Did christ actually exist? Sure.

Actually, There isn't even any factual proof that Jesus existed in even an historical sence. I don't know if it is true and not just Atheist propaganda, But there was a decent documentary called "The God who wasn't there" which raised some interesting points.

Not that I pretend to be educated and well researched about this or anything.

You know what would be the ultimate slap in the face for most all religions?

In most religions, they mention that their God created all that is and all that ever was, earth, the stars, the universe...

What if, when Aliens descended upon the planet, we asked and they had no, nor ever had, any sort of religion what so ever. Wouldn't that be contradictory to what most religions say?

or better yet, they had a religion of their own, something similar to the big snail in the sky theory that Honker (soveliss) previously described.

If god had desceneded upon all planets, wouldnt the religions have been the same?

I like it when people say they dont believe in aliens but they believe in god....

Durrr.... wouldn't that make god be an alien? i mean, he did descend upon the world from the sky eh?

And, im sure he just found some matter on holiday and said "oh, i'll take some of that"

Question / random but i've always wondered.... if the universe is constantly getting bigger, faster every day, then how exactly is there not being any matter created?f you have a set ammount, wouldn't the universe stay the same and just change shape or something? perhaps if grows? i dunno, just wondering.

The universe is getting bigger?, or is it just that we are discovering more of it?

Yes according to the big bang theory the universe is constantly expanding... But space is not matter. star systems consist of matter. The universe is expanding not creating new star systems... At least thats what I think.

Eh, the string theory suggests that the "atoms" that make up space itself are unmoving, thus making them, i'd call them, 0-atoms - where the protons and neutrons dont spin around the nucleus. So technically that'd make them matter too...

anyways, its all theories ;P

Sage, your posts lead me to believe that you treat science as a religion, perhaps in a subconscious way. And like most "blind," as it were, religious people, you strike me as a very blind non-religious person. For you, choosing atheism isn't about knowledge or truth, or discovery, or even science. Your posts here fully lead me to believe that atheism, for you, is about rebellion. You've been molested with the Bible at some point in your life (figuratively, I should hope), and it made you hate it.

And that's all well and good. You're allowed to hate religion just as much as any other person is allowed to love it. But the fact remains that you're still very blind.

First of all, there is no science that disproves the possibility of a god, or gods. Science does not exist for such a reason. If God descended upon the earth tomorrow, any respectable scientist would want to learn as much about him as possible. And any respectable god would share as much about him self as possible.

Matter cannot be created or destroyed? True enough. So far as we know. Obviously nobody is going to be able to win your wager, which was a very clear point that you used to beat upon some poor dead horse. But as any religious nut person will tell you, God exists outside of the realm of known science. You know, mysterious ways and all. That doesn't mean that god in all his glory cannot be looked upon scientifically, should he ever choose to let us do that (if he's there). It just means the one basic truth about the universe:

We don't know squat. Let's, none of us, pretend to. But in the process, let's try to learn everything that we can.

I was raised methodist, with a catholic father (who's now non-religious), a sister who was raised Mormon. I'm known to others as occasionally Jewish (don't ask), and have been agnostic, atheist and nihilist at points in my life. I now practice Shamanism. That's what I believe. So ha.

0-atoms - where the protons and neutrons dont spin around the nucleus.

Well i'm not saying that it cant be but if it is, how many protons and neutrons would there be? And what kind are they? They would have to be a substance lighter than nothingness... Otherwise we wouldnt be able to move through them. That and if the atom has no spin then what keeps it together? Wouldnt it be unstable to even disturb? We're talking about a universal sized Hiroshima( that would be cool to see... Explosions!!! ^_^ ).

For you, choosing atheism isn't about knowledge or truth, or discovery, or even science.

This is probably due to the fact that I subconsciously dont care about knowledge, truth, or discovery... Does that make me ignorant? Yeah I guess so in some ways but it gives me peace-of-mind and mental stabilty.

fully lead me to believe that atheism, for you, is about rebellion. You've been molested with the Bible at some point in your life (figuratively, I should hope), and it made you hate it.

Well I was raised in the church but no i wasnt molested or any such thing like that. I simply began to notice that I have a complete and utter lack of what you would call faith or hope. I cannot believe in a god. It just will not compute in my psyhe. Am I wrong? Well possibly ( its been known to happen before ) but we shall see wont we?

