This is the General Sports Ball Topic for talking about Sports.

It's only sporting that I don't hog this all to myself.

Yes, the thread was worth it for that one awful pun.

Sports!

Tonight are the AFC and NFC Championship games.

Go Seahawks, and go Broncos! My preseason Super Bowl pick is close to happening!

I agree Go Broncos. And I guess I will say Go Seahawks only cuz I loathe the Niners a little more than them. Would love to see Peyton win it all this year.

Yeah, I think I'd love to see the Broncos win the Super Bowl...

But I think the winner is going to be the winner of the 49ers-Seahawks game. The NFC is just so much stronger this year, and the Seahawks and 49ers have both been equally (if not more) impressive as the Broncos despite a legendary season by Manning.

Rodgers-Cromartie is down for the Broncos.

This means no more true pass protection on half the field.

Guess the Patriots just lucked their way to yet another Super Bowl.

The Broncos have lost many defensive guys and just keep on ticking. The nfc teams are too inexperienced. I still think Denver is this year's winner.

I certainly hope so.

I really like the Broncos (I don't dislike either NFC team, so I wouldn't mind them either).

I should note I was being very sarcastic when I said "hand the Super Bowl to the Pats"

They just seem to always get all of the breaks, and it irritates me.

To be fair, a lot of the Pats defense has been decimated this season. Talib just went down too.

The Broncos running game is so impressive today. Peyton Manning? Who is he?

It looks like the Knowshon Moreno show is going to be the story of tonight's game.

With a supporting cast heralded by Montee Ball.

How can you not be totally annoyed by Jim Harbaugh and the entire Niners team? They run their mouth all game long and argue even painfully obvious penalty calls. Pete Carroll and the Hawks D are just as bad. I like Beast Mode and Russell Wilson so that's really the only reason I would pull for the Seahawks. But in reality, I'll just take comfort in knowing one of those teams is gonna be eliminated today.

I think both of those teams are "true" villains of the sport though.

Sports need villains. I don't really "root" for either team, because I'm a Cowboys fan. But I do appreciate a good villainous team being in the Super Bowl.

And I mean real villains. Not teams I dislike for one players existence (like how I dislike the Patriots because of Tom Brady alone.)

I just look forward to the possibility of Broncos (the good guys) against whoever in the Super Bowl because both teams are villains.

13-3 at the half, it's been a pretty good game so far, despite the scoreboard saying otherwise. The Patriots look a lot better than the 3 points are telling us.

This could be an electric second half.

Here's hoping that nothing TOO exciting happens though ;)

Ok good so other parts of the country see them as villains and it's not just because I'm a biased packer fan that I feel that way. :)

Yeah as the sun problem sets we should see more fireworks in this game.

A lot of people see them as villains, and I know a ton of people HATE the Seahawks. Mostly because their fans are obnoxious.

I know people don't like the 49ers, for having so much attitude.

Both teams have their faults. But objectively, when I am watching them, their games can be a lot of fun BECAUSE of their attitude.

It's like watching a heel in wrestling. You know to boo, but secretly, you think what they are doing is pretty awesome, and just detest their personality.

The Broncos have beaten the Patriots 26-16, and move on to the Super Bowl.

The game actually ended up being a LOT closer than I expected (I expected something in the realm of 35-14), but it was still kind of a blowout, and ironically, yet again, the scoreboard didn't tell the tale. The Patriots scored 13 points in the second half, but looked UGLIER than they did in the first half when they only scored 3. A lot of the time, it felt like the Broncos were mailing in the second half, and just wanted to end the game.

Now we get Seahawks/49ers, which should be a really fun back and forth game as long as the Seahawks and 49ers D do what they've been doing all year.

On the Seahawks/49ers being villains. I don't know. I mean maybe it's because I am from the west coast so I don't feel it as much. I think there's a lot of respectable people on the two teams, I don't much mind either QB or running back. I think both Gore and Lynch are pretty respectable.

I think partly the 49ers deserve everything more and have a bigger chip on their shoulder. A lot of people on that team spent a long time in a dysfunctional team and they're finally playing good...but also a lot of the younger people are a bit big headed about it. I see the same thing with the Seahawks, but moreso (and I hate Golden Tate, he seems like the biggest asshole ever...maybe I'm still holding a grudge from that GB game though).

Although, honestly, I don't much care for 49ers. Their fans are mostly annoying (I was just in San Francisco yesterday too, blah. Not as bad as when the Giants were in the World Series though) and when they switched out Smith for Kaep mid season I lost a lot of respect for them, especially since I don't think Kaep is that good or better than Smith.

Anywho. I think the Broncos have a better chance if they have to play the Seahawks. I think San Francisco is better overall and are far more clutch when they need to be. The Seahawks' offense has been pretty weak the past few weeks...and I never really liked it much to begin with, and they're bad at playing from behind, which the Broncos could easily do to them.

Through the first half and a few minutes of the 2nd half... this game has been exactly what I expected. Hard nosed, gritty defense, all about that one big play.

For the 49ers, it was Kaepernick running, and for the Seahawks and Lynch, it was his massive 40 yard TD run.

I'm really excited to see who comes out of this game victorious. Bet is still on the Seahawks, but this really could go either way, a feeling I am glad exists.

Kaepernick became a turnover machine in the second half. What a game, though. Hopefully the Super Bowl is just as exciting.

I feel doubtful. There's just something about this game that feels like it'll be the most exciting of the entire post-season.

Kaep is like, ugh. He is good at running but nothing else really. He's not as clutch as you'd want him to be, and Smith was just a far better fit in that offense (he wouldn't have turned it over as much). He also just totally sucks at the play clock. Part of the reason they lost was because of that delay of game, which he does all of the time (or eats up TOs).

Sherman just did taunted Crabtree and it was so annoying. And they he was interviewed and it was even worse. I really don't like the Seahawks.

Kaepernick became a turnover machine in the second half.

I can't fault him for the last INT though.

It wasn't the best choice, but it was a solid throw, and just how you'd draw it up. But Richard Sherman is a beast athletically, and he was in the perfect position to tip the ball up to be intercepted.

That was just an incredible ending to an incredible game.

-----

On that note, my preseason SB pick from the past 2 years will finally meet in the Super Bowl.

To say this is an eagerly anticipated matchup is an understatement.

I cannot wait for the Super Bowl, and I'm honestly not sure who I want to root for here.

EDIT - I was ninja'd by Monkey. For the record, I wasn't a fan of the post game antics by Sherman. He's a million times too cocky for what he does.
