On a radio show called Week Geekly I submitted the question "Who is the best robot?" And oh my god I loved the responses they had on the air! They just kept thinking of so many robots and couldn't figure out how to choose just one. Eventually they said they had to move on, but not before one of them voiced wanting to do brackets for robots to come to a decision. I agree 100% with the idea and now I want to follow through on it. They brought up so many robots I didn't think of initially that I know I cannot do this on my own. So I turn to you guys to help me amass a list of the best robots ever!

Post the best robots you can think of and I will create a running list in this post.

Does HAL-9000 (Space Odyssey) count?

I would say yes for two reasons. First, while HAL is mostly an AI, it does control robotics and machinery on the ship. Second, it is in the robot hall of fame so...

Sonny and VIKI (I Robot)

There is a robot hall of fame? Nice. I've always been fascinated by robots and that's partially why there's the metal in the ice/fire/metal themes.

Aya (Green Lantern: The Animated Series)
Arcee (specifically the Transformers Prime version)

Literally any Dalek (Dr. Who)

I mean, seriously. Just listen to these guys.

Also, WHERE THE FUCK IS AM (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream). He may have been an AI, but he was an AI who was basically God. He could create robotic life at will, alter non-robotic life at will, and control the entire complex he existed inside at will. Also the entire planet, because he was basically everything and everywhere.

Also, kind of a homicidal, hate-filled bastard. The sort that puts literally every other contender for "evil machine" to shame. Even Skynet acted out of survival. GLaDOS is evil because she wants to study things and has no grasp of ethics. AM just hates you on every conceivable level.

Roy Batty (from Blade Runner)

An argument can be made for Deckard. And Rachael certainly belongs on that list.

Also, I see Data was already mentioned. I would make an argument for Lal, his daughter. She developed on her own the emotions Data wanted all along (the otherwise useless Counselor Troi could even sense them). Sadly, her positronic brain couldn't handle it and she overloaded and died.

And while we're including Star Trek characters, The Doctor, Voyager's EMH-1. He became more than his programming and made a case for photonic life. Also, he was usually the only interesting character on that train wreck of a show.

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Depends. We're apparently counting AI's, but mechs may be another matter since they're (usually) not characters in and of themselves.
