Yes, it's time once again for MonkeyCon! This time, Kasper Kalamity's crazy uncle Dagobert D'au Arseneaux De La Robillard has graciously invited the whole gang to his palatial estate in beautiful Acadia Parish, Louisiana. Although apprehensive due to the problems that have plagued previous MonkeyCons, you decided you can't miss out on MC2.
You knew the estate was out of the way, but as you travel from the city, you can't help but notice how the cities and towns give way to the bayou, and the land becomes twisted in a sickly dead swamp. You begin to feel uneasy, but shrug it off as general creeps from the area. Soon browns, blacks and yellows are the only colors in sight. Even the sky turns a greyish yellow.
As you come upon the site of the manor, you can't help but think it was exaggerated slightly. Although quite large, the home sits in the middle of the swamp, raised up on stilts. When you enter, you are confused, as the interior is just as alive as the outside is dead. A beautiful gem of housing in an otherwise inhospitable environment. You breath a sigh of relief as you realize you won't be sleeping in any mudhut tonight!
When you arrive, you're excited to see everyone again, and some new faces for the first time! Most of the day is spent catching up and complaining about airports. As evening approaches, Uncle Dagobert invites everyone into the dining hall, where he has prepared a fantastic gumbo feast. Everyone eats heartily and enjoys their time together.
After supper is complete, Uncle Dagobert lowers his head and begins to sob. "I'm sorry everyone. I'm so sorry." He stands and walks toward the window. "As guardian of this land, I'm sworn to do what it takes to protect the people here. Even if that means doing awful, horrible things to others.
"Many years ago, this land was uninhabitable. All of it. When the deal was struck, the swamp retreated, and allowed a nice life here. The spirits that haunt this place agreed to leave us in peace, if we would agree to a human sacrifice. You have been chosen for that sacrifice.
"Some of your meals have been poisoned. Tonight, and for the next seven nights, you will transform into an abomination. An unspeakable evil. I think the common term for them these days is 'Zombie'. Oh, maybe it's not a perfect word for what you will become, since you'll still be alive, but it will do. There is one hope, though. If you can... destroy the zombies, the sacrifice will be accepted, and you will be free to go." The man turns around and takes one last forelorn look at the group. Although his actions could not be undone, you could see the regret in his eyes. The sadness for what he was doing, what he had done countless times before. His gaze once again dropped to the floor, and suddenly, he vanished. Upon inspection, it was as if he had never been there at all.
Stunned silence filled the room. Was this really happening? Were such things possible? Everyone runs in a different direction, some trying the doors, others the windows. No matter what you try, they are sealed shut, as if they were never ment to open. Even attempts to smash the window yield no results. Certainly there is magic at work in this place. You instinctively whip out your phone, only to find that that it doesn't work in this place.
Suddenly, Koraz jumped out of his seat, completely surprised, and yelled, "Wait a minute! I don't even have an Uncle Dagobert!"
EVENING OF THE FIRST DAY
-SEVEN DAYS REMAIN-