I do not hate religion nor do I have any such personal vendetta against believers. I think that they are wrong to devote so much precious time into praticing it because as far as I can tell religion has done nothing but hinder the human species as a whole. Religion has been the cause of countless battles and even today the world is still pitted against itslef because of it. I dont rebell, I simply wish the rest of the world could see what I see before its too late to do anything about it.

If God descended upon the earth tomorrow, any respectable scientist would want to learn as much about him as possible. And any respectable god would share as much about him self as possible.

I suspect that if God was to show up on earth many scientists wouldnt bother studying it, they would simply be bowing down and kicking themselves in their non-believing arse. And seeing as how God chooses not to show itself nor any trace, sign, or hint that it ever existed shows us that it indeed is not a respectable being...

True scientists would study him. The reason for science is to expand our knowledge base, not to prove religion wrong. However it does, because religion is based on an old knowledge base, and it does change itself as time goes on. But some things in science contradict what some religions believe as fact, and can not change, which makes them quite ignorant at times.

Yet Snail would be even more fun to research!

Our Holy Slimeyness can't create matter Himself, that's why He mixed His bugger with salty water.

Edgarion 1 : 12

When Snail created the earth with His miraculous pee and pepper He wandered around and said out loud "How could the beautiful world be emptey, let me create animals and humans to dance around and makest sweet love to eachother!" Yes, His Slimeyness does aprove sex. He then sniffed really loud and a huge pile of bugger emerged infront of Him. He rushed to the sea and 363 days later Snail returned. On the 364th day He mixed the bugger with the salty water and the first 2 humans appeared. Joe and Moe. A female and a male subject. They made love at the 365th day, also known as 'New Year'. That's why there are 365 days in a year.

In spring Moe gave birth to 43.000 children. Yes, in the times of old you only had to carry your child for 4 months. That's the reason why in the spring the most baby's are born. Suddenly Snail got a headache. Later his head exploded and Edgar came out. Snail said to Edgar "I shalt leave the earth to where the sun shalt always shine. Where rolercoasters shalt be entered without a single minute of waiting. I will see you there Edgar, when thou hast done your duty here." And Snail left.

You know, I think that if I had a time machine, travle back to time, to before the bible was written, and I would write a huge story, people would still believe it now.

or, you know, you'd be stoned to death for being a heretic, which is probably more plausible.

anyway. I guess I believe in god, though I don't believe in the story of adam and eve or any of that crap, considering that it was most likely just a story that'd been created for the sole purpose of explaining humans' existence in a time where they didn't have the power to actually find out for themselves...and over time, it probably just became more regarded as the absolute truth, like with all other religions' creation stories. So...yeah, I guess I just figure that some god had something to do with how the universe was created and had to do with how we evolved and all that into the people we are today.

But really, I could care less what people believe, they could worship a blade of grass for all I care, but I don't really like people who are incredibly religious who try to push their beliefs on others, nor do I like athiests who think everyone should believe what they think, not that much of that matters since we all get caught up in some religious argument from time to time.

How could I be a heretic when there wasn't even a bible? There were no commandments before the bible, because those were first writtin in it.

...because christiantity stemmed out of Judiasim. Before the bible there was the Torah and as it is, it's not as if those were the only religions. there was the roman's gods, the greek gods before them, Allah of the muslims, various celtic religions in the eurpean area and so on and so forth and guess what? all of them hated it when someone else proclaimed a different truth than their own, oh and they all had their own rules just like the commandments of the bible....Christianity is just one religion and a fairly new one at that, in comparison of all the world's other religions. and no offense, but this is really common knowledge. you shouldn't even be saying such things if you don't even have basic knowledge like this.

And why wasn't the one whom created the bible accused as a heretic? Christianity and Judism are quite like fire and water. Look, my point is that the bible was just writting by human hands, just like the Torah and the Koran. And don't get me started about pagan believes, I know a shitload about them. Egytpian, Greek, Norse and a bit about the old Roman believe (But it's the same as the Greek, but with other names).

I must say I've always had more interrest in the old pagan believes of the Greek gods (Hell, I read whole books about their myths and saga's when I was 12/13 years old.) and the Norse gods (Which I find more interresting nowadays). I find them way more intriguing, yet all of them are a bunch of bullcrap. I guess we can all say that now, can't we?. But hey, millions of people used to believed it. And don't say it is because it's all a damn long time ago, because when the vikings were worshipping their gods, there were Christians slaughtering them, burning their vilages and raping their women. By the way, raping is allowed by the Christian god, isn't that jolly nice of Him?
