I first noticed it when I bought Pokemon Y. Those manuals were always fun to read thru and would let you know about the new features in the game. I was expecting a manual to explain Super Training and PokemonAmie, but instead they are just dumped on you with no real explanation. Plus manuals always have artwork in them and the controls. Now a lot of games just flash the controller on the screen with everything labled and expect you to take it all in instantly.

it's fine with an established ip, i already know how to dark souls, otherwise figuring out the control scheme is just natural selection. the other thing i like about instruction books is how they give you the story in such a way that you're not mashing A to skip.

Well almost every game nowadays, especially Nintendo, has digital manuals (which you usually have to load the game and then semi get out of). Which aren't too bad. But I just like physical things. Almost every Wii U/3DS/Vita/PS3 game has this now.

If you like that kind of game yeah. I played it for a bit and found it enjoyable. But if you have no interest in shooters it probably won't win you over.

Try to go in spoiler free, if you are still free of spoilers from it. I definitely think it's worth it. Most people praise the story, and rightly so, but if you don't enjoy third person shooters at all, you won't enjoy it. The shooting mechanics aren't exactly revolutionary.

I haven't played many third person shooters (unless you count Mass Effect). I actually assumed it was first person, based on nothing. I had heard that the story is good, and nothing from it has been spoiled for me. I was thinking of getting it to have on hand since it's on sale right now.

So, I might be considering saving up for a 3DS.

My birthday is coming up and I usually get money (not a ton, but enough).

So I might be buying a 3DS within the next 2-3 months. Might.

Should I do this, I'll be buying Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and Bravely Default.

Does anyone else have worthwhile recommendations? (I'm also considering Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and a couple others)

Fire Emblem is awesome. Kid Icarus too (although the controls are kinda weird depending on if you have an XL/your hands).

Link Between Worlds is also probably one of my favorite games on the system. There's a lot of good games though, depending on what you'd want.

It would be an XL. My eyesight isn't bad, or anything, but every inch of screen is important.

I don't think I'll be getting a Link Between Worlds, honestly. I've never been big on Zelda.

I'm mostly looking for RPGs (like Bravely Default/Pokemon), Quirky fun games (like Animal Crossing), and games with tons of replay value where they exist.

It's worth noting that the XL screen has the same resolution as that of a normal 3DS. Whether that matters or not is up to you.

And by that do you mean the screen stretches more on the XL?

Because I don't know if that will matter honestly. If it makes it easier to read without hurting my eyes, I'm all for it.

The only real issue I find with it is that sometimes edges are more jagged (which makes sense, because the pixels are bigger). However, I've still played many an hour on the 3DS XL, and don't mind at all.

There's stuff like Etrian Odyssey and some Shin Megami Games.

Also, I've never had a problem reading my regular 3DS, and I tend to play it without my glasses on (and I'm basically blind). Nowhere as nice as my Vita' screen though. But it's really resolution that matters between the Vita/3DS (and an XL won't change that). Although I think I'm going to invest in an XL eventually because the 3DS feels too small for me lately.

Also also if you don't care too much about having an XL Radioshack has been had regular 3DS' on clearance for a while now. Right now it should be $75. I don't know how rare it is to find them though, as I don't go to Radioshack, the only one I've been in (in probably years) had some though, and that was a few weeks ago.

I'll take a look sometime next week, when I go out.

I have rather long fingers (which lead to having bigger than average hands).

I'm not sure if this affects anything, or if there's anything I could hold to show you my hand size, but I have concerns as to whether or not the regular 3DS will be too small for my hands.

A regular 3DS is basically the same size as a DS Lite. Maybe just slightly a little bigger.

So if you've ever used one of those that would be a good comparison.

Or slightly smaller than an original PSP...

I haven't ever owned the DS Lite. I once had a DS, but I also had smaller hands.

I have a Galaxy S3, if turning that sideways is any indication of the size of the device.

A G3 is a bit smaller (based off of my old Otterbox for my old S3).

Ok, so size probably won't be an issue (I play games on my smart phone a good deal, so I'm used to that)
