic when it comes to loved ones (casually handing the reward winners letters and never talking about it again, and now casually showing up on a boat). I’d feel bad for Tony about it not being his wife but at least it’s someone you know and care about, and it’s true, there’s no way both parents could leave the baby behind.  But at least they didn’t all have to battle each other for the chance for only a few of them to get the reward.

 

“And I can see proposing to my wonderful girlfriend! …After getting permission from her mom and dad, of course.” Oh Woo. You’re wonderful.

 

I just want to be that cameraman aaaaugh. Seriously though I don’t really know how I feel about being live all two hours. I feel like it’ll take time away from the amount of actual show they’ll show.

 

Challenges like this, I’d love to say I could do, but I would freeze either partway up the ladder or at the top due to my stupid fear of heights. I’m a little disappointed that the loved ones aren’t participating but obviously I can see why. (Hahaha Kass is miserable at this challenge. No wonder they didn’t show her in the preview.) Come on Spencerrr! Kass looks so fed up with this water haha.

 

Spencer, that piece might look good from your side but I can see a gap…But more importantly, I can see pieces not lining up on Tony’s. Haha. Up, here comes Kass. Wow! She’s got this! I am impressed, yet highly upset considering no one in their right mind should want to take Spencer with them.

Oh look, there’s the first mention of a final 2. I mean, I sure hope you’re wrong, Spencer, because final 2 sucks. But I do love your strategic move there. And another somewhat smart move to plead your case in public in front of the jury, though the jury doesn’t look like they believe you at all. I’d be more than okay with a Tony/Spencer final 2 if it has to happen, though!

 

I love that no one’s even considering going after Tony, just in case of his idol. But I can sure see why Spencer’s keeping him around right now. This is not looking good for Woo at all (ps I love how Jeff isn’t confirming or denying a final 2).

 

I enjoyed the reactions to Tony’s revealing of the special powers.

I really like the look of this final challenge, though. I’d totally enjoy testing this one out. It was smart of Kass to go her own way; now no one knows what way  she went. Unlike Woo who’s just following Tony along. (And just like that, she falls behind.) Tony stop cheating! And Woo wins with a second to spare!! I’m glad it’s Woo who gets to make the final decision, though it’ll suck if/when he takes Kass with him over Tony.

 

“I cannot wait to snuff your torch.” Ahahah Jeff. Can I film it? That’s all I want in life.

 

See, Tony, if you’d just voted Woo out and gone for Spencer, you would have been guaranteed that spot. Because Kass has a way better point about not taking Tony. I understand Woo’s dilemma – it just saddens me that he’s so faithful to a guy who probably didn’t vote him out last week because he thought he could beat him in the immunity challenge and had zero intention of bringing him if he was in Woo’s shoes.

 

And there we have it! The vote that just won Tony immunity! (Possibly.) (I wonder how Kass at Ponderosa went down. I’m tempted to go watch the video.) I can respect Woo’s decision though because (1) he kept with his integrity and didn’t want to lose who he was and (2) he wanted to take who he felt were the strongest players, which is my absolute favorite way to go.

 

Clue? What’s left in this game? A mirror. Okay, phew. For a split second I thought they were going to throw something else at us and I was not going to be pleased. What’s this, no final 2 bonfire? You’re just gonna leave camp behind? Haha. Whatever floats your boat. I guess they also got rid of the walk down memory lane for real, considering this is two seasons in a row where it hasn’t happened.

 

I dunno if I’d call it “one of the best seasons we’ve ever had”, Jeff. There are a lot of things about this season I didn’t like and wouldn’t mind not seeing again.

 

Jefra has nothing to say to Woo, haha. The problem with her interrogation was that she didn’t want to hear the possibility that Tony also played a good game on top of being a potential bad guy. This jury has had terrible questions so far, and it’s clear that a lot of them, if not every single one of them, are spiteful towards at least one of the final 2. Wow I felt the tension in that room when Trish got up there.  Spencer is also a wonderful edition to the jury discussion.

 

“You had the opportunity  to take one of the biggest goats in Survivor history to the end, you did what a good dog would do and stayed loyal to your owner. Is there anything you can say to convince me that this analogy doesn’t make sense?”

“Spencer, as a student of the game, as someone who appreciates the game, could you respect me if I had taken a goat like to the finals?”

“As a matter of fact, yes.  As a student of the game, I would expect you to take a goat to the finals.”

 

I’m pleased that Spencer is sticking true to his word about voting for Tony if he made it, though. You may not like the guy but man if Tony doesn’t deserve to win. The only person I’d have given the million over him would have been Spencer.

 

I want to say that Tony will win but it really comes down to how vindictive the jury is. If they base their votes on who outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted – Tony should win. But if they decide to vote based on who also managed to play morally at the same time (while perhaps playing a weaker game) then Woo could very well get it.

