Just mucking around with something.. Not to sure if I want to do anything with it. All custom made, the tile set that is. Does that sprite style fit with the tile set?

I'm digging the simple style of the chipset. I'd ask to steal it if I could actually use RM...

That aside, it's hard to say whether or not the sprite fits. If your tiles for buildings and such are going to be the same style as the landscape, the sprite might be too...high-res, I guess would be the word. Like putting 16-bit sprites in an 8-bit setting. I'd recommend something wth simpler shading. (Then again, I'm viewing this on my phone, so take my advice on image qualiy with a grain of salt.)

Drop all the highlights and add a dark border to the top of the helmet/horns, you should be good.

i'm having some trouble with my custom sprites i'm working on. i drew them in illustrator, which for whatever reason cannot output a .png. this is a rough idea of what they look like in the program,

Try using colored outlines and see if that helps at all.

EDIT: Or are those colors dark enough that you already are, and I just can't tell? (Viewing on phone.)

Yeah make sure Photoshop knows you want to export with transparencies. Also make sure when you export from Illustrator to Photoshop there's no white background coming in... Wait, what version of Photoshop are you using? If it's too old it may not support transparencies in PNGs. But converting to an indexed GIF should work fine. Definitely has fewer than 256 colors.

i'm using ps7, and illustrator 10. i just copied the sprite really quick to see what it looked like overall. i'll try as a gif then.

exporting as a .gif wasn't even an option in either program. i exported to ps7 as a 200 dpi psd, and then saved as a .png. the result is that the peaceful beachfront town is getting crushinated by gigantoman.

got it working now. the magic number is 85dpi

now what do i do about the face? rtp charsets don't have faces :( and this looks stupid.

ooook so i found a grid to guide the photoshop translation, but it won't let me save it as a .png i tried to change the file extension, but it was invisible in rmxp. also, it saved super screwy.
