[Puffin]

So, this Tuesday I'm going to have to start my animation final, which is to make a short animation centered around a character who wants something and then has to face a series of obstacles as everything just decides to get in their way of obtaining said thing. Sounds simple right? It should be. But it seems that when I'm put on a deadline of any kind, my mind just goes blank and can't come up with a thing.

One idea I could handle and force myself to come up with somethin', but we have to come up with three story ideas. These ideas will then be read to the class and then the class has to vote on which one we actually do. So, I really don't want to come up with a bunch of mediocre crap, since, well, I have a bit of an ego.

 

 

So, I was hoping you guys could throw in some fun suggestions. I really just need something to jump start my brain, so I'm not looking for you guys to go ahead and write the story for me. Just a few key ideas that might make my imagination wake up and go 'oohh, that'd be cool, and then this, this and that could happen!'

 

 

My first inclination was a boy wants to get the girl (or visa versa) kind of story, but I'm having second thoughts on that one, since I don't really know how to expand on that idea and it is sort of the 'duh' choice in story lines. I may still have it as one of the ideas, but I don't think *every* one of them should be like that.

 

I've already decided on a few things, that I'd like it be in a fantasy setting, mainly because as far as characters go, I'm going to use someone from either the RP or Arcane since it'd be more fun to animate them than a random character I design just for this project. I'll probably choose which character exactly based on the idea, rather than choosing a character first then come up with an idea that fits them. Granted, it doesn't have to be fantasy or it certainly doesn't have to be your atypical fantasy (T-rex bursting in on a royal ball? Totally cool).

A Tejet student wants to ace some kind of test/contest with a prize for the top score, but whenever they try to prepare for it, stuff keeps happening to interrupt them (other characters distract them, the academy is attacked, Carson accidentally summoned a zombie t-rex into the girls' dormitory, etc.).

I think the funniest thing about that idea is that Carson would be an obstacle. XD

What if you spend most of it making it appear as though the boy wants the girl, but he really just wants a toy or trinket or something that she has, therefore making the girl one of the obstacles in his way?

One character is trying to play a masterful prank on another (Tinge and Aikichi perhaps?), but things keep going terribly wrong for the prankster, Wile E. Coyote style. Or the target character might see through most of them and cause them to backfire. Or the wrong person keeps getting caught by the prank attempts.

I like the idea of the wrong person getting caught. XD (Especially if it was a prank "war" between Tinge and Luna...) 

Similarly, purposely getting caught so they don't suspect the real prank coming up. Haha.

 

P.S. I like VP's idea. It reminds me of those new Pepsi commercials.

The prankster idea isn't quite working for me. I think it's because I myself am a horrible, horrible prankster and lack any imagination for it (which is why I'm just Kamau's lackey in pranks, rather than the mastermind).

 

I like Tony's idea, though, and had been milling around with a similar idea.

So, I basically took VP's idea and mixed it with my own. I made the boy a royal guard who has to chase after an errant Princess and bring her back home because, well, she's most likely going to do something stupid- but the girl purposefully gets further and further out of his reach cuz she's a dick like that. Essentially, I just removed any romantic angle from my original idea and decided to make the girl herself the key obstacle.

 

This and the zombie t-rex idea were tied in the class. So, I was told to choose which one I liked better and in the end, after discussing with the rest of the class how much work would have to go into both, I chose the guard/princess story. Cuz, while the t-rex one would be a lot of fun, it would require a lot of animating of background stuff (lots of people, walls and objects getting destroyed, and then the t-rex itself which would be tricky). The guard/princess story, though, also leaves more room to have the characters emote and a variety of levels, which I preferred over the constant chaos and panic that the t-rex story would probably be. (although I really want to do the t-rex one, so maybe one day!)

The third idea, which was a zelda-inspired idea Stars IMed me, was sadly unpopular. XD

Oh man, I wish I would have read this in time to help. Ah well. This may seem like a stupid question, but it's been bothering me forever and I just never felt appropriate to ask, but what is Arcane? And "the RP" you talk about so much? Am I stupid for not knowing this?

Arcane is the series that Puffin and I are co-writing. The RP is the story that Puffin and SHE do together. =)

Arcane we've explained (vaguely and briefly, usually) before, but I dunno that I've ever really mentioned what the RP is before, so you're not dumb for not knowing. :P

Soo... I finished my animation final! I both like and hate it. I like it cuz I actually finished it, I hate it cuz I still think I could have done better, but it's also the first real animation I've ever done, sooo... I guess it's okay all in all?

 

It has music (which now that it's been uploaded, no longer syncs with the animation the way it was supposed to ragrhghjk), and there's no play button- it'll start automatically (we had to work in actionscript 3.0, which apparently doesn't allow you to put actions on individual objects, and I couldn't figure out how to do a play button otherwise- nor was it required project-wise, I just thought that would be less annoying, hence why I gave up easily).

 

I 'unno. Anyways, here it is.

The music synched up around the fourth or fifth time through, once my connection stopped making the video lag.

 

In case it wasn't obvious by the fact that I watched it four or five times in a row, I quite enjoyed it. =p

I can easily point out what I did wrong, so at least I was able to learn quite a bit from this and hopefully I can improve on this stuff in the future.
