Recommend People Games

I'll start by recommending that Vicious Parker play Anno 1404 on the basis that I vaguely remember him talking fondly of Civ IV/V and pondering why there weren't more games like this.
I really enjoy Anno 1404, but as is the same with most of these games the simulation gets to a certain degree of complexity and my head explodes and my economy collapses and all my happy little peasant people die. Which is not a happy scenario. But up until that point I always have a jolly good time. I think the new futuristic Anno is also meant to be good, but I haven't gotten round to playing it yet.
What other games do you think other users would enjoy?

Kung Fu and River City Ransom are a lot of fun if you have an nes lying around. roms don't compare a lot of the time. Grandia 3 on ps2 is pretty sweet too. also:
Pokemon Pinball
Buck Bumble
Sega Bass Fishing (for some reason)
WWF No Mercy
Boogerman
Bubba n Stix
Flower
Big Brain Academy Wii Degree
From Dust
Capcom Puzzle Fighter
The Ooze
Any of the Army Men games on N64

Anyone who enjoys Zelda-type stuff and has a Wii or PS2 ought to give Okami a try.
Any of the Worms games are worth a try. I haven't tried most of the recent iterations, but they generally seem pretty similar to Worms Armageddon (PC), which I can certainly vouch for as a great game.
Anything by Vanillaware is worth playing for the visuals alone. Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire for PS2 (both downloadable for PS3) and Muramasa for the Wii were all fun and really nice to look at.

I've been meaning to play Terraria but I was a little put off by all the 2D Minecraft comparisons. Not sure why./>The Binding of Isaac
and
Terraria
The Binding of Isaac looks like the perfect game for me to settle into right now. Do you recommend I play it with a gamepad? Because I left my gamepads in Britannia and have been thinking of picking up one while I'm on my travels.

Terraria is great if you like Minecraft and Metroidvania style games. It has elements of Minecraft, but unlike Minecraft, there are things to collect and do. It's much more of an adventure game with sandbox elements than a sandbox game with adventure elements (Minecraft).

I need some recommendations. I've been finding most things I play to be a little too involved (looking at Civ V mostly). I played FTL a bit again and that was about the right level for what I'm looking at.
To be more specific, I'm really enjoying games that are gauntlets. The idea is to be able to start a game and complete it in one sitting, where the fun is in replaying it and trying different strategies and unlocking stuffs. Multiplayer would be a bonus.

What Monkey said. The Binding of Isaac pretty much exactly fits what you are looking for.

I have it and have played a bit of it. It's neat, but for some reason I couldn't get the hang of it. My recent return to the depths of Civ 5 have been making me want to pick it up again for another go, though.

I just ordered a gamepad for my computer. I need recommendations for games that are best with a gamepad. Omg.... I just realized... It's time to revisit Zelda. My old friend. ![]()
We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Super Meat Boy is good fun with a controller if you're looking for an insanely precise platformer.

"Games that are best with a gamepad," is a but relative. Most 2D platformers are, and 3D racers, but most games will just come down to preference.
Ooooh, I know! Play Dark Souls! It's awesome, and pretty much requires a game pad. Not because it makes it better, but rather because the PC port was rushed and the mouse and keyboard controls are pretty terrible (and can't be changed).

I'd also recommend Bastion for gamepad playing. It's like a less grindy, nerdy and generally off-putting version of Diablo in terms of gameplay. The best thing about it though is how the story is told, it's full of class and style and has awesome narration.
Braid is a puzzle-platformer that has mind-bending time distortion effects. I recommend this too.

I'll recommend one (almost) everyone here already has
Left 4 Dead 2 it's great for multi-player, I imagine using a controller would make it much easier as well.
Edit: why my GIF no work?

I'm not a fan of L4D2. Tried it on computer, and consoles... it doesn't do anything for me.
I'm going to recommend Saints Row IV for anybody who wants to just have loose crazy fun that requires you to turn your brain off. 5 hours in, and I've punched a dickhead in the nuts, cured cancer, jumped across the city of Steelport in what could be described as a few bounds, and frozen my enemies in the wake of destruction.
Also, I am killing enemies with dubstep.

Dark Souls seconded, enormous and difficult with a huge learning curve.
Just Cause 2 is like Spiderman with guns in a tropical paradise.
King of the monsters is a fun old game that you need a gamepad for.
