I tried going through some more games to see if anything would stick and ehhh.

I played Persona 1 and jeez, I forgot how not good it is. I'm playing the PSP port and it's just so clunky when it comes to controls. The graphics are not very good, and the movement is weird. You have the normal antiquated dungeon crawling movement like in most old Shin Megami Games, but then you have just normal sprite movement, but everything is at an angle and movement is weird. Otherwise it's okay, but eh.

Also played Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and ugh. It's basically just a soulless Silver Star Complete. It doesn't really make it its own like Lunar Legends did, and I respected. It just guts SSC and makes everything worse. Voice acting is alright, except I don't like Nall. Graphics look super generic and some backgrounds are just less detailed than the pixel art would have been. Gameplay is slightly similar but worse, no more real running. Everyone is huge and battle areas are small and it's weird. It's just so weird and blah. I wish they would just put SSC on PSN so I could play that. Also Eternal Blue, which was my favorite (or remake/port that, that would be nice, too many SS ports/remakes).

Beat the fourth boss in Rogue Legacy yesterday, granting me access to the final boss. I took a swing at him just to see what I was up against. I actually did pretty well my first try (Hypergonadalism is amazing, apparently), but I didn't stand a chance without knowing his patterns. I'm grinding a bit for now, but I'll probably take another go at him if I get a Barbarian or Assassin with Hypergonadalism again.

You are one of the few I know who have played to this point of Rogue Legacy, so I'm actually curious to see if you felt the same I did once you started to get wicked strong.

You feeling the game becoming "easier" or do you think you are actually getting better at the game?

A bit of both. I've more or less learned what I can and cannot get away with, and I can pretty well avoid most attacks if I play cautiously. Beating the bosses seems to largely be a matter of learning how to get in hits while avoiding their attacks and being lucky with your choice of descendants (Peripheral Artery Disorder helped a ton with the fourth boss).

Having massive health and damage buffs definitely helps, but mostly I feel like my stats just let me get away with still playing somewhat recklessly. I sometimes find myself bulldozing through enemies to get to a chest if I have health to spare and don't have a particular goal in mind aside from Get All the Gold!

Just beat the final boss with a giant, endomorphic barbarian queen and four retribution runes. I am a little sad but also amused that the finishing blow was him hitting me with his sword.

EDIT: Wow, yeah, damn, NG+ is way harder all of a sudden. o.o

Yeah, part of why I took a short break. It's going to be a fun challenge, granted, but right now, I need to take it easy.

So I've switched to OOTP 14 and Kingdom Hearts: Re: Chain of Memories.

And I finished the "Sora Story" of Re:Chain of Memories

Impression - This is the worst game in the entire KH series. I already played it, so I knew that already, but oh my god, why did I do it again.

So I started the "Riku Story" and all I can think is how they took an already idiotic concept, and made it stupider by not letting you edit your deck.

So I'm slogging my way up Castle Oblivion's basement, and I think I finally understand the meaning of the game.

The meaning is rather simple.

There is no escape from Castle Oblivion. Even if you leave, one day, it'll creep back into your heart, and even though the battling system is completely terrible, you will keep coming back, simply because it's all you remember. Your true memories will float to the surface leaving you an enlightened husk. A shell of the person you once were.

That is Castle Oblivion's true power.

I really liked Chain of Memories when it first came out.

I mean I haven't in a while, and I don't know if comparably Re:Chain of Memories is worse (seems like it might be, because CoM worked well as a 2D game).

I mean, maybe it is the worst, but I wouldn't consider it bad? I liked it more than either of the DS games though.

Well, I played both the GBA game and the PS3 remake of the PS2 game, and I thought both were awful. (Though honestly, I'd say the console version was better than the handheld version for several reasons, chief among them being I don't need to strain my eyes to look at the screen, and I can get comfortable while playing. Also, to be fair, I never played any of the DS games, because I'm not a fan of handhelds, and didn't feel obligated to pick up a handheld for filler games in a series that isn't my favorite. So Chain of Memories/Re:Chain of Memories is just my least favorite of the 4 games I have played in the series.)

