supposedly bethesda has officially moved on from Skyrim. what happened to the 3-5 "substantial" dlc packs we were promised? they just programmed two extra CONTINENTS into the game for FUN? there better be a damn good reason, like Fallout 4, for how half assed the entire skyrim cycle was.

I woke up with the craziest urge to reinstall Skyrim. So that is what is being done. I'm gonna install a metric fucktonne of mods.

I think that it's fantastic and amazing that it's 2013 and when I pirate dodgey warez versions of games the installers still come with awesome chiptune music. A true testiment to the bad-assery of "the scene". And maybe I'm just high, but fuck I owe a lot to the likes of Skidrow, RELOADED and Razor.

Man, I've never been given so much trouble trying to get a consistent frame rate out of a game. Seriously I've been tweaking settings, fiddling with mods and configuring graphics drivers for like 7 hours now and it still won't maintain a reasonable fps. It's strange, it'll be running at a solid 30fps (I have it limited to 30fps) and then suddenly it will drop to less than a frame a second, and rarely recovers.

Are you trying to run it on linux? I ask because I have had almost consistently stable performance from the game, and I've put more hours in to it than I care to admit.

So... Let's do the standard trouble shooting.

Operating System?

Hardware?

Latest patches?

Pirated copy?

Background programs?

Running Mods?

Game Settings?

As fun as running Skyrim on Linux sounds, I actually have a Windows 7 partition put aside for gaming.

My hardware is a bit wonky, slow memory but fast graphics card with a slightly aging CPU. But I've run Skyrim on this machine before without any problems, and that was before I upgraded my graphics card.

I've played around with mods, disabling the HD textures improved stability a whole heap, but I still get occasional framerate drops that don't appear to have anything to do with what is actually displayed (can occur either on internal or external cells, so I don't think it's a shortage of memory). It may have something to do with how I tweaked the shadow settings in the ini, they look pretty fancy now. But I figure that's only really going to affect my GPU, which really shouldn't be the problem here.

So after going through all the fun of installing mods and tweaks and whatever, and it runs decently enough now, I still find it difficult to get into the game. I think the voice acting kills it for me, that and the poorly written reductive dialogue. It just makes me miss Morrowind.

Reinstalled it again today. Maybe this will be the time it clicks for me.

Nexus seems to cap my download speed at 50kbps. That's pretty shitty. Really what they should do is generate a torrent for each mod and implement bittorrent into the Nexus Mod Manager if they want to save their bandwidth.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but it's new for me:

This is how I always intend to play Skyrim when I start it up, but I always get distracted by shitty quests.
