I'm reading two chapters from The Mammoth Book of Pirates (which is not actually particularly big). Why only two chapters? Because it contains two chapters from Captain Charles Johnson's A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates that I'm referencing in an essay. The rest I don't really need to read at this point.

Just read the leaked chapters for the last two Naruto chapters, due out in Japan on Monday.

Lot of predictable stuff happened. NaruHina, SasuSaku, ShikaTem, SaiIno, etc become canon. Kakashi is 6th Hokage, Naruto is 7th. Naruto and Hinata have two kids, one whose name is "Boruto".

 

Predictable stuff, but I mean, it's stuff you want to see to end a manga that took 15 years to complete

 

I've been watching the anime for years, and I also read the manga. It's been a staple of my week, every Wednesday or Thursday, I'd read the new leaked chapter, and wait to see what happens next.

 

Now that it's over, I feel both extremely happy it ended how I wanted it to, and that it left before I began to dislike it (unlike One Piece), but sad that the official story is over. There will be plenty of offshoots and spinoffs, I'm sure, and there's still one more movie out, but it's still sad to think that a story I've been following since I was much much younger is now finally ending.

 

It's surreal. I never thought it would end. But here I am, an hour removed from reading the last two chapters.

 

I don't read much, so this will be one of my first, last, and only posts in this thread.

I've lost track of how long this final confrontation has been going on. It makes DBZ feel short.

Someone is about to die, and Sakura is trying to keep him alive despite having almost no chakra left for healing. So what does she do? Naturally she slices a hole in his side so that she can shove her hand inside his chest and manually pump his heart. Ignoring the fact that this is exactly what chest compressions are for, and worse, that she just ruined one of his lungs.  Yay medical ninjas. =/

In terms of long running mangas though, I think Berserk's just being a cocktease at this point.

I liked the ending (699), but the epilogue (700) honestly left me feeling more empty than anything.

 

For starters, skyscrapers in Konoha, the advent of more technology (there was already a bit of tech, though it was rare, and only used in special cases, like for the Chunin Exams and talk between the daimyo), and in general, a less "ninja" looking world.

 

NaruHina is awesome. Their kids are not so awesome. Boruta (hahahahahahahahahaha) and Himawari (I had to go to the wiki to find her name, because it is hard for me to remember a name so different like that one).

 

SasuSaku, while expected, is a tad disappointing for some reason. It just seems too fairytaleish that they end up together, despite all evidence saying it would be a bad idea. Plus, their daughter's name is Sarada (which apparently translates out to Salad, and she looks more like Karin than Sakura. Cheating subplot? ;D)

 

ShikaTema makes me happy. More than one can possibly know. Their son is a little shit from the looks of it.

 

SaiIno was pretty meh. Their son/daughter/it is freaking creepy as shit.

 

Who the frig had a kid with Rock Lee? Tenten? I need answers.

 

ChojiKarui came out of fucking nowhere and I still don't get it. I'm happy for him, because everyone knows he gets shit on constantly.

 

Oh, and Anko got fat. That really disturbs me.

I did enjoy the reappearance of several old characters. I had completely forgotten about Konohamaru and his teammates.

 

I still don't quite understand why Kakashi became Hokage. I mean, why did Tsunade stop being Hokage? She's still around. And why did Kakashi step down? Just to allow Naruto to fulfill his dream, or is there now a term limit for the Kages that they failed to mention?

My understanding of why Tsunade stepped down, and Kakashi took over, was that Tsunade was just tired of being the Hokage. I mean, the past 2-3 years had basically been hell, it isn't surprising that all the people who were Kages during the war (minus Gaara) stepped down between the end of the war and when 700's epilogue took place. Onoki gave up the title to his daughter, A to his right hand man Darui, Tsunade to Kakashi, and (the one that surprised me the most) Mei gave way to Chojuro. Mei was the 2nd youngest, outside of Gaara, and she seemed to be doing fine, so her step down seemed more arbitrary.

 

As for why it was Kakashi, there just wasn't a better choice at the moment. Skipping him would have made no sense, and they needed a kage, even if it was an interim one.

 

And as for why he stepped down after only 10-15 or so years (my estimation), I think it was in part to allow his student to realize his dream and in part because he never really wanted to be a kage. His mind changed during the fight with Kaguya, but eventually, I think he realized that he could still carry on Obito's will and pass on the will of fire in his own way without the pressures of being a Kage. 

 

There's no term limit (if there was, Onoki would be long gone, as he'd been a kage for a frigging lifetime), though it's strange how short the past few Kages in Konoha's history have lasted. Hashirama and Tobirama I believe lasted a while in the position, and Hiruzen seemed to as well, but Minato's reign was short lived (for obvious reasons), Tsunade was only the Hokage for like 3-4 years (the 3 year timeskip plus however long it was between the timeskip and the end of the war), and Kakashi seemingly stepped down after about 10 years.