 

I’d really like to go to a live finale one day. Maybe next time it’s in NY…probably not but it’d be pretty cool!

 

“I cannot think of a season where more people have come to play – to win!” He has a point, actually. That was one great thing about this season.  I may not have liked all the games that were played, but there were a lot.

 

And there we have it! One vote Woo, and the rest to Tony! Otherwise he would have shaken them up. Congrats, man. I may not have liked your game but you deserved it.

 

Concerning your irritation with idols: I completely agree with you. Normally there's one idol per camp until the merge; then the idols that are still in play remain in play, and once they're played I'd say one goes back into the game for the merged tribe. None of this special idol crap.

The walk down memory lane? You mean the "Rites of Passage"?

 

I was so disappointed they didn't include that. It's always been one of the most cathartic moments, and one of the reasons I loved the final episode in the few seasons I've seen.

 

It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. I actually went searching, and here's what Jeff Probst had to say on the matter.

If you're going to actually watch seasons, definitely lemme know. :) Depending on what I remember/how much time I have I could rewatch some with you!

 

I'm sorry but I'm not actually all that excited about Blood v Water 2. I mean, the first one was literally last (now technically 2) season. And if it wasn't, it feels like it was. It must have gotten them good ratings so they want to make sure to keep the audience compelled, especially since they've been renewed to season 30 but they've got to make people want to watch past that. However, I am so so so glad they're bringing in all new players, rather than vets vs new blood. That was cool and all, but it's more fun to see new players than repeats. I'm interested in seeing the twist to Redemption Island (if you haven't watched those seasons, I highly recommend in order for you to get a feel for them) because I think it sucks how it played out last time. 

 

Thanks for the link to the interview; I agree that it was getting a little boring, considering you kind of have to try and find something nice to say about each contestant. It was nice while it lasted, and meant a lot to me in the beginning seasons. Also concerning the interview, I'm sad that they all seem to dig final 2 because I hated that with a passion, but I'm glad to see they like the epic final challenges more than the endurance. Endurance was great and all but these grand challenges are a lot more fun to watch (until you have players piggybacking off each other instead of going their own way).

 

Also, if you haven't read that site's finale recap, you're missing out. It's gold.

I plan on heavy marathoning the seasons I haven't seen, so I can be entirely caught by the time Survivor 29 comes around. Like so heavy, that it might be my go to for the next 3 months.

 

My buddy (who had never seen a season before this one) is also watching them all right now, and we plan to just completely shotgun our way to the present day.

 

Tons and tons of content to catch up on (something like 400 total episodes?) and I plan to get to it all before the next season.

I really hope Survivor 30 is another All Stars season, in that vein. I love new guys, I really do, but I also like when you bring back guys a second time, because it adds a different level of intensity, everyone generally knows what kind of game you are playing, so you need to have a second game plan to utilize. I understand those who don't like all star seasons, and they have every right to not like them.

 

It's just personally, I think it's harder to win in an All Star season than a non All Star season.

 

And if they have one, the people from this season I'd want to see on the All Star season are Spencer, Tony (he'd likely be voted out instantly), Tasha, and LJ. There were other players that played well, but these 4 are ultimately the only ones I would want to see a second time.

I'm anticipating something big for 30, and wouldn't be surprised if it was All Stars, but given that they've done that so many times I'm not all that sure what All Stars are left to bring back aside from this season. Blood v Water was All Stars so that rules all those guys out, and there was an All Stars season recently enough that everyone else I liked practically just came back. The only thing we haven't seen that I might enjoy would be all/most of the past winners, depending on who would be interested in coming back. 29 people is about 9 too many but they probably wouldn't get every single winner to come back... But I agree that I would love to see Spencer back. 

 

Let me know what you think of some of the gimmicks like Exile/Redemption Island. Have you watched Guatemala? Again, that's my favorite. And definitely watch them in order if you can because of the number of times veterans come back.

I'm going to watch them all in order (all of them are on CBS's website, right?) so I am not worried about a continuity thing.

 

The only seasons I have seen ANY part of are:

 

-Pearl Islands (Started watching at the merge, watched to the end)

-All Stars (Saw all of the season)

-Vanuatu (all)

-Palau (first half)

-Gabon (all - This may seem out of place, since all the others were consecutive, but my family actually knows Bob, so I watched to root for him)

-Cagayan. (all, obviously)

 

So I've seen all of 4 seasons, and half of 2 other ones. So I've basically seen 5 full seasons of 29. Still lots to see.

Good luck. :) There were some great seasons mixed in with some pretty crummy ones. I don't think you can find the old seasons on CBS.com but I could be wrong...Hulu Plus apparently has seasons 1 and 12-26 available. Apparently this site has all the seasons, but I haven't tested it

Yeah, the colors match a lot of my clothing too, so I can actually wear this somewhat frequently, without it looking too weird.

