Since I forgot to mention, I thought that the novel On Stranger Tides was fantastic. Seriously. It is the pirate adventure that the Pirates movies wish they could have been (and yes, I do think that they are mostly good movies).

I finished Bike Snob a couple of days ago, and haven't started anything new since. I might get in to some of the non fiction business books I have lying around...

I'll have to give On Stranger Tides a read at some point.

As for what I'm currently reading, I'm a bit over half finished with Mogworld. It's not as un-put-downable as the Dresden books, but I do so love satiric fantasy stories.

Just finished Mogworld, and I must say that it was thoroughly entertaining.

Now to decide what to read next. I'm thinking of either resuming The Lightning Thief or starting Mockingjay.

EDIT: Actually, I just remembered that I'm borrowing Logan's Run, so I ought to read that first.

Looks like I'm even more late to the party.

Quite an epic tale. I'm actually only halfway through Catching Fire, but I plan to rectify that immediately.

I still haven't gotten to it...
I finished Logan's Run a few days ago. It was pretty good, although a number of things weren't very well explained. And the surprise character reveal at the end was badly set up. But I'm still glad I read it, if only to say I have (for the nerd cred, I guess).

I've had The Lightning Thief set out on my nightstand for a couple of days since then, but I haven't read any more of it yet. Been busy with vidja games.

I finished reading The Last Time I Was Me, by Cathy Lamb a few days ago. I love Lamb's books very much. She has this interesting style of writing that allows me to connect to the characters really easily, and it's fun to read her works.

Since finishing that, though, I haven't been able to decide what to read...though I'm currently looking at starting one of the two books I just bought at a convention.

What did you think of Mockingjay?

EDIT: (I suppose my main question is: How prominent is the silly love triangle?)

I didn't really like Mockingjay. And I'm "Team Neither". Sooo yeah.

Edit: I should say, I understood why Mockingjay exists, but I didn't enjoy how they went about pretty much anything.

Yeah, so I just finished the series right about now, and I have to agree. I found it quite underwhelming. It's as if she got tired of writing. Most of the scenes cut straight into other scenes, with very little transition.

In retrospect, I think all three books could have been condensed into one much more interesting book, or at most two books. I have to say the first book was definitely the best. The other two were mostly filler. Predictable filler at that. The first half of Catching Fire was pretty boring, along with most of Mockingjay.

Just finished American Gods by Neil Gaimen. Fantastic, and fitting a theme I've unintentionally been following in my reading.

Vicious, I'm stealing your resolution to read a book every week. Except I'm almost four months behind now, so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

I'm starting with Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture by Douglas Coupland. Bean recommended it to me, probably 100 years ago, but I never got around to reading it. So far it's pretty hip.

I started reading The Hunger Games the other day, because I have owned the books for a while and just let them sit.

It sure is entertaining, but the writing itself is atrocious. Even if you blame it on the first person narrator, it's still bad. But damn is it entertaining.

Just finished reading The Magicians, by Lev Grossman. My friend lent it to me for the ride back to school, and is having book 2 shipped up to her at some point, so I'll probably read that when it gets here. It was an interesting read, though it got a bit boring from time to time.

Probably going to start reading the first book in the Game of Thrones series, since they've been sitting around in my room for ages now and I never got around to them.

The Disappeared: A Retrieval Artist Novel by Kristine Kathryn Rusch

I'm 11 chapters in and it's some of the most interesting sci-fi I've experienced in a long time. Which was needed, after the let down that was Mass Effect 3.

I read Franny and Zooey and watched The Royal Tenenbaums pretty much back to back and did not realize how similar parts of both are.

Thinking about rereading the Harry Potter books. Or some more Salinger if I can get those from the library.

How did you get on with this? I read it when I was at the height of my mystical drug vision quest days, wandering the foothills of the Himalayas, so my memory of its contents are a little fuzzy. I do remember finding a lot of comfort and solace in its depiction of American culture. Also, I found out today that HBO are adapting it into a TV series and Gaiman himself is scripting it. Promising beans!

I have been reading the Journeyer very, very slowly. Reading a chapter and then not touching it for a couple of weeks because of the looming menace that is my dissertation deadline. Definitely a beautifully constructed narrative from what I've read so far. Wish I had more to say about it, but I think it's still too early for me to comment on too much.
