I would dare claim that, other than the existence of desktop icons, it's not as obvious as you say.

It was because of desktop icons and having Explorer as my shell. And stupid Desktop icons, blegh.

There's no reason you have to get rid of your current monitor. Dual screen setups are quite amazing.

My computer wouldn't fair to well with that.

Nor do I want to spend money on something I'd never have a use for.

Psh, when my laptop was working, I always used dua screens despite not ever using the second screen. It's just awesome.

I always used one screen for browser and media players and the other for IM and chat.

I'm planning to rearrange/redecorate my room next summer after I graduate, and I'm strongly considering getting a projector to replace both my tv and monitor. 70 inch widescreen, ftw.

Good luck using it during the day.

From what I hear, they're usually bright enough to view in a lit room anymore. Still, a thick curtain is also planned as part of the redecoration to block out the sun. My windows face east, so direct sunlight would only be an issue in the morning, and I have my laptop to help get around that.

This will not be an impulse purchase. I don't spend that much money without planning things out first.

Here I am rocking windows 7. I'm enjoying it immensely.

As a note, that's only sorta my desktop. Thanks to some cool things I found on the internets, my computer now downloads the latest 1280x1024 wallpapers from interfacelift.com, and rotates them every two hours. Without installing any extra software. Awesome.

PS, does anyone know what I could download to make the icons smaller, or if there's already a way to do it without downloading anything?

I think my i3 config is finally sorted out ... maybe. I dunno, I'm still kinda playing with it:

(Rather large picture)

But yeah, i3 is the greatest window manager ever, it's like a combination of dwm, fluxbox, and wmii. If anybody's going to play with tiling window managers on linux, try i3 ... it has tabs <3

And new wallypapers since last time:

MonkeyDog you shouldn't feel so awful about your sister's computer. You should see my account on MY sister's computer. It uses Prairie Wind as it's wallpaper. D=

It's a default Windows XP background (And I think a default Windows 2000 background. And a default Windows 98 background.) I always hated it, but in the past few years I've come to sort of appreciate it's simplicity, and when I can't be arsed to find a better wallpaper, I choose that. Uploaded for your viewing pleasure. Sorry for bmp but that's the format it's in and I'm not changing it. It's a small file anyway.
