Ekans also likes Rummikub, which is very fun.

Indeed it is. My brother-in-law taught us that one. My brother takes too long with his turns though (then again, he does that with most games we play).

Ekans used to have a friend who did that, so we started timing his turns and if he took more than five minutes he lost his turn, and if he'd already laid tiles he'd lose his next turn. The rules say you only get two minutes for a turn though.

Also, Ekans thinks if we all like Scrabble so much we should organize a Literati game some time.

A bunch of the MPers used to play Scrabble on Facebook a lot.

Which was great because of the fact that you don't all have to be on at the same time. The games take a little longer, yes, but usually people get bored half way through Scrabble anyways.

But Ekans hates Facebook. Also: How does a game of Scrabble end? Ekans doesn't remember.

It's been a while since I last played, but I believe the game ends when one person uses up all of their letters, and there are none left in the bag to replace them. Then I think the other players lose some points for the tiles they haven't used.

It also ends for various other reasons. I know Invince knows more.

Anything that involves me using Java is hateful.

Ekans finds that, while Java certainly has it's downfalls, it's generally more stable than online Flash games. Though not by much.

In fact, online games suck.

Just learned how to play Puerto Rico yesterday and played my first game of it this afternoon. It's not as complicated as something like Cities & Knights of Catan, but it has a ton of pieces to keep track of. I loves it. Unfortunately, we were playing my brother and sister-in-law's copy (I don't own the game), and they were only visiting for a day and a half. =(

I so very want to reverse engineer the game in Flash, but...no time for it.

Well, I say it's not too complicated, but I'm not sure I can prevent any description of it from getting really long. =p

Puerto Rico is made for 3-5 players. Each player gets their own small game board for keeping track of all their properties, colonists, goods, money, and victory points.
There are 7 different "roles" for players to choose from each round (Settler, Trader, Mayor, etc.). When a role is chosen, each player takes the action associated with it (eg, gain new colonists with the Mayor role), but the player who chose the role gets a small bonus (eg, the Builder gets a discount on new buildings).
One of the main things you're trying to do is produce goods. To do this you need to have plantation tiles (Settler role) and the matching production buildings (Builder role), and both of these need to have a colonist assigned to them (Mayor role). Goods are harvested when someone picks the Craftsman role. Goods are traded for dubloons with the Trader role or exported for victory points with the Captain role. For more than 3 players, there is also a Prospector role which simply gives free dubloons to whoever picks it. All the roles give a player bonus dubloons if they have not been used for at least one round.
There are also a dozen or so buildings that can give special bonuses like extra plantations, colonists, or dubloons when the right roles are played.
The game ends when all colonists are being used, someone has all of the building spots on their board filled, or there are no more victory point chips (the first one is the most likely to happen). The winner is determined by victory points, which are gained from exported goods, buildings, and bonuses gained from "large" buildings (which serve no function beyond giving loads of extra points at the end of the game).
