You could always join the Naval Reserve. 

 

But yeah, the National Guard isn't that terrible. It's not like you're joining the Army or Marines or something.

Nasty guard's not bad, a little income, meet lots of cool people. Hell, a lot of officers in the NG are businessmen, so you could possibly find a legit job. Plus, if you haven't paid of your student loans yet, which I suspect you haven't, they'll do that for you. You might even get a big cash bonus if you join the right MOS.

So, update on the previous comments made...

 

Sometime this summer, once things settle down (next month is crazy), my girlfriend and I are going to go see a NG recruiter.

 

There's no promise anything will happen, but I do intend to learn more about, and find what careers I could potentially pursue from them.

 

I am posting this here, more or less to ensure I do it, because I'd look awful shitty if I later said "nope, not bothering even looking", after this point.

really, i dont think ive ever had a job i had to be "qualified" for. nobody's ever asked me for my highschool diploma, or really any proof that i even graduated. i can't wait til i can tell my oops kid about the magic of getting their ged at 16, and dropping out.

Yeah, I realized I'm better off alone as well. My sanity is well worth the extra cost of a single vs. half-of-a-double.
