/>Prometheus was terrible. dont go see it.

What did you not like about it? I was planning on seeing it.

The last movie I saw was The Avengers and it was pretty cool. Lots of fighting, explosions and comic badassery.

Finally. No one ever posted in my Korra topic, and it made me sad. (Well, not sad, but it surprised me anyway.)

at the very beginning, there is some albino body builder alien guy who drinks something, which causes his body to fall apart and seed earth with life. Then, for the next hour, nothing happens. then two guys get attacked by some snakes that have vaginas for faces, and then outer space jason vorhees wakes up and attacks the space crew. the whole time they are teasing you with 'the origins of life on earth' they set up for all these big things to happen in the story, but then nothing happens, and the main character just flies away in a spaceship. it was extremely unsatisfying, and the ending was not worth the 2 hour investment at the theater. it's NOT a prequel to Alien at all, and if you go into the theater with any kind of expectations from storytelling or character development, you'll feel robbed. the characters are wooden and archtypical, and they stay that way. there were some subtle moments of 'i wonder what that guy's motivations are' but it's a total blow off because you never find out, and that's pretty much the overall feel to the movie, that there is so much more going on, but it's completely ignored for the sake of ignoring it so that if they make a sequel, you'll come to the sequel hoping that it actually gets into what was going on in the movie before it. the alien looking bad guy looked cool, but it wasn't even an actor in a suit, it was all cgi. in the four main Alien movies, all the Xenomorphs were costumes. this movie forwent what could have been the best acting in the film, so that it could have pretty cgi. there was just so much wrong with it, the pacing was so unbalanced that there would be big stretches of nothing exciting or important happening, and then all of a sudden there is a giant rape squid in the spaceship, and so many other boring parts that i kept falling asleep.

and it wasn't just me. after it was over, literally everyone in the theater got up and walked out during the credits mumbling about how bad a movie they thought it was. out in the lobby, people were standing around waiting for their friends and talking about how bad it was. outside people were hanging out waiting for rides talking about how bad it was.

Speaking of potentially bad movies. Puffin, SHE and I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman a few days ago, then proceeded to spend the entire car ride back discussing what we thought was good and bad about the movie. I think the only two "good" things I remember coming up with were pretty CGI and pretty costumes.

Seems like all the "big" films in the past month have ranged from so-so to bad. I haven't seen Battleship myself, but I also haven't heard anything good about it so far.

Hopefully Brave will break this trend.

I want to see Battleship just to know how bad it is. Now this doesn't mean I want to see it in theatres. That would be financially supporting the film and telling producers that they can get away with producing this garbage and still make money on it. Although I believe the movie is still bleeding cash. Going to wait until I can rent it or something. I already know it is god awful, but I want to cite personal experience.

Brave and Wreck-it Ralph are both on my radars. Huzzah for animated movies!

I dunno, even if it IS supporting the franchise, some of the best movies to go see with your friends are the god-awful ones. XD

Honestly, I think Battleship looks decent considering what it is. Kind of like how Piranha 3D was great just because it was pretty self aware of what it was and made the most of it.

Or maybe watching so MST3K has made me look forward to bad movies.

I liked Prometheus. It had a weird pacing, and I was excepting maybe a bigger payoff, sure, but the movie was a decent ride.

/>Just watched Miyazaki's newest film, The Secret World of Arriety.

NO!

It is NOT A MIYZAKI MOVIE. Just because it's Ghibli doesn't mean it's Miyazaki (Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, My Neighbor The Yamadas, Tales from Earthsea, Whisper of the Heart, The Cat Returns, and Ocean Waves are all also not Miyazaki movies). Also the music was done by a French person, so the soundtrack really doesn't differ in the English version. (Aside from songs being sung in English, but considering they aren't coming from a Japanese person and still from the original artist, so I doubt if the Japanese vocals would have been kept it would have changed anything)

And I think, with Arrietty, it's best not to even think about what's happening, since I feel like it wasn't meant to be about story much. I feel like it's more about the immersion experience you can get out of it if you can become immersed by the visual's/music. Which is why it kinda sucks and is totally not worth watching more than once. But the film is absolutely beautiful, and I absolutely love the instrumental version of Arrietty's Song.

Anyways...I just kinda watched Kiki's Delivery Service. Which was fun. I have really been in the mood to watch Princess Mononoke recently . So I'll probably do that and also watch Naussica and Laputa.

Well so-rry. My bad. I just knew it was by the same person who did Kiki's Delivery Service. I will never make the mistake again.

I'm a story person. Great visuals are great, but I like a good storyline and characters to follow along with. But it had its moments.

No. It's not. Miyazaki directed Kiki. Blah.

And it is kind of a big deal to incorrectly attribute people to things they didn't do, especially when that person is great and the thing is not so great.

and and and, Studio Ghibli isn't all about story and depth. A good amount of their movies tend to have basically nothing characters (everything by Takahata except Grave) or not much story (Totoro, Ponyo, Kiki). So...yeah I don't know what I'm saying, but I just don't think it's necessarily wise going into them always excepting good characterization? I mean I'm the same way, I love story, but...I don't know. done post.

Just rewatched Inception, and I finally remembered to watch for Cobb's wedding ring. A few times anyway. It seems that one guy was right about it being his true totem.

I think I may have also enjoyed the film more than I did during previous viewings, and I already quite liked it.

I really enjoyed the Avengers. Maybe I was just in a good mood with good company but I found myself enjoying it more than any of the superhero films I've seen. Other than the Batman films of course. They're awesome. Can't wait for Dark Knight Rises.

It was a perfect movie for just that atmosphere.

I just finished up Mad Men season 5. I still haven't figured out just what makes it so fantastic, but it is.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.
