I miss working later on in the day. We (my team) recently decided we'd work from 7-4pm. I already disliked waking up early enough to be here at 8, but 7 is ugh. Especially in the winter. Especially since we're incredibly slow since most of our clients are not working yet I am (and not doing much, obviously).

I prefer getting work over with and having the afternoon/evening free to do whatever. Plus I'm less likely to get stuff done at home (like cleaning and sewing ponies) in the morning.

Usually when I wake up too early that means I'm going to nap later. So just more of my day is gone than usual. blah. It kind of is nice to get off earlier now, but my body is just not used to it yet.

Sudden change of topic. I just played the hypest game of Backgammon, and I feel a need to gloat.

(To win, in a nutshell, you have to get your 15 pieces into your home area, then move them off the board. Players move in opposite directions around the board. Captured pieces must reenter the board in the opponent's home area. Points are multiplied if the other player still has all of their pieces on the board when you finish [gammon], and they multiply further if the other player still has pieces in your home area [backgammon].)

I was playing a few sets with my dad this afternoon. In this particular game, I had four pieces back in his home area, and he was already taking pieces off the board. I left them there as long as possible while setting up a blockade with my other pieces in my home area. When he only had 7 pieces left to go, his dice roll forced him to leave a man vulnerable, and naturally I captured it. It took a while for him to get past my blockade, and by then I was moving pieces out of his home area, keeping them spread out to maximize my chances of recapturing his piece when it finally got out. A few turns later, he was forced to leave another man vulnerable, and I took that one too. Then a third piece a short while later. I kept these three pinned down for about 10 turns, moving my last pieces home while keeping his three subdued. He managed to capture a couple of my pieces, but it was easy to free them since his home area was so empty, and it just gave me more chances to retake any of his pieces that escaped. Then I managed to completely fill in my home area, and his captured pieces could not reenter until I opened up a hole for them. Then I recaptured them as needed since he couldn't move until all his pieces were free. By the time he finally got away, I had enough of a lead that he had no chance of catching back up. It had looked like my dad was going to score a backgammon (x3 points), but he was no match for my trickery and shenanigans.

tl;dr - I am a Backgammon beast.

I left a bunch of stuff out so that my "in a nutshell" wouldn't grow out of control. =p

It's not a very complicated game to learn though. My dad taught it to me when I was 7. It's basically our go-to activity when we want to do something together.

So, I just want some confirmation that i was in the right here.

My friend edited one of her friend's pictures on Facebook. I commented on that and said "Holy crap. She's cute. How do you know Anna Proffitt!?" Anna Proffitt, a friend of mine, had liked the picture. The girl and I started talking and apparently Anna is her cousin. Anna and I were classmates sooooo yeah. Anyways, that's not important. Things were going well and then suddenly she says that Hayley, the original friend, told her what I did to her and what kind of person I am and that she isn't interested in me. This isn't the first time this has happened. When I first met Hayley, I wasn't very nice to her at all and I manipulated her a lot and eventually we became pretty good friends. Hayley still thinks that I am a bad person because of that. So, whenever she realizes that I have interest in a girl, she rides in like death on a pale horse and puts the sickle to it.

I was understandably upset. Right? So, I messaged her and told her that I was upset with her and that she was acting irresponsibly due to the fact that she had no idea what my intentions were. Then she blew up at me and called me an asshole and that she wouldn't wish me on her worst enemy and that no girl deserves to be put through me. Then she blocked me on Facebook. This is the first time that I have told her she was in the wrong and wanted her to fix her mistake. From what I've gathered, people don't typically tell her that especially her family. She even brags that she gets what she wants eventually every time. Was I in the right on this or did I miss something?

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

I'm torn, because I have an ex-girlfriend like that, who I treated poorly (I was also 15, so cut me some slack).

On the one hand, I believe one should be punished appropriately for past mistakes. In this case, you are being punished.

On the other, it's not fair if you've actually changed.

In the end, I don't think it matters if you are right or wrong. Explain yourself if you feel the need to, and if it's not good enough for people, then hey, it's not going to be worth the uphill battle. She sounds a little spoiled (Hayley) but I don't think her "getting her way" is the focus here. I think the focus is more that she's looking out for her friend's cousin (I'm confused, how is she related at all to Hayley? The girl you were interested in that is.)

Girls like that (Hayley) can be the worst. I don't dare date any of my ex's friends/relatives now, because I know full well the horror stories she'd tell the girl. I expand my search elsewhere. Thank god for the internet.

Anyway, I apologize if this is somewhat offensive or something, I've had a long depressing day, and my speech is a little messy right now. Brain is all scrambled.

It's all good. Emma (the girl I was interested in) is the cousin of Anna. Emma is the friend (although it's more like just a Facebook friend) of Hayley's. Hayley knows a heck of a lot of girls. Like a crazy amount and all in my stomping grounds. So, yes, there are a good deal of other girls, but it seems to me that this is going to be a continuing problem that will rear its ugly head from time to time.

If it's going to be a continuous problem, the best advice I can give is to confront it, but not be aggressive about it. Talk to who you like, and if it rears it's head, explain what happened, why it happened, and let your actions speak louder than your words. And if you are being a good person, and people continue to think you are terrible, then is it worth fighting them over it? Let them think what they want, and don't let it change who you want to speak with. If that makes sense.

Key is not to get angry over it and let emotions take over, last thing you want is for their issue to be justified. Control and patience are wonderful things here.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

That reminds me of the time J.J. Abrams gave a spur-of-the-moment press conference and the only thing that came out of his mouth was a lens flare.

My least favorite part of the holiday season is when someone gives me a Walmart gift card.

It's like, thanks, I'm grateful and all, because money is cool.

But Walmart sucks, what on Earth could I possibly buy there? Their games are way overpriced, their clothes are shit, and I'm not a little kid, so toys aren't in my area of interest.

Will they let you buy a gift card for someplace you will go with your Walmart gift card?
