I'm not quite sure where to put this, but I'm playing the Clannad Visual Novel (source material). I've been avoiding finishing this franchise for years (it's a massive tear-jerker), and have only made it a few hours into the VN and about half the anime, but I suppose now is the best time to tackle it head on. *sigh* Jun Maeda really knows how to bring out the emotions.

Just came out from seeing Cowboys and Aliens. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it. They basically took all the important cowboy cliches ("man with no name" type main character, run down town with one rich guy who basically owns everything, his jackass son who likes to bully the townsfolk, a gang of bandits who help save the day, and Indians) and threw in aliens. And explosions.

Same thing as always, The Office, Doctor Who, King of the Hill, and a few other spitterings of shows I find here and there. Don't really have time for movies anymore...

Just had a double feature with The Spy Who Loved Me and the original Planet of the Apes. I had never seen any movie from either franchise, and apparently this needed to be rectified.

I had no idea James Bond movies were filled with so many corny pickup lines.

Planet of the Apes was actually better than I expected.

Not without its flaws, but a pretty good movie.

Yesterday I went with two friends to see Friends with Benefits. Admittedly, I didn't think it was going to be all that great, but it was!

I was laughing the entire movie!

I recently found season 1 of Lost for $5, and I just finished the two-part pilot. I had forgotten that Dominic Monighan was it in. That made me happy. And yay backgammon.

Oh it was absolutely wonderful! The whole first season seemed sort of unsure of itself and I feel like nobody really knew where they wanted to go with the characters but in the second season everything just sort of fell together in a perfect storm of off-beat hilarity. I can't wait to see what the future holds. <3

Anyway, done with Arrested Development, what a great show, and now I'm not sure what to watch as far as serials go. But I did watch Disney's Tangled tonight and I must say it was a triumph of animation and really captured that old Disney spirit. I guess Disney has really gotten its act together recently and learned what people want from a good family film.

I've been watching a ton of anime lately, too many to list. But I feel that Tatami Galaxy is worth mentioning. First episode is here.

When a college dropout stops for a late night bite at a mysterious ramen stand, he crosses paths with a self-proclaimed deity of matrimony. This bizarre meeting sends the young man hurtling through a horrifying flashback to his not-so-glorious college days when the influence of a cruel new friend turned him from a hopeless romantic into a mischievous “black cupid.”

That short description doesn't even do it justice at all. It's a little daunting because the narrator speaks so quickly that it's hard to keep up with the subs. The art style is different. Experimental and mixes real with animated, but the integration is perfect and the animation is so fluid. I usually hate experimental crap, but this series does it right. The script dialogue is unsurpassed and the storytelling is masterful. Characters are all wonderful. Good soundtrack. It's hard to hate anything about this series other than the fact that the narrator speaks fast, and you get used to that by the end of the first episode.

"The Tatami Galaxy won the grand prize for the animation category in the Japan Media Arts Festival on December 8, 2010. It was the first time a TV animation series won the grand prize."

One of the best anime I've ever seen? You bet.
