congratulations. you are now qualified to do whatever it is that you go to school to do. if that was my class, i would be pissed that im paying tuition to go make paper airplanes.

Since today was pretty much just introductions and syllabus stuff, this was supposed to show us why it's important to make good lab write-ups.
EDIT: Also the teacher likes xkcd.

Dude, you signed up to an art class. And you were shocked that they were doing close analysis on works of art? What were you expecting?i had my first intro to art class tonight, and i am absolutely incompatible with it. my teacher, as well as most of the people in the class, are touchy/feely/thinky artfags that are just waaaaay too into it. maybe im just more of a renoir than an o'keefe, but when i look at a work of art, i dont scour every bit of it to try to extract whatever i can to make sense of it. we had to watch this video that compared these two artists, and the guy who was presenting the first one was a total weenus. he would look at the work, and say how the reflective surface of the metal forces us to reflect upon ourselves, and notice the shadows all around us, and how they reflect in the environment, and how theres a bird, and a wheel in all the works somewhere, and that they all have meaning and significance. all i freaking see is that animal+wheel=art. i know i'm fantastically shallow, and i dont post in the art forum specifically because i dont understand art. but the best part is the extra credit we get to do. our teacher wants us to bring in samples of our own work to discuss and present to the class. i fully intend to bring in absolutely every meaningless, frivolous, poorly composed 10 minute photoshop ive ever done, including the ones i posted in /m/, and letting my idiot classmates and teacher assign meaning and significance to them, through what they think they see.
I haven't been given my timetable yet but looks like I'm enrolled in the following modules for next semester:
American Culture (lols) and Critical Theory
Cultural Theory and Analysis
Power and Society
And the following semester:
Language and Politics
Politics and Mass Media
The Media and Identity
They screwed up my modules and gave me American Culture and Critical Theory instead of the module I wanted called Teenage Kicks: American Music Subculture.
I wanted orange. It gave me lemon-lime...
