The Art forum has been dormant for too long, and this is my attempt to do something about it. My hope is that this will become a bi-weekly event.

For now, the scope of this thread will be limited to fantastical creatures. For each run, I will post a list of two animals and a classical element. Your goal is to come up with a way to incorporate all of these into some kind of creature, draw it in the medium of your choice, and post it here for everyone to see. The subjects will be randomly selected, so there's no telling what you'll be asked to draw.

Anyone may participate, and there is no sign up required. You can post multiple images per run if you wish.

I really thought I had posted here already... in any case, I drew the challenge. It's really quick and rough, but eh. I haven't been in much of a mood to draw, so this is the best I got.

I will try the next mix-match. This one simply would not work for me.

Thank you, at least, to Puffin for actually drawing something (awesome). And I'm glad to see at least one more person who is interested in the idea.

I've added the next set to the first post, and I'll try to be more dutiful with this one...

EDIT: I may cheat and post a pic for round 1 anyway. Just need to get around to drawing something. >_> <_<

Do iiit! :D I only drew mine today, and there's still some time left.

I probably will try to put more time into this for the next round. I like the mix of this one, too. Also, I think I might've found the book you're using for this at my local art store. :o I'm very tempted to pick up a copy if I can scrounge together the money... it looks neat.

Here we go. One very quick and very dirty chamerchin pic.



At first I didn't think a glowing chameleon would work too well for hiding, so I tried to think of something different for the "glow" aspect. When the chamerchin senses a threat, it glows in a manner that makes it appear much larger than it actually is, hoping to scare away any other creatures that might be looking for a snack.

ha, I like how you came up with a reason for its glowing. :p I figured mine was just a vain species of chameleon that eventually went extinct due to its glowing not being very useful for hiding.

Like when all the white moths that try to hide on dark tree bark get eaten while the black moths don't? =p

I'm sure yours still exists somewhere and hides amongst those glowy plants that I can't remember the names of. It looks too cool to be extinct.

Trumpaffe has blowholes on the center of its rosetting patern that it can blow steam out of to create a smokescreen.

...that just makes me think that this is going to turn into a 'create your own pokemon' game XD

Also, i like yours, Kamau :D unluckiest giraphant of them all.

Aw, I thought that those animals were suggestions... I made... Well I did use a Giraffe... I'm not finished yet.

EDIT: Yeaaah... After seiing Puffin's, and messing up on this one, I'm going to wait... Again...

Finished mine! :D I'm rather proud of this one. :3 I ended up including a bit more of a 'fire' theme to mine. Can't really help it, the patterns on giraffes kind of makes me think of lava. :P so I tried to make its skin look like cooling lava, with the more elephant parts having a bit of an ashy look.

Interesting. I could do something like that to mix things up for the next one if there are no objections.
