The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

It was because of desktop icons and having Explorer as my shell. And stupid Desktop icons, blegh.I would dare claim that, other than the existence of desktop icons, it's not as obvious as you say.

My computer wouldn't fair to well with that. There's no reason you have to get rid of your current monitor. Dual screen setups are quite amazing.
Nor do I want to spend money on something I'd never have a use for.

From what I hear, they're usually bright enough to view in a lit room anymore. Still, a thick curtain is also planned as part of the redecoration to block out the sun. My windows face east, so direct sunlight would only be an issue in the morning, and I have my laptop to help get around that.Good luck using it during the day.
This will not be an impulse purchase. I don't spend that much money without planning things out first.

As a note, that's only sorta my desktop. Thanks to some cool things I found on the internets, my computer now downloads the latest 1280x1024 wallpapers from interfacelift.com, and rotates them every two hours. Without installing any extra software. Awesome.

PS, does anyone know what I could download to make the icons smaller, or if there's already a way to do it without downloading anything?

But yeah, i3 is the greatest window manager ever, it's like a combination of dwm, fluxbox, and wmii. If anybody's going to play with tiling window managers on linux, try i3 ... it has tabs <3
