Had my first Pop Lit class today. Turns out that we will be specifically covering detective fiction, and as such there will be nine novels for us to read this semester. Oy vey.

We'll be reading Murder at the Vicarage (Christie, though it's a Miss Marple rather than a Poirot, which is disappointing) and The Sign of Four (Doyle).

Ohhhhhhh The Sign of Four is one of my favourite Holmes stories.

Shame you're not reading And Then There Was None, that was always my favourite Christie novel when I was a kid.

Are you going to read Maltese Falcon or anything?

Yes, actually. The full list of books we'll be reading (and the sub-genres or topics they cover) is:
Lady Audley's Secret (sensation fiction)
The Sign of Four (the "scientific" detective)
Murder at the Vicarage (the "Golden Age" of detective fiction)
The Maltese Falcon (hard-boiled detective fiction)
The Big Sleep (style is substance)
The Laughing Policeman (police procedurals)
The Daughter of Time (the detective novel critiques history)
The Talented Mr. Ripley (thrillers and psychopaths)
City of Glass (the detective lost in a maze)

I've seen a movie adaptation of And Then There Were None, but I've never read it. Actually, I don't think I've never read any of Agatha Christie's books, only seen the films (Death on the Nile is one of my favorites).

Monday
Abnormal Pysch 5:30- 6:45pm

Tuesday
Military Fitness 8-9:15am
Animal Ethology (Behavior) 9:30- 10:45am

Wednesday
Abnormal Pysch 5:30- 6:45pm

Thursday
Military Fitness 8-9:15am
Animal Ethology (Behavior) 9:30- 10:45am

So obviously I'm trying to get into the abnormal psych class on Tue/Thurs so I only have to go to shcool 2 times a week instead of 4. And that would be from 12:30 to 1:45 so I'd have a nice block of classes close together all on tues/thurs. That would be perfect. Let's see if at least one of those 264 students stuffed in that hall drops so I can get in. =D

Well that's always fun.
I should try to take that when I go to college cuz I want to be the very best a kickass psychologist.

The Maltese Falcon (hard-boiled detective fiction)

Man, I've always wanted to read some hard-boiled detective fiction. Ever since Discworld Noir. Which I recently re-acquired. So any recommendations would be, well...awesome. :yup:

Eh so the first week is pretty much over. I don't have a clue why Linear Algebra is so friggin' difficult for me. The entire class seems to be struggling with the material as well, but a decent chunk seems to be sliiightly better at understanding everything. I just bombed my quiz today..blech. I redeemed myself though by being the only one in the entire class to figure out, answer correctly, and interpet the results of a complicated applied linear algebra word problem. *sigh* I need to use this weekend to get ahead just so I can stay afloat.

On the plus side, it's reaaally nice being one of the only two first-years in this class. The maturity level is a perfect match for my own.

In highschool I thought I wanted to be a psychologist. Then I took AP psychology. It focused a great deal on (simple) biochemistry- you know, the brain, ganglia, the pituitary, and stuff like that. I guess I liked psychology because I wanted to know more about motivations and predicting human behavior and it was pretty much none of that.

And it turns out I want to keep my M/W evening class. Easy to wake up for and this section is a lot easier than the other one I wanted to get into. NO TESTS, just using clickers to answer questions/prove my attentance and online quizzes. Besides, it gives me a reason to get out of the house on those days. I figure at the very least I'll go to the gym (and utilize their hot tub, steam room, and sauna) the afternoons before the class. Looking to find some MMA dojo or boxing club to join and have some fun while getting in shape too, but who knows what I'll find.

^Intro Psych is just an introduction to all the different branches and related fields. Upper-level psychology and sociology classes relate to motivations, emotions, and things of that sort in a more specialized way (what you're interested in).

Well there's that, and the fact that a lot of people get a degree in psychology and... don't do much with it. It's actually a vergy commonly held degree.

Well there's that...

Wait, what? What's "that" and why is it preventing you from taking the psychology classes you want to take?

...and the fact that a lot of people get a degree in psychology and... don't do much with it. It's actually a vergy commonly held degree.

So because it's a popular degree you would rather not major in it?

i had my first fundamentals of speech class the other night...its one of those classes.... it was totally boring because the teacher was forcing us all to introduce ourselves and talk about something significant we had done, but nobody wanted to talk so there was this awkward silence in between everyone. then when someone would say something, the teacher would make it more awkward by trying to relate it to her own life, but going off on tangents and talking about stuff nobody cares about, like how her and her husband watch rome on hbo, but how she doesnt remember if its hbo or starz or if they got it from netflix, but then how it must have been hbo because it was on late at night and there wasnt any dvd to returnblahblahblahblahshutupyoudumbbitch.

so to pass the time i drew a turtle singing opera about how it has tanlines.

yeah... dropped my bio class because my abnormal pysch was going to be easier and the class was slow. it was going over old stuff, like proximate and ultimate causes and the teacher... just talked slowly and went over things slowly, but that's probably cuz she's old as... well, who can guess, ladies never tell you, even when they have wrinkles all over. Seriously, it was going over the same things through the class, as if to make sure you got it the second or eleventh time. >.>

And the class grade was all tests and somehow a 100 pt disussion grade for a totall of 500 pts. the other class was all attendance and online quiz grades.

Also, have 7 or more credit hours makes me pay in-state tutition which would add $4k. omgwtfihatestupidshitkaklfjolaj

so yeah, hoorah for military fitness (or else I wouldn't go to the gym often enough) and abnorm psych. kdsjfklajsdkljaksdjfkdsja

Certainly better than average, but I'll have help there. I got me a gym membership and have been going regularly and I have the military fitness class again to make sure I get stuff done.

Really the only problem I'll encounter is how tough it is to make the run times. Running's a bitch. >.>
