I have high doubts they'll be able to get that momentum going to the finale though.

I did express to VP how disappointed I was that it took 3/4 of the way through this season for me to be excited/involved in an episode.

In other news I am about a quarter way into book 3 and yeah the differences are definitely there.

Also, I don't really get the whole thing with the wildling mother. I just don't understand why they focused on her in particular, have we seen her before? I really don't remember her, if we had.

Though, the second she was like, "I'm right behind you." I was like, "oh, look, you're dead. Pity, you seemed kind of cool." I found it sort of dumb that she didn't even really fight back against those dead kids. Just saying, I get it- she's a mom- but I'm presuming they weren't her kids, and they don't really look like actual children anymore. Hell, one of them was just skin and bones (and mostly the latter) with no eyeballs. :/

 

That said, I didn't dislike the episode entirely and even though I still dislike where Sansa is, I liked her scene with Theon, and it'll be interesting to see what she does. Similarly, despite the changes concerning Tyrion, I enjoyed his and Dany's scenes... Even if I didn't like the last bit with Jorah, but that's mostly because it feels like the writers don't know what they're doing with him, so he's going in circles.

 

All in all, okay episode, but the Hardhome battle seemed like it was trying really hard to emulate every other battle in GoT. It just didn't work for me. I dunno, maybe I was just being impatient and annoyed with GoT in general and the episode (and that battle in particular) doesn't deserve it.

I do like how Jon's sword has the ability to break white walkers into ice cubes, though. That was fun.

My theory with Jorah (Major book spoilers + TV Show speculations):

I think he's going to be munched on or burned by a dragon in one of the coming episodes. Book readers know what is going to happen at the fighting pits. And really, the show writers have already doomed him to die because of the gray scale, so what other purpose could it serve to have him return to fighting?

That's possible, but then what would be the point of giving him grayscale? It seems like a cheap way of building the drama if he's just gonna end up charred dragon food.

That's a good point. Although, the gray scale could simply be an excuse to give him no reason to fear dying, a.k.a. facing down one of Dany's dragons (trying to earn Drogon's favor in an attempt to win Dany back. We know Drogon ain't having it). While it seems relatively certain that we'll get some Drogon in the next episode, everything else right now is pretty much just speculation...

Fair enough, though it would still annoy me. :p Especially seeing as how it's hard to say what role (if any) Jorah will have in The Winds of Winter. It would just be a shame if they killed him off unnecessarily, then had this vacant spot down the road that was awkwardly filled by another character at best. :/

Barristan Selmy is still alive at this point in the books. I wouldn't be surprised if the show runners wanted to completely replace Jorah and Barristan with Tyrion.

But then there's the prophecy warning Dany to not trust the lion, so who knows yet what that even means...

I think the problem with what happened with Stannis is he just told Melisandre an episode or two to fuck off. Stannis is also not the kind of person who would just back track that quickly. Especially because of a minor raiding party. I understand they are in dire straits at the moment. Wasn't he starving and held up in Storm's End for like a year during Robert's Rebellion? Why is it that he changes his decision on a small setback killing one of the only people on earth who means something to him.

 

It's frustrating and it's dumb. It really kills all the affection I had towards Stannis as a character, and probably makes him worse than Ramsay.

I was thankfully Tony muted the TV when this shit happened. I'm really pissed about this. I can't say he's worse than Ramsay, but he's a close mother fucking second. Pardon my swears. As a mother I was furious. And what was Stannis's wife about? She resented her daughter, until she's about to be burned alive?! I'm not sure if I can do this show much longer....

I was really, really hoping that the show would go a little bit further than the last book, if only because we still have no idea when the hell the next book will be released. This season may have been the weakest so far. Here's the hoping that the show chronologically passing the books improves the show next season.

As much has I hate him for what the show did to him last week, I hope Stannis isn't dead. I think him losing the battle of Winterfell makes everything about his story line so useless and weak. At least of he lived there might be some use. And man does Stannis' story suffer from it being rushed.

The more I talk about it the more I make myself sad. This show really fails on a lot of levels nowadays. But at least we had that completely unexpected and awesome battle in half an episode once.

I thought the season as a whole was fine, but the finale was just horrible. Maybe instead of cutting it at 10 episodes they should have made 11. Too much happened which just cut some scenes way too short.
