My dad was like, "Hey, wanna go see The Tourist?"
And I was like, "Um...sure."
So we went to go see it. And I lost no money from it. =p

Right now I'm watching Ancient Aliens from the ParanoiaHistory Channel. It's all about how extra terrestrials may have influenced ancient human civilization, stole our gold, and how jesus was a human/alien hybrid.

Superficially, just by glancing at the cover and the genre, one would think that Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight would just be another standard moe moe school slice-of-life anime series, but I can confidently say that this assumption may be very incorrect. Admittedly, after watching the first episode I didn't feel like pursuing this any further, but perhaps due to curiosity or just sheer boredom, I continued to watch the next few episodes - and proceeded to finish the series within the next day. Manabi Straight doesn't rely on satire or slap-stick comedy or any innuendos of any sort and it avoids the romance and drama that tend to plague other series of this genre. Instead, with an underambitious storyline and fantastically crafted characters, it delivers a charming message about the importance of friendship in student life and in the transition into adulthood. It's a very feel-good series, but at only thirteen episodes, I feel it has room for more growth: another season, perhaps? I'm sure it's very hit-or-miss, but I thoroughly enjoyed it~

I also watched The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The themes and overall style are reminiscent of those seen in 5 Centimeters Per Second. The animation is high quality and the storyline is very tightly crafted, and I suppose even the characters - whose personalities are not delved into too deeply - can be loveable to some extent. It was enjoyable, but ultimately very forgettable.

Finished Tamayura, an OVA marketed as a "healing" slice-of-life anime, whatever that is supposed to mean. The animation and soundtrack are superb and I felt that the characters, for the most part, were very realistic and pleasant. Unfortunately, due to the brevity of the title, their development wasn't such a focus and the plot wasn't very noticeable. Additionally, the take-home message didn't resonate with me in the slightest bit. Despite its shortcomings, Tamayura still manages to be surprisingly poignant and heartwarming, but perhaps a little forgettable. Should the producers decide to expand it into an anime series, I would consider watching it.

I still need to work on closing up the second season of Keion!. Sometime soon, whenever I feel that I've had enough pink sugar and fluff, I intend to start Angel Beats!. It's written by Jun Maeda, who happens to be an absolute beast at designing tear-jerkers, so I have high hopes for this series.

Mostly I've been watching Dragonball since I've only ever seen bits of it. I'm presently on season 3 of 5, getting near the end of the Red Ribbon saga.

Out of curiosity, I also started the first few episodes of Gundam 00. There are things I like about it and things I don't care for, so I'm going to try a few more eps before forming an opinion on it.

For whenever I get around to them, I got the next season of Shippuden and the Tsubasa Chronicle OVAs in the mail today. I hadn't even know about the OVAs until a few weeks ago when I randomly saw them on a shelf at Best Buy. I'm looking forward to those.

Watched The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya with my brother yesterday, and there's a bit of a story behind it (only partially covered in the Haruhi topic).

I found a torrent of the movie in 1080p and managed to download it in one night despite the file being over 10GB. When I tried to watch it on my own the next day, DivX told me that the audio wasn't working and that I "probably" needed to download the DirectShow codec to fix it. I tried that, but nothing changed. After Googling around for a bit, I found some people who had had the same error, and I downloaded the AC3 codec at someone else's suggestion. Since that still didn't work, I downloaded MediaInfo to ask the video itself what kind of codec it needed. I hit the button to go to the codec's website, installed FLAC, and still got the same audio error.

After watching a lower quality stream of the movie (in three parts, because MegaVideo), I found another torrent of it in 720p (and made sure it was a different subber to avoid the audio issue). After leaving my computer on for four days straight to download it (I usually turn it off every night to save power and to clear the processes), I found that this one had good sound...but the subtitles were only in Chinese.

Thoroughly annoyed but still wanting to watch the movie with my brother (without dividing it into parts with 30-minute gaps in between), I opened the Chinese sub version in RealPlayer on my side monitor, opened the 1080 no-sound version in DivX on my main monitor, timed them to be in sync, and switched of the display for my side monitor. This worked beautifully once I got it going, but it was not as easy as I had hoped to set up. Mostly this was because once I had them both open, the players (most Real) started acting wonky: freezing the video while the audio kept going, not pausing properly, etc. Then we had to pause it part way in, and it just got worse because it was harder to find reference points with Kyon's long internal monologues and the progress slider and timer on Real not moving when the video played.

However, even still...

It was totally worth it~

Can't wait for it to come out on DVD though. Less hassle that way.

Just remember that I hadn't posted any of my thoughts about Gundam 00 yet. First, I'd like to say that I'm surprised and a bit pleased that the main character is middle eastern instead of Japanese, even if he barely looks it. My main problem with him, though, is that he's about as likable as Shin (SEED Destiny) and has less personality than him to boot.
Other than that, I rather enjoyed the battles and most of the mobile suit designs. The Irish character was one of my favorites, though, so I'm a bit sad about what happened to him (even if the way it happened was kinda awesome).

Having only seen the first season of 00 so far, I'm a bit miffed that it felt like it should have been the entire story, yet there were too many loose ends to even pretend to ignore, and several of the side characters felt like they were just there to make the cast feel big. And the final villain kinda came out of no where and made me go "ugh... -_-"
Also I mustn't forget to mention that I thought it awesome and hilarious that they have a chubby gundam.

Other than Gundam 00, I've finished season 3 of Dragonball and am awaiting season 4 in the mail.
I finally started watching my new copy of Naruto Shippuden box 5, but the show is becoming a bit of a chore. I think I'll just collect them up through the arc with Hidan and Kakuzu, which should be coming up soon. That's about where I stopped torrenting the subs anyway, so my self-imposed obligation to buy all the anime I've downloaded does not apply to anything after that.
Spoiler

Also, the next chance I get, I'm going to try making a friend of mine who hates anime on principle (same guy who didn't want to see Inception because "everything with Leo is terrible") watch at least the first 6 episodes of Haruhi Suzumiya. He's a big fan of Fringe, so I'm hoping I can use the time-traveling, alien, esper, universe-destroying characters to talk him into it.

EDIT: Forgot to say that I quite like the two opening sequences for season one of Gundam 00.

I watched the entire series, it's kinda short, about 2 years ago. I want to revisit it and was hoping I could rely on yous folks to see where I could get it. By 'get it' I mean just watch. I don't want to go out and buy it. I'm lazy.

I realize this response is slightly outdated, but I just wanted to mention that Mushishi is a fantastic anime! Additionally, if you find Mushishi enjoyable, there's a good chance that you will also like Natsume Yuujinchou and Kino's Journey . The provided links have a neat summary and contain all of the episodes of each respective series. Just an idea in case you get bored or something.

I just finished all of Stargate SG1 and the two movies "Ark of Truth" and "Continuum". Overall I am very satisfied with the series as a whole. I recommend it to anyone who has nothing but time to watch it.

I forgot about this topic somehow. My mom got a bunch of Groupon codes for free Red Box rentals, so a few days ago I got a few movies that have been on my "list" for a while.

How to Train Your Dragon was about as good as I expected. I'm glad I saw it once, but I'll probably never watch it again on my own. Yay for Craig Ferguson.

The A-Team was pretty hilarious. I've seen almost nothing of the original series, but my brother used to love it. He watched an episode a year or so ago, though, and said it made him realize how campy it was. :p
I was disappointed that I never heard, "I pity the fool," though. I had been looking forward to that.

Toy Story 3 was...well it was Toy Story 3. What more can I say?
