I watched this the other day, and I just could not enjoy it. Guy spends a whole day on a train so he can visit girl for 1 night, and then just leaves. Buddy, if you're going to spend the rest of your life all depressed because of the girl, you should at least try to go be with her ... she's not that far away >.>. And then part 2 seemed a bit non-sequitor. I dunno~ [/color] Care to share what was so awesome about it that I apparently missed?

It also gives an outsider perspective on the relationship between the two main characters, Takaaki and Akari. It's not that Takaaki too lazy or scared or anything of that sort to visit her, it's that they are too far to see each other. The part at the train station is one of the last times that they are capable of reaching each other by train; he's too young/probably not enough money to travel any further. Even meeting at that train station was a pretty big jump for both of them. The third part just shows the end result of all the factors that split them apart, including time and distance. Somehow they drifted apart from each other to the point where they don't even write letters (which I think is one part that the movie should have explained better), but Takaaki still hasn't let go of the past (while Akari has), as evidenced in the railroad sequence at the end. The film shows a bittersweet, very realistic scenario of a relationship that couldn't conquer space-time. [/color]

And to add to what I felt was an awesome plot, I think the music, animation, and VA's are all superb :D
