-family is driving me crazy
---i miss my friends in colorado
+summer vacation is very relaxing.
+delved into quite a few good textbooks so far :3
-still very uncertain about what i want to spend my money on (possibly an imac w/free ipod touch + new wardrobe + new backpack); alternatively, i might just invest a third and stockpile the rest until i start working again.
-----even more uncertain about my future. i'm finishing my major in mathematics next year (second-year) and working on my thesis/research. i've been contemplating a full-year study abroad program in japan for quite some time, and i have even written the appropriate proposals to get this specific program approved, but i feel compelled to try out a different option. instead of three years at my school + the one year abroad, i'll just jump into the engineering track for a dual degree: in total, three years here + two years at Columbia University (yay ivy league) for Computer Engineering. it'll take five years ;_; though and it seems kinda silly, but Columbia has ridiculous job placement rates and I find CE is pretty damned interesting. plus i have guaranteed admission to the program. i figure, i'll just save up money and travel to japan for a summer. and if i feel that wasn't enough, i'll sign up for the JET program and hopefully my language skills will be at least JLPT 2 by that time. mehh

Personally, I find it ridiculous that someone like you is worried about job placement, especially if you're doing any kind of engineering, which is pretty high demand around here, or so I hear.
Also, the JLPT is not a terribly effective test of familiarity with the language. Just throwing that out there.

Your family sucks; what else is new.
Besides, they're just looking to bring you down because you've already done so much better than they ever could- it's a jealousy thing, etc.

------- Dad just called; he wants me to come into the office to transfer emails from one computer to the next for easier access, or something.
------------------------------ It's 7:30 in the morning.

--- I pretty much have no choice but to go inquire about work at previous summer employment just because Mom refuses to stop hounding me about it.
--- I'm more angry about this than I should be. In fact, it gets me furious just thinking about it, and it shouldn't at all.

+ Line dancing later today.

Rock the pink like only a real man can. You got that phone by choice; you wanted pink, because pink is an awesome color, and any guy who says otherwise is just afraid.

You know it.

Also, too bad that Mael left us, but at least it's for an awesome cause.

+ First day of work, scorekeeping at baseball games.
- Work started at 8 a.m.
- I was told to be there at least a half hour early for every game, so work actually started at 7:30.
(+/- I was later told by my fellow scorekeepers that I don't actually have to be there a half hour early.)
+ Scorekeeping is fun.
+ I learned how to work the electronic scorekeeping board quickly.
+ A fellow scorekeeper showed me how to do neat tricks with the board, like making things flash.
- I was the only girl out of the four scorekeepers in my tower.
-- I think one of the head staff members was being sexist (or chauvinistic, but I can't really tell the difference), though it might have just been the way I interpreted it. Either way, I was pretty irritated.
Example a) It was starting to drizzle a bit, and he came up and said "If it starts raining, I want you three guys to go put out the tarps." -turns to me and smiles- "You don't have to worry about it. You can just stay up here."
Example b) He just...talked down to me. Or at least I felt I was being talked down to. One of the umpires had called up to me for more baseballs, and I grabbed a few and brought them down just to find out that there was a box downstairs already. He was there, and was like "Just put them in the box, love. I'll bet this is the easiest job you've ever had, eh? Heh." And he went on for a bit. But it was mostly the tone of his voice, which I just plain didn't like for some reason.
- My games kept running longer than everyone else's, to the point where the game in the field next to mine (which was supposed to start the same time as my next game) had already started when I still had a few innings to go.
+ I brought my own lunch, so I didn't have to go buy over-priced food items from the cafe.
++/- The boss called a little while before my last game for the day was supposed to finish (actually, he called another kid, but the kid couldn't work the times needed so he talked to me next) and assigned me two more games for the day.
- Games were at 6 and 8 p.m.
-- I'm pretty sure I screwed up at some point during my final game because one of the coaches started talking angrily with one of the umpires, and then the umpire talked to one of the Staff, who called another member of the Staff, and both of them stayed to keep an eye on my game. >.> (No one came and spoke to me directly, so I have no idea if it was actually me or if I was just a scapegoat...Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow if I actually did anything I need to watch out for.)
+/- I spend 13 hours watching baseball (++ I get paid for spending 13 hours watching baseball)

- Went to the dentist this morning.
- I hate the hook.
--- Got my first ever almost-but-not-quite-a filling.
+ It didn't hurt since it wasn't actually a filling. They just removed a seal, cleaned the tooth, and put fresh sealant on.
-- The sealant tasted crazy nasty.
++ Got some nice coupons that I used at Borders yesterday and today:
++++ 25% off one whole order (got 10 books for about $65)
++ 40% off up to two DVD box sets (finally got the new Slayers seasons for $60 instead of $100 total)
++ 40% off any one item (got a 3-pack of the first Scott Pilgrim books~)
+ I don't have to feel too guilty about spending a bunch all at once since I still had all of my graduation money.
