fact: it's impossible to practice chopping firewood because at the end, you still have firewood.

is there a word for something like that? where there's no other way to practice something than by actually doing it?

Well obviously you practice chopping foam blocks first.

I can't help but think that the word your looking for is, in fact, just "practice." Which... I don't know.

Suddenly, lots of snow.

That aside, practice just means actually doing a thing (as opposed to talking or thinking about it), regardless of whether you know how to do it well.

The snow I mentioned melted by the end of the day.
But then it snowed like mad overnight. Work is opening an hour late today.

I was going to try to get in to using Vimeo more, since they seem to have some quality stuff, including this short movie, which I posted here a few weeks ago. But when I check the channels under "Science and Tech," nearly every channel listed was about politics or religion. By the time I realized that channel makers probably chose their own categories, and can probably choose several (like tags), I already had a bad taste in my mouth that I couldn't wash out. And that's not just because I blended some wine in to smoothie I just made.

So, I decided to go check youtube's recommendations. None of my subscriptions have updates, so I checked the main "What to watch on youtube" page. To no surprise, the headliner video at this moment is yet another black person on a news report describing something in the way that only poor black people can: hilariously! Well, unless the joke stopped being funny after all your people got snatched up.

I gave in and tried watching a Game Grumps video, where they played Goldeneye against each other, and as I suspected in another thread, it was stupid. I think I've just realized that these guys don't really have anything to be grumpy about. The whole video was just swearing and trying to make jokes about the 15 year old 3D graphics. Quality. Gaming. Content. I won't make that same mistake twice.

All of this, and other things, has made me just realize... I dunno. I think this video pretty much sums up how I feel about internets

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

I met a girl from Utah while I was up in Alaska. And so here I am. We wanted somewhere in the middle of California and Utah, and there isn't really anything in Nevada, so... Idaho. I've been here for about four months now.
