I'm thinking that the first session could be character creation. It would allow everyone to brainstorm characters together and get to know the Roll20 interface before going into the meat of things. I want to use dice rolls for ability scores which makes it hard to plan out characters in advance because of that. More importantly though is so people can ask me what goes. I'm not doing a strict "You can do this, but not this" so if you have a race or class you want to use from any part of Pathfinder or some sort of gear, all you need to do is convince me that it is an awesome idea. But do use stuff from Pathfidner so I don't have to figure out rules for new stuff. Let me know when would work for you guys for the Character Creation Session.

 

I'm available after 6PM Monday thru Thursday and the rest of the days are my free days so I am really flexible.

I forgot about the previous Skype adventure. I wasn't available for that one after it was rescheduled. =(

All those days Stars is free? Yeah, I'm not. I'm free Saturday and Sunday, though, and the week after that I may be free more during the week days.

My weekdays are pretty much open, sans Tuesday evening. And I'll be helping a friend move out of his appartment tomorrow afternoon, but I should be free before the evening.

This is going to be difficult to get everyone on at the same time and I don't really have a good idea how to deal with it other than forcing a time on you guys. For that reason I'm probably going to make this somewhat of a one-off game. I figure 2-3 sessions: The first one to make characters because I am a big believer that half the fun is making the character, and then another session or two for the pre-made story. We can always continue the adventure later, but I think it will be nearly impossible for regular meetings to occur.

You could always aim for some smaller grouped sessions in between (esp if your first session is character creation). So say 2 people (out of 4) can make one day - you have a session, and then try for one session with 3 and 4 before hosting a third session with everyone. Then, both groups can use what they got out of their individual sessions (while at the same time choosing what to reveal/keep hidden, depending on your storyline).

 

And after the first big session, you could always have mini sessions with people - or people could make multiple characters, and those 'mini sessions' could be the creation of side-character story arcs, or something.

I'm all for having extra characters for mini sessions considering I basically have two characters already prepared. =p

I don't agree with multiple characters. It is not a substitute for having a group. Stars could easily make 4 characters and viola, you have a group....kinda. You still have only that many people that I'm talking with, no matter how many characters they control. I'm only trying to get at least 2 people for when we make the characters and that hasn't happened yet. And personally I do not think I could handle everyone dropping in and out for every session. Trying to make a continuous adventure/story/game/whatever when the first five group compositions are ABC, CB, ACD, ABD, BCD just does not seem pleasant on my end.

 

Sorry if that sounds like I'm just shooting down all of your thoughts. I am trying to figure out a way to make this flexible, it just might not be possible with the traditional Pathfinder setting that I'm using right now.

Regarding the last bit of Kamau's post, I don't think she (and certainly not I) meant using multiple characters at the same time. Rather, say Kamau and I each make a second character. These characters would have nothing to do with the main game that we're playing. But if on a given day we're the only two people available out of a group of four, we could do an unrelated story in the same world using these other characters.

But don't apologize! I also understand the issue that arises between the number of characters/story plots and the amount of work that would have to go into it. You're looking for solutions, and I'm just throwing ideas at the wall with you to see if anything sticks. :)

Only thing I can think of to work with potentially having a different set of players each time is to make each session a short standalone quest within the same setting. Like if we're in an adventuring guild or what have you, and not everyone responds to every bounty or job request. Wouldn't work as well with longer story spread across multiple sessions though, unfortunately.

You probably should post some suggested times for a character creation session, Fox. This isn't going to happen without someone going 'how about now?' incessantly. Bugging people about when they're free is the only way I had Scion happen as frequently as it did- and that was like, what, a month between each session? And now that I stopped doing that, the other sessions have basically hit a wall.

 

That said, I won't be free tomorrow and I'll have limited free time Tuesday through Thursday of next week, but I'm free besides that.
