The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Is the media in your country making out that that Batman premier shooter guy's problem was that he played too many computer games? Here it's become a massive thing - "He must have killed all of those people because he played violent RPGs!"

Warren Spector insightfully said that he doesn't care too much about the media blaming games for stupid crap like this because it's just old people being old and that sooner or later they'll all be dead. What a reassuring thought.

My brother and I haven't seen anyone make such a claim over here, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.
All I've seen is that he apparently thinks he's The Joker.

Not the joker. His apparel was apparently more closely related to Bane.
And apparently he lived like thirty blocks from me, and was a graduate of my school?

He's a sociopath, and it sounds like he used this film to make sure he got arrested. He made no resistance to the arrest, right outside the theatre, and willingly told the police that his apartment was booby trapped.
So I have to think, why would someone who just open fired on a crowd and hurt close to 100 people openly tell the Police, who might otherwise enter and kill themselves the apartment is trapped? That suggests that what he seeks isn't carnage. Police examined it to find many trip wires leading to explosives and other strange containers. Apparently it's going to take them some time to safely get through. There was apparently also a 'strange incindiary device' that the bomb squad was completely unfamiliar with. They're currently trying to analyse it.

And why?
It's almost like his goal was to get the authorities into his apartment, so that they could find this device- or something else? Why build things to keep people out, and then invite them in...?

I loved this movie. A lot of people seem to have problems with it, and yeah, the film had flaws, but I dug the hell out of it. I don't know if I would place it above The Dark Knight, and Batman Begins might still be my favorite, but I thought overall this was a good end.

And of course the shooting in Colorado is tragic. I haven't heard the "video games make people violent" thing in a while, though. I thought we were just about past that.

If Batman was there he wouldn't have put up with that shit.

I just don't understand what causes people to do incredibly stupid shit like that. Just why.

Saw it this afternoon. Couldn't understand half of what Bane was saying, but it was pretty great otherwise.

I very much enjoyed this movie. I keep having people ask me if it was better than the second. I really didn't think about it. And of course none seem to care/mention the first. It makes me wonder if people actually appreciate the trilogy as a whole or prefer picking at every little thing.

/>I just don't understand what causes people to do incredibly stupid shit like that. Just why.

I don't understand why people bring their children. There was a couple that brought their 4 month old son and their 4 year old daughter. To a damn midnight showing of Batman. Seriously? Mind you the family was not hurt, but am I wrong to think that they're dumb for even thinking about bringing their kids?

I think it's really selfish to do that kind of thing. It must also suck if you can't get your somebody to babysit your sleeping baby for 3 hours while you slip out to see a moofie.

Also, I don't really consider Batman a proper trilogy as it was never intended to be so. Some trilogies are written from the start with the intention of telling the whole story over three parts. But with these Batman's each time they thought they weren't going to make any more.

I actually prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight. Begins doesn't have the same highs but I think it feels cohesive whereas The Dark Knight sprawls a bit and varies in quality from scene to scene.

Looking forward to watching this very muchly.

To be fair, when I was like 4 I saw Batman Returns, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Batman Forever late at night with my parents. Because I wanted to see them sooo bad (I loved Batman when I was a kid).

So it may not have been entirely selfish, you know.

I don't think four months is old enough to truly appreciate the nuances of Christopher Nolan's masterpiece.

Well I mean, if the parents did it for the 4 year old instead of them selves. (since I assume my sister got dragged around to things really young due to it)

But I guess one of the parents could have stayed home with the 4 month old.

It's not like I don't understand wanting to go see a movie, or wanting to do anything, with or without your child(ren). It just seems wrong to me. The 4 year old I get, but why the 4 month old? Not to mention it's at 12am! You're seriously telling me you had no one to watch/just be there, while your kid sleeps? Or even have you pick him up after the movie had ended?
It just blows my mind.

I don't think I'd be able to enjoy the movie if Rose was there, only because she'd be all over the place.

I'm not big into animation - rather animation of the super hero kind. That looked corny to me. Or is it supposed to be?

Pretty much anything involving a costumed super hero is going to be at least a bit corny. I don't think there's any way to avoid it. =p
