Thanks! Real dialogue won't overlap the charsets, as this is just a temp npc I tossed into my nearest save spot.

I'm trying to upload regular progress updates as I implement the CBS, no matter how crappy and incomplete it looks. Here's the first video, about a few days worth of work.

what should i put in the big empty space in this map? the big building is the mining office/town hall/jail, and the other building near the grass is Tom Sloan's Dog Farm. the mines are going to be used, and the three open spaces on the edges of the map go to different places.

it's the rtp mining town exterior. the corners of the cliffs dont blend with the sand, because they have the default terrain at their base, and there isn't a tile without the default ground pattern, like in EVERY other rtp set. i added a fence around the mining office, and an event where the main character gets abducted and carried off.that way the huge gap isn't encountered until later in the story. there's not a whole lot else in the tileset that i can put there

i don't want to put a huge amount of work into it. i'm doing this project for my contest entry, and to prove to myself that i can actually finish a project, i don't want to use anything other than rtp. i'm using outside music, because rtp music is terrible, but other than that, it's straight rtp. i don't want to edit anything, or put any more work into this than i have to. i just want to actually finish something. i edited the map, and added a building for the miners to live in. The Green Mages did a pretty good job with making grass and trees grow in the desert... the green, blue, and brown mages carve out the landscape, and put plants and water where they normally wouldn't be. that way i have a plot device to back up my lack of mapping skillz.

Did you use the rounded mountain bottoms for the desert sand? Bottoms on the mountains/hills do have the rounded ones (as far as I can see that) and the ones in the desert don't, but I'm guessing that is the chipsets fault right?

rtp tileset here. i actually had to add the sand autotile to the set in the database. the tileset had a rounded bottom for the cliff, but it wasn't blank, it matched the default ground tile. i hate when they all match like that and you can't tell what's what without straining your eyes to tell. it looks dumb no matter what i do to it.

the tile on the right is the top part of the shadowed cliffside. they match, and it's an eyesore. i tried to maybe just photoshop the ground around the bottom of the cliff off, but it's proving to be a lot more involved than i'm interested in.

This project started a few months ago when I found an old screenshot from WAY back, and then remembered it was from an old project of mine. I took as much as I could from memory and decided, before I leave these programs for good that I would bring back one of the first games I ever tried to make, and apply all my current knowledge to it without taking away most of it's Final Fantasy ripoff style. NPCs haven't been added to some of these maps.

Title Screen, no games complete without one! I also decided to keep this games original name, for nostalgic reasons.

BTW about the unfinished screenshot.. Does the waterfall work or should I just change the water tile to match it better?
