I'm sorry we only got to chat for a little bit, and for awkwardly leading you far away from where you parked. :P I would have liked to hang out with you and Bee under better circumstances. Namely not late at night before a long-ass drive home.

 

++++But, I also saw The Decemberists and Spoon, and then I saw Neutral Milk Hotel (which was better than I could have ever hoped, seriously amazing), and tomorrow I'm seeing Sufjan Stevens. I don't go to a ton of shows, normally, but this month I'm fortunate that I get to see a lot of my favorite artists.

I hate this. I do it to myself all the time and it's the worst. And then, if you didn't completely destroy those old ideas, once you're invested in your new thing, you'll hit a wall and look back and think, "Hm that's not so bad, why did I stop that?"

buy a small whiteboard, and hang it somewhere you walk past a lot. im constantly writing and rewriting jokes now and it's really cathartic to erase bad stuff to replace with good stuff.

Though cryptic, I think I know the feeling. What's encouraging to me, is that basically any creative person ever has also doubted themselves at some point. The only solution is just to write a ton, just get it out there and try to not to worry if it's good enough. If an idea is appealing to you in some way, there must be something to it. You're always your own worst critic, etc.

+Talked with my mom about officially coming out on FB

-She basically said "don't do the thing" because she doesn't want to deal with 'disappointment and questions' from the family

+So instead I came out to my gay cousin on said side of the family and asked for advice

+And according to him everyone will either be supportive or at least nice, or they just won't talk about it ever

+He said lots of other supportive & helpful things too, which was really great

+So I removed him and most of that side of the family (except my grandfather) from the 'you can't see my FB relationship status' list

+/- List now only has about 20 people on it instead of 28

 

Gonna call mom tomorrow and talk to her again about it all, and hopefully remove everyone else from that list. We'll see how that goes!

seriously? your mom is worried about the social Implications? good luck i guess. i thought she'd just be supportive because like you are you and you are awesome and stuff. well i hope you convince her that it would be a good thing. and if you can't i hope you do it anyways just for your own piece of mind. there is no reason to keep your emotions locked up and private right?

do you really want to keep toxic, disapproving people in your immediate vicinity? breaking up with your parents isn't the end of the world, it's actually something you're supposed to do. it means you're a fully functioning adult.

My mom says she's totally okay with my sexuality but sometimes I think she's lying to herself. I'm pretty sure she's moved past the "maybe your next relationship will be with a man" phase (she held on to that for a while when I came out as Bi/Pan) but she still keeps insisting that I shouldn't announce myself until I'm "sure my relationship will work out". ...We've been dating for 3 1/2 years, live together, and are talking about the idea of buying a house. 

 

IDK. My cousin never officially "came out" to anyone, he just changed his 'interested in' status on FB. I already have on my profile that I'm in a same-sex relationship, and only maybe 20 people can't see that if they were to go to my page. I'm thinking about just shutting that list down and no longer censoring so much. I feel like that's a step I need to take in order to stop hesitating over the word 'girlfriend' when talking with people. 

 

I'm thinking I might not make an official post or anything, but at least take that step. After all, I've been the main one advocating that I shouldn't have to come out, and she said it herself in her argument - I shouldn't have to announce it, I should just "be". 

 

kspr - my parents are a state away, and my mom's concern appears to be that she'd have to be the one dealing with any potential conversation from the family, since everyone lives like a block away from each other. I don't consider her toxic, she just makes me sad once in a while. But I'm hoping that me being so open about myself with her is gradually changing her viewpoint on the entire matter. It's just taking a long time, since I'm eight hours away and it's not like I've ever been able to just bring my gf around to hang out (since even when I lived with my parents, she was eight hours away).
