I have actually been trying to figure out how to write a story about MonkeyPro. I kind of wanted to do a video about streets for VICE based on the news story where he was stopped walking around the city dressed up in militia gear and wielding a machine gun. But there's not quite enough there for a story.

I'm not sure that would work on its own. I could broaden the scope to talk about how the Internet is fostering a new generation of far-right politics and then I could interview streets and bring up some of the stuff he's posted and ask him how the Internet has informed his thinking. Really I want to go out and try and recruit people to his militia and talk to the people he talks to get their reactions.

 

I'm just not sure though, it feels like it needs more substance. Anybody here watch VICE? What would VICE do with this story?

run the whole thing like a "real" news org would cover isis fanatics. the shocking expose on how the "threats" we face are everyday people and could be absolutely anyone. then write a bunch of really defamatory stuff comparing him to ted kacynski. then, before he can sue you, make a deal to split the publicity $ in secret and retire.

From the VICE I've watched, and this is only me, it'll be a guy interviewing locals asking what they think and the interviewer will make obscure facial expressions regardless whether it's the dumbest response or the most insightful one. That or they'll of course find a way to interview everyone with accents I cannot understand.

I like Kasper's idea of renting a house. That way we all can live together, like The Real World, and break off to talk to a camera about how crazy the others are. How cool would that be for an awards show?

Can anyone confirm if airplane tickets are truly cheaper if you do buy them way in advance? I've heard talk about it, but have et to see any evidence for it. We could easily stay away from major holidays, any travel is cheaper then.

As far as kids go we have options. Babysitters/family does help with that. Otherwise toting kids around isn't so bad. It's done everyday, so what's another day or so? I can only speak for myself there. I have no idea what other people's situations are. Oh and I'm sure all of us can request time off or input vacation time.

Again this would all be in advance. I really think this would be successful if we set a time and place. Enough time to request time from work, save money, work out travel etc.
