So, let's talk about E3, k? I missed most of the Bethesda conference, but since they didn't announce a new Elder Scrolls, I mean, a real new Elder Scrolls, I don't feel so bad about that. Fallout 4 looks swell enough, though.

I'm currently watching the Microsoft conference. I think we're nearly at the end. Some thoughts:

  • Halo still looks boring as all get out. I don't think even Nathan Fillion can save it.
  • So do most of the exclusive first party titles.
  • That new controller looks like it's going to take away some of the thunder from the Steam controller. This is equal parts good and bad.
  • Mods for Fallout 4 on a console? Neat.
  • The indie game presentation was pretty exciting, actually. Some neat looking things in there.
  • My favorite part was the Day Z creator talking about how he doesn't want scripted games, and his presentation is immediately followed up by the heavily scripted Tomb Raider game play reveal. Nicely done.
  • Rare Replay. Neat.
  • I will update as more things happen.
  • Forgot to list it sooner, but the backwards compatibility is pretty nice, I suppose. For those who can take advantage of it.
  • Fable still does nothing for me. I really disliked the first game, so to hecks with that.
  • Recore looks promising. Keiji Inafune and dudes from Retro studios? Yes, please. Here's the hoping for a PC version.
  • So apparently if you have an X-Box or a PC, you're completely covered for VR gaming. Wonder how Morpheus is going to stack up to that.
  • Spaz just totally geeked out over the Holo Lens/Minecraft demo. I wonder what potential the holo lens has for other forms of table top gaming?
  • New gears of war is... well, gears of war. I hope it's titled: Gears of War: Physics.
  • I also forgot to mention Ashen, which I really, really, really hope comes to PC.

Final thought on the Microsoft conference: Much better than the last few years. First party action games still don't look very interesting, at all, but there's definitely a lot going for the system. Holo Lens, indie games, and backwards compatibility are cool.

Recore does sound neat. And any reason to acknowledge the existence of Blast Corps is a win.

However despite how cool backwards compatibility is, It's pretty frustrating that Microsoft kept saying it wouldn't happen and then it did happen. It just feels not honest to me, in order to keep 360 sales. It also sucks for people who would have been willing to trade in their 360s or even bought a 360 since X1 wouldn't have backwards compatibility. blah.

Yeah, it seems silly. Even a simple, "We're working on it, but it might not happen," would have helped prevent it from feeling sleazy.

I think there were several neat-looking games, but not enough to make me consider buying an Xbox. Same as usual.

I'm still really sad that Tomb Raider is going to be Xbox exclusive, but I heard somewhere that it'll eventually go to Playstation, so that just means I have more time to finally buy a PS4.

I confess to geeking out about the holo lens demo as well (though I could see him making some motions that didn't match up with any movements, so it's clearly still under construction at least a bit).

Beyond Eyes looked pretty cool! As did whatever game was the one to have a computer called "Odin" in it (I missed the title). And of course Dark Souls III.

I'm watching the twitch stream VP linked me to so I kind of have no idea how to watch any of the others. Twitch players are showing off some random game? IDK. I liked the app game they just showed off though.

I'll probably end up watching the Super Best Friends' Let's Watch of the major presentations. There's not likely to be any news I can't wait a couple extra days for, considering I'm still on previous-gen consoles.

Same here... I just happen to have time on my hands right now. XD And I'm always looking for more reasons to finally nab a PS4.

EA's press conference in 25 minutes. Expect a whole lotta Battlefield, Sportselfield, maybe parachutebioware, maybe clown care.

  • Opening with new Mass Effect? OK, fine, I'm paying attention.
  • Need for Speed looks like a game about cars. I guess that's a thing.
  • The Old Republic is getting some newness for the remaining 12 subscribers.
  • Unravel is kinda cute, if a bit little big Planet inspired.
  • EA said that we would be getting videos of new IP. We got unravel, so yay? But now it's a new Plants vs. Zombies. Uh... Well OK.
  • Now we're talking about something called a "sports." I don't know what this is, and it looks boring.
  • I'm literally laughing out loud that EA are making a mobile collectable card game. Bethesda will have one, EA will have one. I want ubisoft to announce one for Assassin's Creed or something.
  • And the stream is starting to die right as they're getting in to mirror's edge. This sucks.
  • Came back in time to watch the trailer. Sweet.
  • Now another one of those "sports" things. Eh.
  • Star Wars Battle Front looks like Star Wars Call of Duty. I guess some people might like that.

So EA is all done now. It was better than I expected, but I really didn't expect much of anything. New Mass Effect and New Mirror's Edge do fill me with happiness, though.

Final thought: I hope that the Mass Effect trailer is implying that you can make your own music play lists while you explore the galaxy. I can't imagine a better feature.

Why does EA even need to announce sports stuff?

I've updated my post with better formatting and links to as many videos as I cared to find. At first I thought the EA presentation would be the least interesting, and it may yet be, but then I remembered that Ubisoft will have a conference soon enough.

Before it gets started, I have just one thing to say:

Dear Ubisoft,

I know you want me to have and use Uplay, but it sucks. But I will use it without hesitation if I'm using it to play a new Beyond Good and Evil. I won't even be mad.

Sincerely,

VP

I wasn't either, but I just happened to look at the stream just as they were starting it, and I'm very glad I did.

Missed the beginning of Ubisoft's conference due to sick children. Not sure what I missed. Aisha Tyler again, and everybody likes her, so that's OK.

  • New south park game is south park. OK.
  • Aisha Tyler is drunk.
  • The For Honor trailer was cinematic.
  • For Honor creative director is also drunk.
  • Everybody but Bethesda so far have had a game about cars. I guess people like cars?
  • The Trials Fusion trailer was drunk.
  • The Division must be a fantasy game, because nobody plays like that. Not enough racism or tea bagging.
  • That's more like it. Inevitable but predictable betrayal. Now it's a video game.
  • So this generation of gaming shows that space is the new black. This should make me happy. This does make me happy. Anno in SPAAAAAAAACE.
  • Aisha, I have a meme I want to pitch: you're drunk.
  • I think this is a game called Just Dunce. I'm sure I would be laughed at in most places for admitting that I have no idea who this singer is.
  • The Rainbow Six Seige trailer wasn't interesting. Those kinds of trailers aren't interesting for movies, and they're doubley not interesting for games. Though, I think I can get behind any game where you're a member of a team called Rainbow.
  • I wish this demo felt less scripted...
  • More cars. Cynicism aside, track mania looks kinda fun, though a bit noisy.
  • The carriage driver in assassin's creed was clearly drunk.
  • I hope the new assassin's creed has Jason Statham. I feel like it has to.
  • Made me think I was going to get my wish for a minute there....
  • Nope, Ghost Recon. OK?
  • I think that Ubisoft should have made a Tom Clancy collectible card game.

Did you play Stick of Truth?

It was really really good. If they just improve on that I'm going to be really excited for this new game.
