I'm giving all of you a -1 since none of you mentioned Animaniacs.

EDIT: That is, -1 per post, so most of you will probably get lots of minuses.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

I used to watch it too, and it's still on tv here in the Netherlands. I thought this topic was about cartoons that don't air anymore.

I have also depleted my positive feedback pool to people with a minus for all the "good" shows that they DID mention. take that Ax-Pants!

Also I concur with Digimon and Monster Rancher...

They've started selling seasons of Scooby Doo... =D I'm tempted, especially the New Adventures, since I would probably buy that for one episode that I really loved but it never aired after I first saw it. They just kept reairing that stupid Globetrotters episode. >.>

You're definitely not alone. :) I'd get so excited to see New Adventures airing, and then I'd run over and see what episode was playing an...Globetrotters. Again. I turned my TV off in disgust and walked away. XD

I've been watching episodes of Hey Arnold, Johnny Bravo, Doug, and Courage the Cowardly Dog recently. The nostalgia trip is wonderful.

I don't get why kids shows these days suck.

Could it be that we just grew up?

Medabots~. That makes me think of Zach Bell, too. :D

Spaz: No, they just suck.

Kids programming these days focuses mainly on keeping your attention with flashy lights and poorly developed plotlines that are mainly around for the humor. In my opinion, at least. There are a few decent ones tucked in among all the junk, though. (-is thinking mainly of Phineas and Fern-)

My case in point: The "remastered" Mighty Morphing Power Rangers. An attempt to get today's generation interested in the best season of Power Rangers ever by 'remastering it' and making it 'better than ever'. How? By making neon signs that say "POW!" flash in the middle of the battle. Seriously. I was so disappointed.

As long as Adventure Time and Yo Gabba Gabba exist. Kids shows don't suck.

I think this might be partially due to the generation gap. The kids of our generation and the kids growing up right now may have been raised similarly, but if we factor in the passage of time and the corresponding changes in society, our experiences are fundamentally different. Children of today have been reared into an existence filled with predominantly what we may consider as rubbish programming. Contemporary childrens' shows focuses on themes and features that we may find unappealing, and that's alright because we're not their target demographic. We're outside of that generation, and due to the way that society has changed between the point at which we enjoyed our shows and the point at which kids today are enjoying their shows, the interest may not be something we can possibly wrap our minds around. The argument is that shows these days are less witty, less original, too safeguarded with principles..etc..My claim is that most of these are all subjective topics, and that as society changes we might not be fully accustomed to accepting everything that challenges our ideas of "funny" or "interesting", and I think that's just fine, in the same way why many older folks find the stuff of our generation uninteresting bull-honky.

tl;dr as Spaz claimed, it's just that we're growing up.

I do get your point...I just wish that they would continue to "appeal to our demographic" by rerunning the old cartoons (on a more accessible channel than Boomerang, which I would need to purchase...). Or at least releasing them faster on DVD...And actually making them available in stores. I've discovered so many of my old favorites starting to come out on DVD, yet they don't appear anywhere except online. I call conspiracy!

I completely agree with you. In that regard, I think they have failed.

It might be related to marketing and worries about what's profitable and what's not. There are also various licensing issues involved. Not that either of these provide justification, but they might explain the severe absence of DVDs and stuff.

It seems to me that the only shows that are still consistently good 10+ years later are the slapstick cartoons like Looney Toons and Tom & Jerry. "Serious" shows like the aforementioned Power Rangers and Swat Kats are just corny now.
