ok. #Excited

Not sure money is the best thing to add. Don't we already have plenty of in game items and resources we can sell and trade?

True. In my case I have tons and tons of cobblestone that i would love to sell to a economically realistic store. I could buy a blaze rod. That's why I push for economy. Plus, I love economics. :P I would love to mess with the market.

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

I'm starting to think that you don't understand how an economy works. If there is no demand for your cobblestone it is not worth anything. I have no idea what you mean by an "economically realistic store". You can already buy blaze rods, all you need to do is ask one of the other players.

If you're not a fan of barter economies, which you should be, it's worth considering that diamond is already the de facto currency because it is the most in demand item.

Often other players do not have those things available, so for high prices sometimes it would be worth it.

I'm with Bean on this one. I find the idea of the local economy more interesting as is, where it's regulated on a trade by trade basis, and our players decide the value of the items. If you are having trouble making it work, I think I have some ideas to help you.

Use the new mail system. It's super neat, you can use

/mail sendall I need some Blaze Rods. Name your price. (Or, "I can offer ******.")

That will send that message to every player who logs in to the server. I like to think that we can trust each other enough to make trades work even when we aren't online together, maybe using specific chests at the places we build. If you feel the need for more security in the trades, I'm sure something can be worked out. It gives the illusion of a living world much more than having NPC shops (more than what is already available, anyway) or an in game economy. It would also require less micro managing on the part of the admins.

I can't think of any item you couldn't order through the player the economy, except a couple of items like Ender dragon eggs, and Ender portal blocks. Things which are finite basically.

Anything else I'd be willing to trade, and the price I am willing to trade it reflects the difficulty for me to obtain that item.

An NPC shop would be incredibly easy to game and scam. I could, for example, put together a simple redstone circuit to constantly produce cobblestone blocks. I already have automated systems for farming arrows, bones, wheat etc. I could flood the NPC shop with these items endlessly if I wanted.

Looking through some files, I'm not sure how to easily enable that. I'll keep looking in to it.

Also, I notice we've had more players than I expected connect, including one with a very... interesting name.

Has anyone checked the house near spawn? Has it been tampered with yet? It's only a matter of time.

I believe you need an item that has silk touch to alter anything at spawn.

On the economy topic: I've ran a couple servers before and have tried several economy plugins, same for the various NPC plugins. I can tell you that both are annoying to set up, prone to bugs, and generally unreliable. Imo, they're not worth the hassle. Second, we don't really need an economy, since people seem to be trading things just fine.

Off topic: I made us island folk mailboxes and put them in front of our houses, in case someone drops by a present or two. I would've given others mailboxes, but I suddenly became too lazy to do so.

Nice work frost. I would like to deliver presents to all you island folk shortly.

How many blaze rods you need, streets? After I finally finish my guest house structure I'll be venturing into the nether for much needed supplies.

Lastly, sorry Spaz. Work called and I had to leave monkeycraft abruptly without saying bye.

Derpy joined the server today. :D

His shack is on the island near Spaz.

Also: There are now guest rooms in my house. Feel free to claim one my replacing the "Unclaimed Guest Room" signs by doors with "NAME's Room".

Spaz sold me some blaze rods so I'm good. I am looking for soul sand and obsidian however.

I would guess he needed them for a Brewing Stand since I saw one o those at his place.

In other news, the S.S. Glacier is complete! It's just a small merchant vessel. I may setup a warp if anyone wants to "sail in" to my place.

And, i'd love to spend some time at your arrow farm, bean. What will it cost me to rent out some time there?
