So, who's ready?! :D
I know I'm not!
But maybe this will help with my writer's block a little bit...?
It got me through the most boring part of Dragon Maps last year...

I was totally going to start at the stroke of midnight, but it turns out I am dead tired from consistently working mornings this week. Ended up watching a video of a bunch of writers at a con talking about magic instead. But I have the day off tomorrow, so after I finish sleeping in, I am going to be very busy...figuring out how to begin my story.

+127 words so far! What's so great about 127 words, you may ask? Several things!
(1) It's the first words I've added to my story in...a long while. Probably since June...
(2) It finally started a section that I so far only had the middle for!
(3) It connected to said section!
I'm probably going to try and write more in a bit, but for now, catching up on the Amazing Race. Aka yay excuses!

I'm off to a slow start, but words have been written. Beginning a thing is the hardest part for me, so I expect my pace will pick up in short order.
It's been maybe 6 years since I last tried to write a story, so this is rather exciting.

I'm off to a good start with 1256 words, though I wish I could have made 1600 before going to sleep last night. I'm gonna try and make it to about 3000 words today, but we'll see if that actually happens.
Edit: if anyone wants to keep a crazy schedule like I am (trying to), this is a handy wallpaper calendar.
Edit 2: Reached 4094 words. Fuck. Yeah. Now it's time to study so I don't fail my history exam...

That wallpaper is cool and inspiring. I'm proud of all of you guys, so keep working! Spare a couple minutes for a brief synopsis of your stories?

The idea for my story came from my bafflement at something that occasionally happens in RPGs and such. Whenever some great evil being is "sealed away for a thousand years," it seems like both the sealing and the breaking free happen in medieval fantasy land, with little to no progression of technology, economy, government, or anything else over the course of a millennium. As such:
Centuries ago, a band of heroes sealed away a dark sorcerer who was trying to attain immortality. Now, in the modern day, he has broken free of his magical prison, and he wants revenge against the descendants of the heroes who sealed him. When people begin to mysteriously disappear, a new band of heroes must rise to the occasion and put a stop to the sorcerer's plans once again.
I'm trying to avoid tropes such as, "You must stop him because it is your destiny!" In this case it's more like, "You must stop him because if you don't, he's going to experiment on you, then kill you, then probably experiment on you some more!"

^ Which is a kick ass concept. I still really like how the new band of heroes are really just those few descendants who have managed to evade being killed by the big bad, since most of those things do ignore that after many centuries, one person is going to have countless living descendants.
I'm working on the second half of the first book of Arcane. I'm kinda hoping I can push myself to finish it this month or at least get substantially closer.
It's about a thief who is trying to collect every piece of a magical and powerful map before her insane and murderous brother can. All the while she has to drag around a trio of kids, who all have an abundance of identity issues and are trying their best to keep up with her and not be completely useless. But this has nothing to do with the second half, as the brother is not actually insane or murderous, the trio of kids have found their roles within the group dynamic and the thief... she's still trying to collect those map pieces, but is having difficulty identifying who she can trust to keep her secret.

You mean like what I almost did when I first told you about the idea? xp Thanks again for pointing that out at the time.

Wait, was I the one who pointed it out? I don't think I was. I just remember you going, 'yeah, so I researched this thing and apparently after this span of time, there would be thousands of descendents and I don't know what to do with them...' and I made a number of suggestion, one of which might have been killing off some of the descendents, but I don't really remember.

I don't even remember. It feels like it's been a good while since I first came up with the idea. At the very least, maybe just talking about the story to someone helped me see that flaw early on.

I really do like your concept, and it was fun that time you were explaining some of the characters to me, Stars. :)
Like Puffin, I'm working on the first book of Arcane - except I'm basically still in the first half, because I am lame and haven't written nearly as much as her.
The synopsis for the half I'm working on involves an entirely different cast than what she's doing. I also don't have a super awesome summary like she does (ps, Puffin, that really is a kick-ass way of explaining your part).
In a world filled with hundreds upon thousands of people, it's hard to find who you are, what makes you unique...And one girl's quest to find just that may turn out to be more dangerous than she could have ever anticipated.
(Also, writing even that line has made me realize something big - pretty much every character in my group is either searching for, or at war with who they are!) (Well. There is one who's completely at home with himself. But still. XD )
Also also, I didn't get to add to the story itself yesterday due to some fun chaos involving Tucker and the vet (he's doing fine) but I did add about 100 words to a segment that I'd like to use later in the book. So that's still progress in my eyes!

Reached 6001 words today! :D Although i'm kind of annoyed, open office's word count said 6001, but NaNoWriMo's word count says only 5986. >:/ It may only be a difference of 15 words, but I feel like I'm being gypped. I'm not sure which one could be wrong, either, or what would account for the difference. Does one count names, while the other doesn't or something?

That's really weird! But that's awesome, that you've hit that point. :)
I almost didn't write yesterday, but I made myself sit down before bed and added 152 words (successfully hitting the NaNo calendar's suggestion of writing more than you did the day before!)

It might be that one counts hyphenated words while the other doesn't? Or perhaps NaNoWriMo finds duplicate words, like "had had" and ignores them, thinking them typos? It's go to be something like one of those two.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to ignore the difference. In any case, hit 7785 this afternoon. :D However, I'm now caught up on all of the chapters involving Pepe's subplot that I had been avoiding doing (which ended up being really fun, despite my procrastinating). So, it might slow considerably now that I have to go back to Hiro and Kaye, but hopefully I'll keep the same pace.

I'm really hoping that we will be able to read some of these works. I know the Arcane book stuff isn't going to happen, but there are many of you writing. If I wasn't panicking about these programming projects for school I'd join in. I've had a story in my head for a few years that I keep evolving but never actually working on. Seeing the work you guys are putting in for this makes me feel lazy...
Not "conspiracies". Conspiracy. Singular.

It's okay, BG, the point of this month is to help everyone write! You could always jump in after your projects are done, or pick another month! Puffin and I have done it other months before and if I actually stick with the whole month, I'd probably want to keep going.
Successfully wrote about 150 words after attempting to sleep but being filled with conversation ideas. (I say 'about' because I'm pretty sure I remember where I picked up writing today, but I might be off...And when I attempted to delete filler lines and see what my actual word count is, my counts weren't lining up. XD )
Immediately after that, I wrote another 125 words of a segment that'll be coming up soon (not to mention hopefully connecting to another section I already have been working on). So today's progress helped me write a segment from a different character's perspective (that I wasn't originally planning on writing) that fits into the main part, not just 'stuff for later' and a 'stuff for later' bit that I'm sure I'll keep working on tomorrow...especially since I have unfinished sentences. Haha.
Now time for bed!