I never beat the GBA version because I was a kid, and had legit ZERO patience for the stupid card system. So I was actually thrilled to have a chance to finish it thanks to the 1.5 HD Remix.

And I came away remembering why I had zero patience for the card system, it's stupid, and goes against everything I like about Kingdom Hearts. I finished the "Riku Mode" (which I never started before, because again, I was a kid) and feel so insulted that to get to the best 10 hours of the game, you have to slog through 30 hours of awfulness before you realize that a sleight you got near the beginning of the game can just be spammed at literally every boss in the game including the final one.

TL;DR - I'm done with Chain of Memories forever, hallejuah.

I got to the cutscenes of 358/2 Days, which I never got to play, since it was a DS title, and I don't have a DS, and found sitting still for 2 1/2 hours listening to the story of Roxas and Organization XIII far more compelling than wrestling with CoM's card system. So glad they went back to a winning formula with the other games in the series.

Now I wait for Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix to come out, so I can relive my favorite game in the series, and finally get a chance to actually PLAY Birth By Sleep.

Until then though, tomorrow I start Hyperdimension Neptunia: Victory. I beat the first 2, and after this past week, I am really looking forward to something different!

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Well, I started Hyperdimension Neptunia: Victory, and I'm interested in it so far.

However, the football games came on, so I switched to the PC, and I'm also playing Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale.

I have to say I really like it so far, but I don't like how there's no "endless" mode from the start. It's all well and good to run an item shop, and it's pretty fun to dungeon crawl. But now the weekly payments are ridiculous. 200,000 pix? How on earth am I going to get that? I made MAYBE 120,000 last week, and barely paid off the 80,000 pix loan.

WHY ARE THEY MAKING A LIKE 12 YEAR OLD GIRL PAY OFF SUCH A STAGGERING DEBT? ARE THERE NO ORPHANAGES?

I remember once you figure out how that game works it gets really easy. I think one of the things you're supposed to do is never markup any thing since you'll make people hate you and not come or something. It's been a while though.

I don't know how I've been doing. It took me forever to sell that fucking very odd vase for any profit. I keep getting this stingy housewives and little girls in the store. I can't sell them anything since they have zero money on them.

I once offered to sell Candy to the little girl for like 50% of the list price. She said it was too expensive.

IF YOU HAVE NO MONEY DONT COME IN MY STORE!

ha.

I think part of the problem is you're initially charging them too much (which is hard to tell) then they'll just hate you and never buy anything from you unless you sell if for a super loss. It takes a bit to understand (and it really feels counter intuitive) but once you get a hang of it the item store stuff becomes a bit too easy.

Makes me want to play it again. I never beat it, I just got bored of it.

Well, as a rule of thumb I mostly sell things at about 120% of list price. The game reccommended in the sort of tutorial to do 130%, which I sometimes do with frequent customers.

I have also gotten the hang of the "buy low-sell high" thing. Buy a shit ton of stock when it's cheap or even normal price. Sell it when it's in the red. Otherwise, just hold onto it, and acquire more crap.

Essentially, buy crap until you can't buy crap, then sell it all at a 300% profit.

Yeah, that's too high. 120%. If I remember correctly you barely put any markup on things, since customer loyalty is way more important in that game.

I think it's too late in this run to learn that. Bah.

I mean, to be fair, that's a logical answer, and one I'd probably come up with in my second playthrough given how little progress you make by following the directions the game gives you.

I can't wait to just unlock Endless Mode so these deadlines aren't such a big deal. I really like the idea of dungeon crawling, and being able to progress without having to worry about paying back insanely high payments.

This weekend I've been playing Elder Scrolls Online BETA.

It has the potential of becoming the best MMORPG in years, and likly years to come, it all comes down how they release and market it.
