I finished Treasure Island and moved onto The Princess Bride, which I finished last night. I really, really enjoyed The Princess Bride, but that probably goes without saying.

Next, I'm reading Phantom Tollbooth, which Stars gave me when he visited. :D

Just so it counts for the weekly update, I'm still gradually making my way through The Fires of Heaven.

Golden Apples of the Sun by Red Bradbury. In the last two weeks I've finished: Fahrenheit 451 and the Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, A Libertarian Critique of Intellectual Property by Butler Shaffer, and Anatomy of the State by Dr. Murray N. Rothbard. I highly recommend Rothbard's book. It's short and is a wonderful explanation of the state's control tactics.

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Finished Phantom Tollbooth in, like a day. Then I read Star-Crossed, which was... surprisingly morose. I didn't mind it, it just took a different turn in tone than I was expecting.

Gonna be reading Rogues next, a collection of short stories by a variety of fantasy authors. It's also gigantic, so it'll probably take me a while to get through.

I've mentioned the Fringe references hidden in some of the My Little Pony comics before, but this one just starts with an Observer straight up quoting the show. I could not continue reading without first making this fact known.

EDIT: Dear writers of the MLP cartoon, please take notes from the writers of the MLP comics and make Celestia and Luna into proper characters. Thank you.

Finished Golden Apples of the Sun by Ray Bradbury. I'm now reading The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality and Bureaucracy both by Ludwig Von Mises.

If you want a little libertarianism in your science fiction, you should give the works of Jerry Pournelle a shot.

Still reading the Fate of the Jedi series (up to Backlash, which is book 4). It was a great conversation starter last night.

"Who's reading the Star Wars book?"

"Me"

"What do you think about Disney taking over?"

And then every nerd in the room jumped in. Haha.

What room were you in?

If you were reading in your bedroom... were you talking to yourself?

Nope, I was at a bar.

A closed bar.

With no alcohol being served.

Because it was part of a film shoot. ;)

I'm reading The Failure of the 'New Economics' by Henry Hazlitt which reminds me of this:

Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle That Defined a Generation.

I always enjoy stories that look at the people of the event. It's also nice that neither side is being made the villain. They're both just companies being led by people who are trying to do what they think is best.

I've been reading nothing but comic books lately, which is strange, because as much as I've always loved super heroes, I never got in to comics. They were always that thing that was just out of reach (due to price). I decided to pay for a month of Marvel Unlimited (kind of like a netflix for Marvel Comics). I've read through Joss Whedon's run of The Astonishing X-Men, and as many comics as were available for the original Onslaught storyline from X-Men (a storyline I was fascinated with in the 90's, but alas, no monies).

It's a really difficult thing to jump in to comic books, it seems. So much continuity non-sense and back stories that are difficult to decipher. Where do you begin? I don't know if I'll keep this subscription, but it has been pretty engaging for the last few weeks.

Hey. All of you Scott Pilgrim fans. Go read Seconds, by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It's not at all like his Scott Pilgrim series, but it's awesome. A bit confusing, with all of the 'revisions' that take place during the story, but well worth the read. Also, if you like folklore, it is totally your thing.
