So... my sister found a dog. :I A half starved, gray American pit bull that despite having bruises and scabs that would lead us to believe she was abused, has the sweetest demeanor ever. We suspect that in addition to being abused, that she was probably being used for breeding, since she appears to be a purebred and despite being one or two years old tops, she looks like she's given birth recently.
We kept her overnight in our backyard, in the hopes that we could call a rescue or a no-kill shelter (any other shelter isn't an option, they'd put her down immediately because of her breed). Unfortunately, my sister called every single rescue and shelter in the area and they all either had shut down after the hurricane or are full. So, now we're trying to find people we know who might be able to take her for the long term- whether it's keep her themselves or just keep her while they find a home for her.
And to make matters better, earlier today my sister moved her to the front yard so she could sit under the shade of a tree (even though I told her it would be better to make some make shift shade with a blanket or something, so she wouldn't be seen from the street...) and someone tried to steal her. Four guys had gone and cut the leash and they were about to nab her when my sister went outside and they ran off and drove away. Now we're crating the dog in my sister's room, but it's temporary at best, since we have cats and we're very uncertain about testing how amicable this dog is with them (that was the whole reason we didn't bring her inside in the first place).
This week's theme is the The Rescuers, apparently, since this is actually the second animal we'd spontaneously taken in. On Sunday my sister's friend brought me a three week old kitten he'd found. Now I'm raising that kitten and trying to find a home for him. Though, I'm a little afraid we'll have to hold onto this dog for the long term ourselves. A kitten is easy, they can be kept in a single room and all for the first several weeks, but a dog... we don't really have the resources for a second dog right now. And while I don't really want to turn this dog loose again, I dunno what we'd really do with her if we had to keep her for even a couple of days more. -_-
Edit: My older sister's boyfriend is taking her, hooray~
