I've been in a board game kick as of late.

http://boardgamegeek.../shadow-hunters

I got this for Christmas. It's quick and a lot of fun if you're playing with the right people.

If you like the Mafia RPs the game is kinda similar to those.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Omega resurrection!

I've been resurrecting this topic a lot over the years, it seems. This time because Backgammon.

I don't remember if I've talked about it here already or not, but a few months ago my dad spent some time with his sister and her son, and they played a bunch of Backgammon. His relatives had apparently been learning techniques from a book titled Backgammon for Blood, and he picked up some new tricks during his time with them. (Also I bought him a copy of the same book for Father's Day, though I refuse to read it myself.) Consequently, he started overwhelming me for a good long while before I started figuring out what he was doing differently from before. Now I've won four of our last five sets, and I'm feeling pretty over-confident. I'm rather curious to see if I'm as good as I think I am against people I don't normally play, so if anyone here would like to challenge me at some point, I would welcome the opportunity.

I never knew how to play backgammon, but I just looked up the basic rules and it seems really complex and fun. Where do you play online?

I seldom play online, so I don't have a preferred site. Yahoo comes to mind, but I seem to recall you saying earlier in this topic that you dislike Yahoo Games.

Ive been playing a few table top minis as well as Edge of the Empire the star wars pen and pad rpg...the table tops mainly consists of Axis and Allies:Angels 20 its WWII jetplane fighting game the minis have hex bases with different altitude settings its a simple d6 system the hardest part is getting the right rolls so you dont end up with a boogey on your 6 the starter is only like 30 bucks it comes woth all the cards and 6 planes i do believe as well as maps the next games ive been playing is X-wing this game has no map which is nice because you can control the playing area by playing on whatever size table you want and movement is determined via tiles the one down side is that it uses its own set of dice but i guess you could just tweak the rules to use like a d6 but whatever and the last is Edge which like i said pen an pad it also has its own dice set but our gm has been working in d20 & d10 rolls for narrative outcomes the rulebook for edge is now out and you can get a starter box which comes with a set of dice premade charachters and a premade campaign to help you get a feel for the game before investing in the actual core book if you enjoy p&p rpgs and you love star wars i suggest finding a group and trying it out ive been having truck loads of fun

Yeah $30 is just a bit too much.

Especially since those types of games get boring quick. $30 is on the edge of good board game territory.

Has anyone played Settlers of Catan? My board game buddies and I think we may need to move on from Risk on to something else.

I've not played the board game version but I have played the video game version and it's pretty good. I wish I could play the real version though (but doubtful I could find a good set of people to play)

If you like "war" games, you should check out the Game of Thrones board game. I enjoy it a lot.

Settlers of Catan was the game that got me into the "victory point" style of board games. It's good fun. I recommend it.

If you try it and like it, I would also suggest the Cities and Knights expansion. The rules can be a bit daunting at first, but once you get them down, you just can't go back to vanilla Catan.

Best game, or bestest game?

I saw this advertised and got excited for a bit. It's basically Apples to Apples but Princess Bride style. Which is kind of cool but seems a bit too silly for that price tag.

So this is old but a few weeks ago Puffin and I finally opened a board game I got years ago called Elfenland and it was actually pretty fun. I'm looking forward to one day having more people to play with so it'll be even more fun. (It's strategic, and while you can be successful with only two people, more people allow strategy to actually come into play instead of just luck.)

I'll play any board game once. Here's a list of what I have played:

Aggravation

Sorry!

Monopoly

Candyland

Life

Battleship

Operation

Checkers

Chess

Guess Who?

Stratego

Clue

Pictionary

Trouble

Hungry Hungry Hippos

Perfection (not sure if this actually counts)

Mouse Trap

Hi Ho! Cheery-O

Don't Wake Daddy

Don't Break the Ice

Rummikub

Scrabble

Battleship

At first I thought I hadn't played very many, but this is what I could remember. I'm sure I'm missing some. My childhood was pretty awesome.
