Finished up two books, Running with the Mind of Meditation and The Wind Up girl. Wasn't going to start until July, but I couldn't help myself, and I've already started reading A Clash of Kings.
What are you reading?

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

I have some of Cory Doctorow's books on my Kindle just waiting to be read, but I haven't gotten around to it yet... Mostly because of A Song of Ice and Fire. They are good... so damn good. I finished up the A Clash of Kings yesterday, and am now making me way through A Storm of Swords. A while ago I worried that I might not enjoy reading these books because of another series I was reading, and not enjoying the "series" format. But man, I'm engrossed.
Also, when I can I sneak a listen to Snow Crash. but that is moving somewhat slowly. Should still be able to finish it by the end of the month. It's pretty great in this format.

I have Snow Crash sitting by my bed, but haven't had a chance to glance at it yet. Is the audiobook done well?

The Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Combat Manual. Bit of a refresher for the Character contest.

For the most part. The quality isn't as high as other audiobooks I've listened to. It's a little grainy, I've heard a couple of strange artifacts from the recording (nothing too bad), and there is some strange "speaking in tongues" (related to the book) audio that plays between each chapter.I think it's because the recording is a bit older. It's from 2001, close to when Audible was just getting started, and before it got super serious about it's sci-fi and fantasy offerings. One nice surprise I had was that the narrator is the same man who narrated The Wind Up Girl, and he is absolutely fantastic in both books. I love listening to it, because the slang is just so, so '90's.

Still reading the Young Jedi Knights series. I'm about 3/5 of the way through. Also, The Case for Gold! :D
We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Most recently I just finished Choke by Chuck Palinhuick as well as Mr Penumbras 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan and The ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman my favorite by far was Penumbras it had a steady pace it had google book cults and an out of college grad at the heart of it i definatly suggest it
I really enjoyed Choke when I read it. I read it at the same time as this girl I really had the hots for. Lead to some interesting conversation but no sex. And really, what the point of books if discussing them is not going to get you laid?
Talking of books that won't get you laid, I'm now reading Down & Out in the Magic Kingdom. It's alright. His vision of the future is so close to my own, but I just can't get into the characters. I just wish it was better written, but maybe I just need to stick with it.

Yeah, I would like anyone who enjoys reading to try and write. I feel like we could have a community of authors among us.

That would be quite enjoyable. :) I would love to read some of the books you people write. Fun fact, when I was in 2nd grade, I had a book published through the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. It was about a penguin and... I forgot the other animal. Anyways it taught the importance of sharing. I wish I knew where to find that so I could post a copy. :/

The university I studied at has one of the most respected creative writing courses in the world. I made friends with some of the students and often talk to them about stuff they're writing. It makes me realize just how difficult and complex writing a compelling narrative is. My plan is to just harass them until they write my story ideas for me.

Finished up A Storm of Swords.
A Song of Ice and Fire has changed my mind about books intentionally written as a series (that is, with no real conclusions at the end of each book). Because man, these books are addicting. I guess that means that The Lost Fleet just needs to... be better.

For some reason I started thinking about Naruto yesterday. I've gotten way behind on the scanlated chapters, and the official translation hasn't even caught up to where I left off, so I've been getting myself up to date. The end is...almost in sight? But there is apparently a looooot of flashback-style history and backstory to learn about before things get wrapped up.

Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford.
I have been slowly accumulating tokens for audio books so I'm putting them to use. After a summer of taking math and science courses, I need a shot of History. And at over 14 hours in length, I'm in for one big shot.
