I just finished up Mad Men season 5. I still haven't figured out just what makes it so fantastic, but it is.

No arguments from me about that.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Horrible Histories

New goal in life: create an American version of this show. Also create a better version of Horrible Histories: Gory Games. It is an awful and incredibly boring game show. Yet it has so much potential to be like those Nickelodeon games from the 90s.

Been rewatching a bunch of movies with commentary lately. Namely the Ocean's trilogy (which Kamau still needs to watch if she hasn't yet) and the two actor commentaries for Scott Pilgrim. I was going to watch Inception with commentary, but it apparently doesn't have such a thing. =(

EDIT: Oh hey, Brave came out today. I'll probably try to go see that sometime next week.

Just watched The Phantom of the Opera. I've seen the beginning several times (my mom loves to show it to people), but this is only the second time I've watched the whole movie.

Sociopath though he may be, one cannot deny that the Phantom has got style.

I saw Brave!

It. was. awesome. =)

Puffin, SHE, and I were debating on whether Disney would consider Merida an official "Disney Princess". It's got the Disney label all over it because Disney scooped up Pixar, but it's also a Pixar-produced film.

To those who already saw it, this video sums up my feelings:

I was just in Disneyland at the beginning of the month and a float during the parade was all princesses, and I am pretty sure Merida was on it.

Every time I see "Merida" written out, I think it's Maridia (Super Metroid).

watching Rocko's Modern Life. im not positive, but i think Ed, Edd, and Eddy re-used the BGM. also, Ed Bighead is Lance Sackless/Officer Pantsoffski/Rear Admiral Floyd/Hives, The Buttler from Cow and Chicken.

On my flight back to the U.S.A. I got to watch a bunch of movies as the flight had OnDemand.

John Carter - If you have not read the book [A Princess of Mars], then the movie is pretty bad and feels like it would have been more at home as a TV movie on the SyFy channel. If you have read the book, it is god awful and does a horrible job at representing the book. About the only thing it stayed true to was the names of characters. Otherwise all the characters behaved differently, did different things, different plot, different conflict, different timeline, different tone, and all these different approaches did NOT make it better.

Real Steel - Fantastic movie. Everything I wanted from a movie about robots boxing. A sports movie even geeks can love.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Slow movie that I fell asleep for about 30 minutes while watching. Really the only thing you needed to see from it was the last 10 minutes, then you'd be up-to-date on Wolverine in the other movies. Heard Deadpool was in it and he...kind of was, but they didn't have him talk. A character that is all about talking had his mouth sealed shut [literally].

Clash of the Titans - Movie that could have worked but fell apart. It did have the confusing structure of Greek myths, but it was not nearly as entertaining at the original myths.

saw Child's Play 2. it was pretty stupid, since nobody in the 80's can fight off a two foot tall doll. but Chucky had great dialogue.

Watched Groundhog Day the other day, and saw Moonrise Kingdom yesterday. I'm on a Bill Murray roll.

Moonrise Kingdom was very good. I enjoyed it a lot. Bee said she didn't like the children acting, it was too awkward...but they acted like characters in a Wes Anderson movie so I don't really understand what she was expecting from them.
