woke up and drew this. im going to add another area before you get to Marshton. this guy is the elite-normal enemy.

this guy spawned a whole new area. it's connecting a forest path to East Marshton. West Marshton, which now makes a cape, is snow covered, but not as buried as East Marshton. i have to migrate all the people to the west, and come up with some enemies for East Marshton. this means that the boss' dungeon just doubled in size. it's going to be a lot more Winters-y now where town is meshed in with nature. then as you go east, the evil snowmen come out in the half buried town. once i get this area done, i can remake my world map, since this is twisting it around a bunch. i really want to make a scale model, but i keep doing this. East Marshton is now on the other side of a river, near its outlet to the sea. the boss' cave is on the far eastern side of Marshton.

so this is turning out pretty good:
since this expanded area is on the coast, i think it needs a lighthouse. picture this with me now, as an fmv: as night falls and the snow thickens, you try to sneak into the buried part of town to run supplies to people trapped in houses. when you're right in the middle of the field, the lighthouse turns on. the snowmen pop out of the snow and stagger towards you while the lighthouse pulses behind you, this is suddenly like wrestling alligator while standing in a swamp. you're half buried and moving at 2 instead of 4. there's going to be thick snow fog, and heavy snow weather, almost completely graying the screen, then the lighthouse flashes normal color at interval.

edit: got my lighthouse. now comes the real fun. meticulously creating idoor spaces to match my outdoor one, and write all the dialogue and blahblahblah. ugh. i like making maps more than the actual game. almost done with Marshton. i have add a few small events, make sure the lighthouse sequence works right, and then make sure certain events switch off after the boss fight.

Finished my rough draft for a puzzle swamp. this is where you have to ride in the bubbles of swamp gas to find a magic mushroom to help Waldo make a telepad spell to go back to Villageburg.

staying up all night to work on the demo tonight.
how do you guys feel about one off locations for quests? im thinking about making an explorable area in a lower dimension, but you can only go once. i like these when they're not too big, because i get bored of exploring huge areas that in only go to once.

I get bored exploring huge ass areas in general if they're boring.
But I do like one off areas, as long as I know it's a one off area/it's not super easy to miss critical stuff that makes me feel like I'm missing out.

i have this mission in mind specifically. you just go in, kill trolls, and leave. i want to do something like this, but make it a bigger part of that chapter.

the storyline affecting moments will be directed and unmissable. i have this awesome framed print over my desk, and i want to make a tower city. the moment comes after you discover a tower in a swamp, and it leads to the "negative" side of the world.

okok ground your hog there. those are the maps i'm limiting myself to. they're there, but not populated. i'm at 187 maps now. but expect to be around 220-240 when it's done. now if my meandering gets annoying, which it is, i just work on another map. zoar is done. it's 300x300. there's public transportation, street signs, and a friendly neighborhood serial killer.

It's amazing to me how you can create a monster snowman and just bang out an entire area for him. You sir are fascinating!