 

It's incredibly comfortable, and most of the time, I barely notice it is there. Still yet to go through the wash test (it hasn't gotten to the point where I need to wash it yet) but I'm very happy with the purchase.

I have been, this season has been pretty interesting as far as characters go... although I have a few problems with some of the cast.

I am not a terribly racist/sexist/etc person. At least no more than the average person.

 

But I find this seasons black women incredibly intolerable. The Amazing Race sisters and Val (Jeremy's wife or whatever) annoy the living shit out of me. I'm glad two of them are gone. 

 

Those three aside, there's Drew and Alec, the Florida surfer douchebags who were the type of kid in high school I absolutely loathed. I don't think either of them will get far (Drew got voted out!) and I've said that since the start of the season. They are not humble, they are not pleasant. They fancy themselves as ladies men, and think of themselves as super geniuses. People who have no sense of humility or sense tend not to go all that far. Or shouldn't.

 

But outside of those five characters, I'm finding most of the characters rather likable, even John Rocker (as a baseball and baseball history fan, I'm more than well aware of who Rocker is) who really isn't as evil as he is portrayed on the show. He says a lot of things in the heat of the moment, which is true, and he does have views I disagree with, but I do know he's not as violent as the show portrayed him (Such as on the episode when he got voted off, he threatened to knock someone's teeth out).

 

My personal favorites for this season are probably Josh and Reed, Wes, and Baylor. I don't dislike guys like Dale, Keith, or anyone else outside of the ones listed at the start, but those four probably stand out to me. 

 

I really liked Jeremy when the season started, but the further on the season gets, the less I like him. Part of me wants to see him get voted off before anyone else, simply so that I like him as he leaves. I don't want to dislike him.

 

This aside, I've found this season to be pretty fun, but with some really dumb moments, like the trading fiasco, and John Rocker NOT using his hidden immunity idol. It felt really obvious he was going to be voted out.

 

I'm hoping things pick up soon though, with the tribal swap coming next episode, things should get more interesting!

I was the happiest person alive when one of the "Twinnies" got voted out first. I want to see the other one gone so badly. And yeah, while Val hadn't been on my radar for the first episode I was glad to see her go by the time she was voted out. I mean, it's one thing to bluff about having an idol (but two? Jeeze, I can't believe anyone believed her at all) but when someone comes to you and says they're on your side...it might be an attempt to call your bluff, but that means you're going home either way! And yet somehow she thought they'd just turn the votes to the 'other option' and let her get away with it?

 

I don't care quite as much about Alec (though he was starting to get up there in the last episode...) but man, I was delighted to see Drew get his torch snuffed. He was arrogant beyond all rights, and he needed to go. 

 

I was fine seeing John Rocker go, but I hated how the other team all ganged up on him the second they found out about his past. First of all, it's his past, not his present. Second of all, you weren't there. It's not right either way, but it's one thing to call someone out on something you've seen, and another thing entirely to call them out on something someone tells you about. I got so angry when they started antagonizing him - but again, I was fine seeing him go. Sadly, he made an enemy of Jeremy before he went (dude, he did try to save her, in his own way, but she did nothing to try and save herself). 

 

The trading fiasco was hilariously awful. I can't believe they thought they'd get away with it, but so glad Jeff called them out on it. 

 

Favorites...I think I like Wes, and Josh, and probably John/Jacquelyn. But I'm not in love with anyone enough to really remember who they are when not watching the show at this point...I'll try to remember favorites next episode.  I'm enjoying the spin on Blood vs. Water this season though! Exile is exile (thank god they didn't go with redemption island again!) but it's fun watching loved ones battle each other in the reward challenges. I think I might want to see a group reward battle again soon, though. 

 

I wasn't expecting the swap so soon, but I am looking forward to it.

I'm not a big fan of Jon or Jaclyn yet, which is a shame, because I want to like them more. They have an interesting situation, where I think she can't technically have children or something.

 

But Jon just seems... boring so far, and without any sort of predominant personality. That could be a good thing for the game, but I don't know if it'll be fun watching him play if he continues to play the way he has. I could see him developing into a "King Shit" character, trying to run the show, once he gets fed up with others, or being the overly nice apologetic guy. Or anything in between, really. He has a lot of potential to be entertaining, but at this point, he hasn't really registered on my own radar.

 

I read this interview somewhere. I forget where. It was with John Rocker after he was voted out, and apparently one of the people on the other tribe likes to rub victories in the other tribe's face, and goes on at the end of challenges about it or something. These interviews honestly always make me wish I could see EVERYTHING that happened on the island. Even the "irrelevant" stuff. Because I'd like to see just how nice a "villain" is, or how they portray a decent person as a "bad guy".
