I haven't caught up with season 4 yet (bad ame!) but I did just watch the equestria girls movie last night after I remembered it existed and I was also really surprised at how decent it was

I think at this point we all just have to settle down and trust the writers.

Season 4 has been pretty excellent so far. Pinkie Pie's episodes have been particularly great. I've also noticed that my opinion of Applejack has been improving since season 3 and even moreso in this season. And there have been a lot of songs so far, which is always welcome.

When I saw that, before watching the episode, my only thought was "whelp. This is it. I'm done. I'm just done."

 

Though I gotta admit I actually really loved this episode. It's just really funny, well done, and the lesson didn't feel forced or stupid. Like, seriously, I didn't expect to like an episode that included Pinkie Pie rapping this much.

 

Edit: Also, at 4:06 Twilight shows off her ventriloquy skills.

Looks like they're really trying to make Equestria Girls more of a thing. After the sequel film (Rainbow Rocks) comes out in September, there's a spin-off series (Equestria Academy) premiering in November. Season 5 of the main series doesn't premier until sometime in 2015. =(

So I haven't seen the new movie yet, but from what I hear, it's apparently much better than the first film. And it assumes you're already a fan of the show, so it doesn't make you sit through character re-introductions.

And despite the brief mention of a native human Twilight in the first movie, they contrive a way for pony Twilight to travel back to the human world instead of using her alternate self.
