Have you heard? Are you excited? A look at the English Civ was released today and oh boy does this game look good:
Looks like archeology, and thus tourism, are still a part of the game. This is a good thing in my opinion. I never got too much into the late game politicking but on the few playthroughs where I did, I found it quite fun!
If you haven't seen what districts are, they're a new feature in cities that sort of remind me of France's Chateaus in Civ V--except they do more than just that one thing. I think this is what excites me the most about the new game, since in real life cities sprawl, so why shouldn't they in Civ? Plus it gives us something to do with plains tiles other than putting yet another farm on them. The dockyard one gives a good example of how districts can be used, and only serves to make me wonder what other types of districts will be available.
When the game was first announced a lot of people, myself included, thought the graphical style was a huge step back, making the game look like it should be on a phone rather than a PC, but I've since come around to it. I still wish it weren't so over saturated, but I still think it looks pretty good, and that fog of war effect is to die for!
This video outlines a lot of the new mechanics, though it's kind of confusing because it jumps through time a lot. You can see how builders make farms and stuff instantly, and roads are created with trade routes rather than workers.
